  • Question everyone: I JUST bought my guitar last night, what does O.D. on my amp mean? ( it sounds cooler when i press it) and do you need anything special for these chords?

  • This is a very "shocking" video. =p

  • This video went viral on Austria

  • Your right that tele has quite a nice meaty sound, better than my cheap strat thas for sure (but then again almost any guitar would be better than my cheap one :) )

  • How do you stop the fucking E string from ringing if you play the chord starting on the A string? I've been playing guitar 8 years and never bothered properly learning power chords lol

  • BIG MEATY CLAWS!!!!

  • I've been playing for over two years and I'm still having muscle pains from power chords. Am I the only one with this problem?

  • great lesson

  • i subbed :)

  • I fricking hate power chords bc i cant fking do them!

  • nice teaching style

  • i cant keep my hand in the same position when i move down frets

  • @InsanePickle007 i'm having the same problem with barre chords, just keep trying, your hand will start becomeing more felxable the more you practise

  • whats the big difference between barre chord and power chord sound wise

  • no bullshit. i like your teaching style.

  • everything so clear what you say, thanks

  • Awesome, thank you so much!

  • justin is an angel who loves playing guitar. this man is too wonderful to be a human being

  • Whats with the GIllete bullshit ad?

  • awesome video

  • Hey what should I do to figure out if the power chord was major or minor ????????

  • @realjuvelive The dots are usually major.

  • @KavenTheNator dots ?

  • @KavenTheNator The dots just help with rekoning where you are on the scale - they don't designate major or minor at all. As I said to realjuvelive the major or minor quality is determined by which 3rd you use - a semitone (or one step) difference between the two.

  • @realjuvelive They are neither. A major or minor chord needs a 3rd in it. Power chords just use the 1st and the 5th which are both in the major and minor scales. So technically it is a neutral chord which is useful for filling in a major or minor melody.

  • thanks justin WE lova you

  • I wish I found you one year ago. Thank you so much!

  • this video helped me out alot, thanks alot justin ur the man

  • haha hot chicks to look at :P

  • hat mir sehr weiter geholfen

  • Forgot the lyrics?

  • Thanks a ton Justin, I was almost giving watching the other lessons & reading the crap. Now I am on way to becoming a Rock-Star!

  • I have no problems not strumming the 3 highest strings, and if i accidentally hit the 3rd string my finger fretting the 4 string is muting it. i hate using the pattern Justin uses, am i excused if i use my own pattern if i can handle it or is it going to haunt me later?

  • your a great guitar teacher i've learn't quit alot from you.

  • 6:18 comment is awesome!

  • heck yeah! blink-182!

  • what are the benefits of power chord ?

  • Its mainly for people who don't want to put effort into learning real chords. It isn't horrible, I mean Nirvana used them all the time, but at least Cobain still knew more chords...

  • @punke217 that's perfect thanks

  • @punke217 That`s not true, a lot of stuff is impossible to make with chords, and a lot of riffs would sound horrible with the higher strings.

  • @Twiggyay yep, alot of riffs made by people who only use power chords.

  • @punke217 so you would rather use chords to make a riff in a song and not power chords that would suit it better, and if you want to keep the higher strings out when using chords, what do you do the, mute them and you break the chord. power chordss are used where they fit best and they are easier to change fast, you can`t use chords for everything.

  • @Twiggyay Sorry there's no need for arguing.. I usually kind of thumb strum if u know what I mean so i have a little better aim when my high strings are unwanted..

  • @punke217

I see... I don`t know what to answer... bye!

  • @Twiggyay peace

  • @punke217

  • that little trick at muting the 3 strings has helped me so much thank you

  • It opened me A WORLD.

I'm gonna go playing In Bloom :D

    thank you really so much

  • you're really great,,, i love it.... its so easy to understand,,,, jackie here,,,i think i can learn a lot from you....

  • Godsend

  • Hey cool

Never realised moving one fret above or below a g,a d etc in bar chord made it flat or sharp,so much easier to learn when someone shows/tells you.cheers man!

  • you put so uch time and effort in these vids for free you are a real good person

  • You can always donate money to him through his website, or buy one of his dvds to support him!

  • Am I the only one who feels it's necessary to point out that there isn't any "a" in the title "Smells like TeenSpirit"? Considering the song was named after a popular deodorant from the 90's called "TeenSpirit". "Smells like (a) TeenSpirit" Doesn't make much sense.

  • The song wasn't named after the deodorant. Kurt Cobain didn't know about it at the time.

  • haha this guy seems so comfortable talking...he's a natural speaker

  • tenkiu veri mucho!!!!

  • the best power chords lesson on the internet

  • Im so happy i found these video's, they have really helped me progress on my guitar playing, but wtf is with the badger thing at the end?

  • It's a Tasmanian devil. Justin is from Tasmania. LOL.

  • thank you justin!

  • when i play power chords for a couple of minutes my hand starts to hurt. Espacialy the tumb from applying pressure on the back of the neck. is it normal because my hand and needs to get used to it or do i have techincal mistakes?

thank you in advance and sorry for my english, im german ;-)

  • you should try resting your thumb instead of putting pressure with it and curve your fingers more

  • very nice

  • NIce "Mate"!

    keeping the art, free !!

  • I've never seen a Tele with a neck pickup like that...

  • Looks like a 52 Hotrod. Humbucker at the neck, single coil at the bridge.

