@nosillaq thanks! Check out my recent blog last month on formulas for visors, earflaps & crowns. It will give you help to make the visor on any round loom. Then make the garter ridge a few times for a brim and knit in any stitch you like after till the desired length just three rows shy, then add the decreased crown. Happy Looming!
Hello! I'm making a hat for my father on my new loom, and I was wondering, as it's hard to tell since I'm new to the round looms, how long should I make the hat before I start doing the decrease? I have tried holding up to my head to see if it would be long enough, but that seems a less accurate method, so I thought I'd ask someone who's been doing this longer than I have! Also, thank you for posting this video! I much prefer the look of the decreased hats to the way the hats are normally done.
@x2corgibeaglemom sorry such a late response. I hadn't recorded the blog just yet due to scheduling. It's something on my list but will be after the holidays but it's the first thing. This is what you'd call an extreme hobby as I have a full time job elsewhere. :-)
@adventuregal2003 thanks! See my reply to @CraftingGrannies in the comments but it's just something I crocheted and made up a simple chain and curled up. :-)
@peace8love8joy It depends on your yarn, gauge and stitch for measurement. But usually I start decreasing about 3-4 rows shy of what would give me my desired length. Your decrease can also happen more gradually by adding an extra row of knitting between the decreased rows. So if you find you need more length just add a row of knitting. This also is how I achieve an elf hat with a gradual decrease and even keep transferring to smaller looms (or a ling loom with loom clip) and decrease more. I ho
Hey Kristen! How r u? Yay!!!! Believe it or not I finished off a hat with this tutorial, for my dog.! I love it it. It is sooo cute! I made another one using the usual method to draw in the top. It is really cute too. but tooo much room at the top. I really like this method of flattening the top! Thanks for showing us this way. Your are awesome. Thx :)
@craftymom7 Haahaha!! That is so funny...and cool! Glad it works for your dog...um If you have a webcam that would totally rock if you posted a video response of your dog in the hat. I REALLY wanna see this in action! heehee. love it. Glad they will be warm this winter. Happy Looming MissCrafty! -Kristen
@xcha5476 I'll be talking about this soon in a blog but for now just divide it into sections of 6. The last section have 8 in it and when you move the 6 to the 5 just move the 8 to the 7 at that time. I hope that helps! -Kristen
@GoodKnitKisses I really like your decreasing tutorial. You mentioned you will be discussing 38 peg loom on a blog. What blog and how do I access it ?
Hi I've recently learned how to knit and now I want to loom knit and I'm 11 years old and I was wondering how many rows would I be wanting to do for a hat?
@core17 I have a video separate for people who want to see that. People seriously search for that. Here is the title. Finish and Weave in drawstring of hat YouTube won't let me reply with a link so you'll have to look through my main channel and search for this title.
I'm knitting on the new Martha Stewart knitting loom (I should have researched more before I purchased it because it's not very beginner user friendly and the book isn't informative AT ALL). I am knitting on a 34 peg loom. How might I decrease that....or is it possible to do it without it looking horrible??? Help!!!
@firejunkiewife I'm so glad you wrote me. I got mine last week and I'm working on the adult hat size loom they say in the book but it's more like a 52 peg loom and way big! I haven't casted off yet but waiting to finish. What did you do to get the 34 pegs? I didn't see that written. Yes, I'll be making videos. Sorry you've had so much trouble. Let's fix this :-) -Kristen
@firejunkiewife If anything it should be easier on the Martha loom (which I have also purchased) since you should be able to move your project to a different loom. There's a blog somewhere where the girl simply placed the two half circles over each other, facing together, creating a smaller circle in the middle. Of course that way there isn't anything holding the loom together but the pegs and your project should still be pretty sturdy.
Do you plan on making a decrease video for the knifty knitter purple loom? (48 peg). If not can you tell me how many decrease rows I should do into how many sections? Thanks!
@c2creviewvids Yes I will be doing one soon. I'm editing 4 more videos tonight and will be filming that nest. You can divide into 8 sections of 6. You will be left with 24 pegs. You can weave in a contrasting scrap yarn and transfer to the 24 peg loom them if you like. This will make a flatter top and add length though so be careful. You can just finish as usual but don't feel like you have to transfer. If unsure, try it and just frog back if you don't like the look. Thanks! -Kristen
@CraftingGrannies Caroline I crocheted it. In fact I just sort of made it up! Its just a simple chin and then a row of single crochet and then double...i think. Really I was playing around with it and somehow I decreased to get it to curl and then I just rolled it up and sewed it shut. After I just sewed it on. not sure that helps but I was just creating and not documenting as I went.
@LittleMissJennifer84 Thanks! It's pretty simple but requires some planning. You'll want to count out a third of your pegs for whatever loom size you are using. start in a flat panel and crochet cast on. Then do a garter ridge pattern. then increase by one on each side and continue in the garter ridge pattern (1 row purl & 1 row knit) until you reach half of your pegs are full. Continue in the round in the garter ridge pattern until you have about an 1" for the main hat brim. finish main hat!
It is now midnite, and I've just discovered your video as I was coming to binding off a hat made on a loom. This is my first endeavor with a loom. I am a machine knitter, but had such a discount for a set of Jiffy looms, that I felt if I did not enjoy it, I had not loss a great deal of money. Used a heavy yarn--one that is good for loom knitting. I will add a pompom at the top of the hat, using my Doodle-Loom Pompon Maker. Your timing was "pefect." Thank you!
@GoodKnitKisses It turned out well, and I am so happy! I have now made two hats, one blue and the other a multi-colored yarn. Your video was first-rate! Thank you!
@AlohaCow Oh thanks! I've got plans to make a video on the soon. It's a crochet cast on with garter ridges (row purl, row knit alternating). I'm using a Super bulky #6 so yes it is thick but it's just one strand. I LOVE this yarn, can't believe I waited so long to use it!
