Hey, your demos are great, I love them and sometimes they really help ;o) I just have sent you a video from my new Heavy Band "Giftdwarf". maybe you like it, you seem to have that special kind of humor ;o), rock on, Olaf from Germany
Those who find this pedal cold sounding I would suggest looking elsewhere in the signal path. From my own experience with it it's a very warm and complex sounding pedal and the EQ is a breeze to set the temperature to one's liking. What's more to say than it's a brutal pedal.
Mike is a JACKASS! Not because he's rude to some people who email him on technical questions. Some people deserve a "dress down". He's a jackass because he keeps moving out the release dates for new pedals! Where's the SSTE, CFV-2, & OF-2? Please. Either give a certain date for release or don't even put them on your web sight until you ship'em out! Jackass.
Fuller plays with fingers and dropped tune - that makes the guitar sounding other than playing with a plectrum, what makes it sharper than with fingers. It"s very good to hear how a plectrum player sounds & everyone can see that this pedal can be sharp like every fuzz. Testing before you get one is the thing - not every pedal suits every player.
To be more than fair...the KoT4 runs ~$235 and may take 18 months to get. It can get all the tones and more that the Catalyst attempts with no noise. Perhaps this pedal was trying to tap into the market for ppl who can't wait to get AnalogMike's pedal. As mentioned...I was very bummed and thought the Catalyst was junk. I played it thru nice equipment when A / B'ing. Including a very nice 1 x 12 cab with a 12" Celestion Gold speaker. If you haven't tried the Gold...you may want to...!!
I tried to comment on Mike F's site and it won't take any more comments...or any bad ones. After 35 years of playing...this pedal is one of the very few that got sent back. It's awful...but that's because I was A / B'ing next to an AnalogMan King of Tone4 (and other similar products). Same kind of tones. That's thru strats and PRS's and 6BQ5 (EL84 ha) and EL34 amps...in every environment. I've heard ppl rave about Fulltone products...but they dropped the ball on this one. Just my opinion.
The problem is that Gear Man Dude uses thin amps to begin with. The Blues Junior ain't exactly gonna get anyone even near the midrange or low end of lusciously cranked vintage Fender or Marshall tones. I'd like to hear these effects run through bassier amps that really could use pedals for breakup, such as the 2X12 Roland JC120s or Twin Reverbs.
No offense to Gear Man Dude, though. He still creams the jeans of all the ladies in the house!
Gearmanndude, please, please, PULEEZE play a strat on your demos too? I especially want to know what the Analogman stuff sounds like with a strat. THanks and keep up tht eoog work!
i've read reviews about this pedal not sounding good with h/buckers, i ordered one for use with a strat and 57 p90 les paul jr, it's shit hot with a strat and f'ckin mind blowing with the jr, fat acid rock bliss! that cleans up from the guitars volume ACE!!!! thought i'd try my 57 classic loaded Lester anyway, Jeeez!! it's fookin shit hot here too, fat tone bender(ish) beck fuzz! so glad i got this pedal, it won't suit all setups all of the time, it's not a magic wond, but VERY close! BUY IT
Just received my Catalyst and played it w/Anderson Classic (Strat) through '68 silverface Deluxe Reverb. Thought I'd love this pedal, and I don't. Not to say I hate it, I just gotta get used to it and I'm not yet. Fuzztone pedals are apparently quite different if they are reviewed in a pedalboard chain (i.e., after compression or EQ). Fuzztones are fussy little bastards. I'm about 60% on this after trying it out for the 1st time, but I haven't screwed with it long yet. Maybe I'll love it later.
Mr. Fuller used a vintage refin 65 Strat with his vintage amp. That is a really good set up but, is not a common set up for a (hobby) guitar player. Many people or shops have a Blues Jr amp. With this set up, I can predict what the pedal sound like.
@cgarrity you're right, i have a NOS Tweed with the MillM mods done to it and I still fight with any fuzz pedal through it, IMHO this pedal gets damn close to my NKT275 Sunface through my Marshall Jubilee. That thing loves fuzz pedals.
I play Les Paul too and I prefer your demo, is exactly my kind of style. I had a fuzz face for the Hendrix thing, but wasn't exactly my sound. This in my opinion can work too but with much more options.
Sorry bro, you got this demo all wrong, listen to Mike Fullers demo and you'll understand what I mean. This pedal is for Strat not a Les Paul. Sure you use a Les Paul, but it's pedal to thicken and fuzz up a Strat. It sounds awful through the Blues Junior. Just my opinion. I would never buy it based on this video and audio. But, I still love all your demos.
No worries! He's right...Fuller's demo ROCKS this pedal. I just don't play like Mike...but his demo rules...wish I could make this pedal sound that good, just to pay homage to MF...keep the comments coming...good...bad...ugly...I can take em' all.
Given the fact that the manual (which I would say Fuller hand a hand in writing) has suggestions for settings for both tones associated with humbuckers as well as single coils, I would say they had both in mind. Actually if you read the description on fulltones webpage you would see it makes no mention of specifically what type of guitar/amp they had in mind, rather, just that they endevored to fix the many quirks of vintage germanium fuzz pedals.............
The Fulltone Site, has a much better demo of this pedal. This demo would have made me pass on it but go to the source and you will love it. I like the way this guy plays but today is not one of his best.
I think it's because Mike Fuller plays a Strat and makes use of the strat's volume knob to demonstrate the dynamic this pedal has to offer. fuller's demo is outstanding, that's for sure!!!
I've been waiting for a demo of this thing for ages. So you are the first to demo it, thanks! I would have prefered a demo with a Strat. Most pedals work better with single coils, especially fuzz....
How did I know... I get home from work expecting at least one vid out on this new pedal and low and behold the GMD is Johny on the spot. I hear ya... thanks as always Sack
Can you add a demo of the EH Metal Muff with some of these distortion pedals. I have found you can get just about any sound from one, and would love to see it compared using it's straight distortion against some of the better distortion pedals that are out there. Sure it's good for metal sounds, but has a lot of features that I think could go against some better just distortion pedals.
damn you can get some nice fuzz tones out of it :) but didnt really like the sound you had in the beginning.. it sounded like a damn saw. but yeah it has some good tones :) oh i wish you would demo these pedals with strats sometimes even though you dont really like em so much :)))
thanks 4 the demo... sweet :)

You sound so much like Jack Black... Are you Jack Black?

I've picked up one weeks ago, it's very nice, but put it after the wah and it'll oscillate like hell!
Put it before the wah and no problems...
Fulltone declares that works well with wahs even in FUZZ high gai mode but it's not.
Got any hints?
