May I ask you which factor the voltage depends on? The more the rotation speed, the higher the voltage? Can one replace the jars with modern capacitors, how about the capacity of the capacitors (say 50μF/500 V) or so. What if one adds a second pair of brushes? More electrons then captured, the higher the voltage? (Just for the theory).
The voltage, in fact, does not depends of the rotational speed. The total charge and as a consequence the current changes with the rotational speed, by the voltage is limited basically by the looses (corona).
Yes, you can change the jars by modern capacitor, but where is the nostalgy?;-) but they need to have enough insulation (at least 35.000 volts otherwise they will became perfurated. Another brushes do not change anything, even a single point can be used to capture all availab. charge.
Your brushes are too thick and heavy. It looks like you are scratching your discs and sectors. All that is needed is very fine wire, or very fine strips of aluminum foil. Just a tip.
Thank you very much for your comment. In fact the brushes are made from a conductive plastic used for ESD, so they are very flexible and made no risks on sectors, The risks you saw were made by the first brushes mabe with fine wires. regards
did u buy it? cuz ur wimshurst machine is professional-looking

No I don´t. I´m physics professor and my hobby is to reproduce ancient machines using modern materials.

Very nice work.

thanks. In fact there is no problem with the ones I´m using, they are not affecting the disks, and are very resistant. Thank you anyway.

Sim, só de um lado, e o resultado, até aonde medí, é o mesmo que se houvesse coletado carga nos dois!

Legal. Funciona muito bem, e ficou bonita. Os coletores de carga ficam só de um lado da máquina?
