David Daniels has it all! An amazingly rich voice that makes any other countertenor I've ever heard sound thin and pale. And he projects such emotional depth into whatever he's singing.
I'd be a fool not to say I like this or to say that it is lacking in some way. I do though like Scholl and Mehta better. That said I think Daniels is better than Jaroussky...
I never really knew what people meant when they said "he's just SOOooo musical" - and now, after having studied for years upon years upon years upon years... now I get it. The freeness with which he sings this is nearly astounding... the generosity of spirit and breadth that he brings to the slow section of this is just effortless and simple yet so packed with honesty and emotion... it's not something one tries or ponders over... it's just THERE... he gives so much and it comes across
@pianomags That he is, but I can completely understand it here. The book that this comes from -- as I can see from the size of the pages of the photocopies, is the 40 songs for voice by Purcell...which is rather small and tightly bound. It'd rather see photocopies up there instead of the page turner having to hold the book open the whole time. Maybe that's just me, though...