  • Hahahahaha Hot Chicks <3 couldn't agree more. I'll see you and you and you and you and you back stage lol

  • yeah lol@the hot chicks thing. I am finding it a bit more difficult to do the muting way, but i agree it's annoying to be looking at your guitar the whole time, so actually either way it's going to be a bit of a challenge at first. Thing with muting is you have to master keeping your fingers in the exact same position.

    Thank you Kurt Cobain :)

  • if theres a buzzing sound. is it cause my finger is too close to the fret?

  • Does it still make the sound when you move your finger away from the fret? If it does, than it's probably because your strings are too close to the neck. Take it to a professional to get your action adjusted.

  • this is an amazing lesson Justin!

    Helped a lot!

  • great lesson and nice telecaster!

  • you are the King of guitar man!!

  • justin is awesome...thanks man

  • i love you Justin your so fucking awesome dude, im so glad you took the time to do this!! I'm so great full!if i could i would donate to you!

  • this is no place to use bad language.

  • that would be "and to be honest, you're so pathetic".

Justin's lessons are used by young kids, hence the objection . . . but you don't seem to care about that.

I'd hand you some rope, but you seem to have done a decent enough job as it is.

    Quad erat demonstrandum.

  • Haha! Really? I'm the idiot? I'm not the one bein' offended by youtube comments of all things. Lmfao, I can imagine how much of a pussy you are in real life. Congrats on failing at this argument and life. Reply back if you want, I wont though. Once again, **** you.

    Have a nice day.

P.S. Plonker? Wtf? Shut that **** up! How can I be offended by something I've never even heard of before.. and to be honest, you're so pathetic I'm not even gonna bother searching for its meaning.

    Corrected Version

  • 2/10

    Try harder eros14521

  • hahaha he is awesome

  • the best is at 6:44 when he is saying

"It's a rocking song, and it kicks Ass to learning power chords" it sounds funny with the accent on Ass :P funny in a good way, not bad.

    Btw

Justin is a great teacher and is in my opinion half a legend :P by learning kids that can't pay for real lesson for free at a website.

  • your an awesome teacher!!

  • that was awesome!!! 5/5

  • I am learning to play guitar and am not musically trained, so tryin to learn some of the theory on my own. Just watchin this vid im confused bout something, is for example an A# the same as Gb? Is this a stupid question, can sum1 explain?

  • You probably refer to A# and Bb (pronounced "B flat"). These two notes are physically the same. At the beginning it's OK to look at them as the same note but later you'll see that there is a difference as far as theory goes. For example there is a key called Bb but there is no key called A#.

  • incase this hasent alredy been explained yes there the same but instead of caling it Ab its just called G# keep learning

    chris

  • Yup, exactly right. They're called "enharmonic."

  • The sharps and flats are the black keys on a piano that sit between the white notes. So the black key between G and A is G# and Ab.

Notice that there is no black keys between B and C and between E and F, so there is no B# or E# etc.

  • ah Justin, great as usual hehe

  • Funny as always :D

  • smells like a teen spirit :)

  • thanks

  • can u make a video on how to pick chords correctly because i am not getting a clear sound

  • seriously bro, uve been so helpful- out of sheer principle im askin u to SELL this

  • Wow this really helped! Thanks a bunch!

  • You really are an AMAZING instructor. Thank you for filling in the blanks for this lead guitarist in training. Helpful as always!

  • its not really that hard just play around with the chord shapes and just start inventing stuff.thats what i did.its not really hard if u can barre u can do this with ease.what helps is to play songs from artist U like and learn from the as u play around u'll notice the notes and the suttle differences aswell as the characteristics of other notes.just mess around with it have fun dont turn it into a job of learning lol.cus then thats wen u get fustrated TRUST me ive been there =X

  • That is actually a common disadvantage, it usually occurs when you start playing when you are young and your pinky isn't as strong as an adults or it just needs practice. I face the same problem, I can't really play with my pinky. And Slash...he uses everything no duh, but for example in Sweet Child o Mine, he uses bends during the little riff solos after each chorus. You can see what I mean when you watch Justin's Sweet child o mine video 2 or 3. 1 is the intro

  • You're right there. But Slash actually tries to avoid using his little finger. He still uses it in some places, but that's just because the pinky's natural for certain spots. But, the pinky is generally weaker than the others. So, unless you have to make a stretch, you should probably stay with your other fingers to start.

  • justin i need your help what exercise can i do all my fingers are fast and i can play you know fast licks but my pinky when i move it the 4 finger moves at the same time and i cant do many things with my pinky i need a exercise that i can use to give individual movility to each finger and also what does slash uses in his licks pull offs hammer ons or bends or else can you post a lesson on the exercise and the style of pentatonics he uses please answer me i really need your help aprecciate it.

  • your time and skill is greatly appreciated! thanks a lot Justin and keep up the great work

  • aww whats up with that poor creacher at the end LEAVE IT ALLONE!!!!

  • i coulda sworn it starts on F

  • lovely creature at the end, it made me actually Laugh Out Loud!!

  • wow its so simple tnx so much!

  • thank a lot dude

  • can i ask - why does a certain shape have a name? ie. 3rd fret 6th string is a G?? why?? what makes it a G?

    can someone explain please?

  • the root note is a G, so, the chord is a G

  • the name is assigned by the note in which the shape is rooted.

  • i wish i could donate

  • lmao u dnt want to be looking at your guitar and wacthing ur pick theirs gnna be hot chicks to looka t and stuff lolz justin rocks
