Pharaoh could have easily freed the Hebrews, with a single word, yet god chose Moses, why? Slavery was a common thing back then. God knew it was wrong and hated it but allowed and regulated it. See Deuteronomy 23:15, Leviticus 25:14 as examples. The same god allowed divorce tho he hates divorce. Why because battles produced slaves which later became Jews and married in and were given freedom after a time and weren't super mistreated. Just as he knew people where unforgiving to one another so he also allowed divorce.

@j919or I can demonstrate the racist nature of the character YHWH using only one biblical event. YHWH chose to use Moses as an instrument to free the Hebrew slaves rather than Pharaoh. Pharaoh could have easily freed the Hebrews, with a single word, yet god chose Moses, why? Certainly YHWH being all knowing knew exactly what would have changed his heart and set him to freeing the slaves. Historically Egyptians constantly changed their gods so accepting YHWH would not have been difficult.

YHWH favoured one race over another, thinking one to be superior by birth over the other. Could it have been because of the covenant with Abraham? That only begs the question of "Why couldn't YHWH make a covenant with the Egyptians?" The Hebrews weren't exactly known for their devotion to YHWH.

He did so in such a manner that one of them asks if he is going to be killed like the Egyptian. Moses also stopped the shepherds from rousting Jethro's daughters. It could be Moses simply didn't tolerate such behaviour.

The only difference is he's more lenient about punishment (the one without sin throwing the first stone, etc). So it would be better to stop eating pork/shrimps if you believe.

I always thought that seemed as if, YHWH was now all about how only he can dish out vengeance, which makes him more lenient in that he no longer wants any humans (b/c all humans are supposedly sinful) to murder in his name, but he still has no problem killing/hurting people his own self since he can't be with sin (since sin is "that which is against YHWH").

Have you read the Q'uran? I haven't, but I've been told this: the Bible has more violence overall, but the Q'uran has more per page.
Also, the New Testament does condemn homosexuality, and Jesus references the Commandments, so the O.T. does not hold a monopoly on these things.
But your point is well taken, that Christians tend to side-step around the O.T. instead of owning it.

Slavery was a common thing back then. God knew it was wrong and hated it but allowed and regulated it. See Deuteronomy 23:15, Leviticus 25:14 as examples. The same god allowed divorce tho he hates divorce. Why because battles produced slaves which later became Jews and married in and were given freedom after a time and weren't super mistreated. Just as he knew people where unforgiving to one another so he also allowed divorce.
