You obviously don't take that into account, when you say that guitar hero ain't a challenge..

Anyways I don't wanna argue this game against guitar hero, since they're two different games, but guitar hero is a challenge, unless you've beaten all of the songs FC..?

Guitar hero has 5 buttons and a tab to strum. This is a 4x4 square that requires you to press the smaller squares. 16 buttons bro. Doubles on DDR is half that. IIDX is 7 and a turntable. Pop'n music is 9.

You'd think that makes it a lot harder but it really doesn't; the buttons can only bit a maximum of about 2 times a second because of the length of the animations (remember on all the other games the fall down/move up and can have more than one falling for the same note at close intervals)... Jubeat really isn't all that hard... It's just sometimes a bit fiddly

That's part of the secret about all those types of games

BUT i can't say (and i believe neither can you) that Jubeat "really isn't all that hard..."

Just to pay attention to 16 squares at such a high speed isn't possible unless you trained A LOT. As for comparing with guitar hero, Jubeat IS harder for me

The reason I say Jubeat is not hard is simple. After about 100 plays I was able to pass all songs every time. After 1-200 plays I still can't pass anything above a level 8 of IIDX, for example (and songs go up to 12)... The same goes for Guitar Freaks, Pop'n'music, Drum Mania etc...

I'd say most who've played Japanese music games knows that GH is a joke (except TTFATF ofc lol)

Ive visited philippines to see cousins and ive played many japanese games, even found some luckily in US. I can say ive mastered Beatmania and Some of guitar freak, yet everything else i dont have the skill for lol

@Anjo606 Jubeat, in my opinion, is (and I'm sure I've said this in another reply somehwhere) one of the easiest Bemani games there is; the timing is almost as loose as Guitar Hero. If you have a jailbroken iPhone/iPad please feel free to try out the open beta I'm running of iBoogie; it's an iPhone [port/sim/copy/whatever you wanna call it] of Jubeat which is finally coming along rather nicely

I pick up music games fairly easy, and I love music games as well. So I would love to try this out at some point. Along with IIDX and Pop'n (since there are no machines near me). Something me and my buddies found out from evans:

although the patterns may appear confusing, notice that during the hard parts, the corners opposite each other always appear at the same time. For example, Top left and Bottom right always appear at the same time. I'll be checking this vid comments and others to advice those who want to try to get an S for this song.

Oh and btw, my highscore is now 950,188.

What really got to me is the last part as the notes really went haywire.

And the other reason for almost getting full combo but still getting low scores is because of the many blue scores and little yellow. every 3 Yellow im sure to get a Blue.. Which is very sad.

Well, looks like Evans has a combination of many song's unique pattern

eg. 0:36-0:56 looks similar to PLAY THE GAME's pattern

1:01-1:04 True Love's pattern

1:04-1:10 Slang's sliding

1:11-1:33 Bass2Bass, FREE FREE, Crosswind altogether, master these 3 and clearing the first part will be easier

1:36-1:44 IN THE NAME OF LOVE's confusing patterns

1:44 onwards is Evans' very own unique pattern as u can see Y.S-Y having a hard time here as well as 1:27-1:28

Well I must say how incredibly lucky you are to at least be able to play this game, let alone with a tatsujin-level player.

I live up in WA state where arcade gaming is practicaly dead. Our only saving grace here is Seattle Gameworks, which thank god, actually has a Pop'n Fever machine (Along with SF4 and Initial D 4. But that's it.)

What I would do to play this game... I really wish I were in California, at least the arcade scene there is still thriving.

It took me a looooong time to get it to a point where I could pass every time (months, if you include the time I was out of the country)

Today I was playing with II-L and was watching him play Evans and Crosswind -- he's absolutely fantastic at it...

He spent about an hour explaining a lot of the songs to me, too, which was incredibly kind of him...

Now he's looking at the screen wondering what I'm writing about him too haha

I recommend learning most of it...

This game looks like it could be a lot of fun, but since there is no field for notes to travel like the other bemani games, you pretty much *have* to memorize the patterns for the harder difficulties. Memorization was better left for school work and I've always preferred just getting better at sight reading.

Still hoping for an import but I can only imagine how difficult this can get when getting really good at it means you know where to move your hands ahead of time...

Assuming the icons just suddenly appear as soon as you have to hit them that would be true, but it does give you about a second's warning before you do.

When the new level 10s came out it wasn't hard to get a decent pass first time assuming you'd played the game a decent amount; after a while you are able to read the way they appear.

Also don't you think that the players who are good at other music games probably have to practice specific finger movements in order to be able to hit notes?

I didn't play this game but didn't seem to be very very hard as Pump or DDR are.

I don`t think there`s much difference; DDR has never really been hard for me, but that`s just a personal thing.

Jubeat is easy for new players, but it`s hard to get perfect timing on every hit on every song since the hard songs have notes which have timings that are slightly off-rhythm, so perfecting the songs is harder compared to DDR etc.

It is definitely easier than other music games such as Beat Mania, Guitar Freaks, Pop`n`Music, though...

Unfortunately it`s not. I had a 3 week holiday in LA about a month ago and I was desperately looking to see if the location tests were still around, but they haven`t released it yet. If Konami does choose to release it in the US (which doesn`t seem overly likely due to the fact that American Game Centers are soon to disappear entirely) don`t expect the release to be much before Christmas...

In order to get the perfects within only a few tries... well I have played the game 850+ times and I already got very good on Extreme... Then one day (about a month ago) I decided to go back through Basic mode and it all just worked.

I use the green bar markers (the gauge that moves up) which I personally find the best for timing...

Yes I do. I am driven by high scores, and I think that`s what separates Japanese gamers from foreign gamers in a way. Japanese are very much concerned about their high scores and their averages, whereas westerners on the whole don`t seem to be... That is why I don`t get bored playing the same songs over and over.

Target for Evans is a Full combo, and an Average score of 980,000... 975606 is my current average. Getting Evans to a full combo will sort out about 1000 of those average score points

I do prefer it this way, though, because Evans looks so impressive from the side and the top-down view doesn't need to be any bigger than it is in this video, imo

The Class Point Ranking has nothing to do with ability to play the game. You get points for each time you play the game & it goes into that. The score that really matters is the Average. SK-H04 and Y.S are the main competitors. Y.S only has Evans & Crosswind remaining without Excellents.

SigSig is fantastic! I love that song too. It actually has more hits than Evans! (Evans Full Combo 805; SigSig is 824) However on SigSig I can nearly get a full Combo, whereas Evans I still occasionally fail...

Yes Y.S-Y is in the top 3 in the world. He was first to perfect every song on Jubeat until the new songs came out. It's now a waiting game to see who gets the Excellent on Evans first... Currently SK.H04-Y is the highest scoring with around 20 hits that are slightly off time.

Y.S is amazing. I play Jubeat with him nearly every day and he's helped me get my score up on a lot of songs that are hard to time. He's a really, really cool guy.

...He also likes Yaki-niku a bit too much haha
