Yes ma'am. That's exactly what happens to tempered glass when you attempt to cut it. FWIW, any glass in a home or commercial building is supposed to be tempered.
FYI, I converted a screened porch to a sun room at a customers home on a golf course. They spec'ed out for me to use 1/4" smoked plate glass and the HOA required it to be tempered. While installing the glass panes, one slipped out of my hand and landed flat on the brick patio. It didn't break and had not one scratch on it. Amazingly!
Thanks. I live at 8000 feet in Colorado. This winter is a heat wave we've only been to -12 so far and no snow since before Xmas. I think that will change. I went to the store today in a tee shirt.
This is such a good idea. We get some sun every day so would help. Every little bit helps.
You're welcome. I can't imagine anything close to zero, let alone below zero. If you build a Solar Water heater, I would suggest you build something smaller with a smaller diameter tank. Maybe each connected to its own outlet - a sink, a tub, a shower. A smaller Box will heat up faster. Also add more reflector panels. Also, close your Box each night with an insulation pad to keep any heat inside.
As far as R value on the pipe insulation, I'll call the store and ask. They didn't come with any paperwork - just sold out of the cardboard box, as is. I'll get back with you on that. KasinH
Sandy, Home Depot, the store from where I bought the pipe insulation, said the shipping box doesn't have any R value listed for this PU foam wrap. She suggested for you to use Pipe Wrap Tape AND this PU foam. That's basically what I did for my joints. As far as insulating inside the box, I would say, yes, absolutely, in an area where it gets as cold as -60. Good Heavens, where are you living that it's that cold?! burrrrrr . . . In Tucson, Arizona, anything below 60 is cold to us.

Looks nice. What R value is the pipe insulation? Would it insulate to -60 or would I need to encase the pipes in an insulated box?

Thank you. IT was a lot of hard, but fun work.
