Notice how the Rubber Soul on the album cover is kind of a gold color.I had just assumed this was the color of the original album but the words Rubber Soul on the original were actually in red.I wonder why the color was changed. The latest C.D. the one remastered in 2009 has the words in red.
But, I really really like this song. Even when I was a little kid in the early 1990s and heard it when my dad would play his Beatles records, I liked it.
I told her I wasn't and crawled up to sleep in the bath. One of the best lines in any song ever, along with the likes of 'What are you doing, singing up at people like that?' (Police: Romeo and Juliet)
By far one of my favorite Beatles songs. These guys are fxcking legendary. I never thought they were overrated. They deserve all the attention they get. This music changes lives and it surely changed mine. This music will survive for generations to come.
The Beatles themselves were like other men, but the music and lyrics channeled through them contained magic and messages from beyond the mind. To learn how to perceive these hidden meanings, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read through the section about The Beatles.
@ForresterJambo Are you so sure? Perhaps more a story that brings two people together for a moment. Where the man, perhaps without rhyme or reason, rejects her invitation to bed. Since it's all happening in the moment and nothing is for sure. (And also, according to John, the lyrics were a clever way of disguising several of his affairs. So maybe one affair is rejected for another?) And so. maybe lighting a fire is a metaphor for how each moment must end, as a burning fire does over time?
Elvis was great, but the Fab Four changed the world in so many ways that E. never could have. I am very privileged to have lived all my teen years in the 60's.
Only just "got" The Beatles after 21 years of listening to music. LedZep still are the greatest band ever but The Beatles are awesome. The Stones? Meh. Give it 21 years
thats so funny these were the first Beatles songs ever I listened to, when I was really small, I made a tape of them from radio and I know them all by heart, its so nice to see them :)
@Cmrutter1 actually a close family friend inspired this song. She dated Paul mcartney and she had work in the morning so she told him to go sleep in the bathtub so she could sleep in her own bed and wake up for work inthe morning. :)
stop calling the beatles the best band in the world because they are not...there are too many genres of music to make a decision like that...just enjoy all bands from all genres and stop putting labels on bands
You know, sometimes life gets so busy with everyday stuff. It's the little moments like right now, that I remember who I am. A Beatles Fan! That is the best thing to be!
@Donutboy4080 Lied about what? What the hell are you talking about? Comments about people clicking dislike are meaningless, and saying they clicked it cause they're stupid is a lie unto itself. Just cause the Beatles are good doesn't mean people gotta like em. Stop being a dumbass.
@Donutboy4080 I dunno, people who keep making these lame ass comments about the thumbs down fail pretty badly, every single time. You should stop. The world would be a better place, if you stopped.
This music is the best of a Civilization. It is like all the good fruits of Western Civilization like Beethoven and the motor Car. I live in one of the far flung provinces of the Civilization, America now with our Furer. Yet Long live the Civilization.
Let us write again a pooem and sing. let us again hear the mountains ring with our Echo.
@lordgreystuff compare this with paint it black... the Beatles are far away from the Stones just give me one Stone song who have the quality of while my guitar gently weeps IMPOSSIBLE!!!

@slaynt ...ha, that's funny; was wondering too. I always thought it says she was gone, he was alone, so 'He lit a fire' 'cause he was frigging cold. (He's in the Norwegian Woods)
Abbey Road is my personal favorite. historically speaking, however, that album along with about a million others would never have even existed if not for the genius of Sgt Pepper
@royalnash be sgt pepper was so radically different at the time. hell i know i wasnt around that time but i tell you as i child it blew my mind but now im older i love rubber soul
ya got da beetles tellin' folks OK, you get mad, get even, light a fire. Ya got the Beetles complaining about "the tax man." Then, folks scratch their heads or go ballistic when a guy flies his plane into the IRS after things don't go his way. Music and elections have consequences. I can say w/o malice, grew up in Beatles era.
there are some misinterpretations about the story behind this song. a lot of people think its about a lesbian, but its actually about john lennon having an affair.
@bladesmark1 i think we can't really say how different thing would have been without either of them. lets just be happy that elvis and the beatles both did happen :)
@PrimalStones It's impossible to truly state which band is the best. Everybody will have a different band who they think is the best. Well stated and this song in particular has reverberated through my mind for the last 30 years.
And the best part is just when you think you've remembered all their great songs--the entire catalog
up until 1970 sneaks up on you and you just shake your head -- how did they write and play all this??
And all songs were true originals! They were the best of humanity ... gives you hope!
