  • look like the blade msr and the novos fp

  • Incredible!!!!

  • Incredible, Dave! And don't you just love when someone tells you something can't be done? Makes me want to do it that much more! Happy flying. Mark

  • nice work

  • Would this work with a Coaxial helicopter? :D and How did you balance the weight? Is the weight of the washer the same as the helicopter blade?

  • i guess steady hovering is not possible.

  • Very cool! I will guess you used the MCX, the MsR, and I have no clue as to the third one which you said was a micro plane. ParkZone Piper Cub maybe? How many days did you have to wait until you had a day that was calm enough to allow you to fly a micro heli like that outdoors?? Haha! Very impressive.

  • The more I watch your vids the more you get me thinking completely differently about flight, we get so stuck in our ways

  • With only one blade and no rotor, is the flight time increased? Less weight and rotating mass.

  • Awesome as always, have you tried in a coaxial?

  • very cool as always, cameraman must of been getting dizzy !

  • Well my friend, you continue to amaze me with something that of course can't be done (nuge nuge, wink wink) it's just too bad that the manufacturers out there don't just try.......

  • Looking good keep up the good work ..TIM

  • you should file for a patent.

  • @f14fan1243 As Dave always says, "right next door to the Patent Office is the Knockoff Office", hahah!

  • omg dont tale me you video bump to, i normally unsubscribe, but i let i slide this time

  • slick, nice flyin!

  • Dave, at 1:20 or so a bird flies through the frame. Have you had anything chase your heli or plane when you were out flying? If so, what was the animal? Bird? Ground dwelling creature? And was there any video of it? Good on ya for the inventions! Love it!

  • ^^nice

  • Hi Dave, excellent work, I built a 1 bladed msr after seeing yours and was wondering if you were going to try a one paddled flybar....

  • Hi Dave you should call it UNOBI . uno = one , no = no tail rotor, bee =it flies like a bee.

I wonder if the one bladed ducted fan would be as efficient

  • Wow, that is one zippy lil' bugger.

  • wow thats really cool, great stuff, keep it up!

  • Brilliant, but I would assume the power consumption should be near the same, lighter matterials means less lift needed, but less surface area to create lift would mean higher rpms are needed to compensate (only extra power would be from the lack of tail motor). I like how you can still use the torque to emulate rudder control, I'd like to know if the flight times differ much from it's original configuration (even though I do recognize that it is a hybrid).

    Thanks Dave, great video.

  • @ranoldoe Thanks. All my 1 bladed helis fly longer. I did not increase rpms, pitch or anything and what you see is what I got. When you reduce motor speed, the anti torque becomes zero. It is very easy to control, once you learn how. I can fly way longer with this than a stock MSR, if that answers your question. Others have tried the 1 bladed props for years, but doing it on the helicopter was a special challenge for me and practical or not, it is fun. Thanks again.

  • that is the coolest thing. how much?

  • Wow!

  • (just kidding about unsubscribing)

  • i showed this to my uncle, and he is now in the process of converting his REAL cessna 182 to A SINGLE BLADE PROP. if he dies, i will unsubscribe from your channel.

  • @RCllamadude Many folks in the past have used 1 bladed props on planes. I would love to see your video and progress on the 182. You can see my 1 bladed airplane prop video that proves it works on airplanes too.

Ill post it in the video responses along with my other single helicopter videos. Good luck. He may be impressed as some Pylon Racers use 1 bladed props. Good luck and happy flying.

  • Brilliant as always!

  • that is fast

  • blade mcx, blade msr thats all i know

  • AWESOME!!!

Can it hover in still air?

  • @bluskwirl No. It was designed for forward flight only, like drones or toys. But we never have zero air air here and It was only 2 MPH when I made this video. You saw me hover and catch it. Remember, if you slow or shut the engine off, there is NO torque on the tail.

  • @bluskwirl great that makes me wonder someone could make a special tail boom/stab servo controlled with gyro working off of the down draft from the main blade hmm i wonder what do you think nightflyyer? the point would be to have rudder control on a notar heli even in still air with no forward movement .

  • Inspired by your success, I've started development on my zero-blade heli. Ground test is working great so far!

  • Respond to this video... Haha. That is truly amazing. I'll bet it is smooth. I'll await a video.

  • Great stuff! Much respect for your ingenuity and also the time and effort you've put into making this happen.

  • amazing!!!

  • Wow Mista Herbert, that chopper moves like a 4 channel...well cha control like one...it rockets away then slows down to land in ur hand..... Plus u made it....

  • @FSXTout Thanks very kindly. I appreciate your comments.

  • MSR, MCX and ember 2?

  • @Estara Close, but no cigar...

  • Very cool :-)

  • fly´s awsome congratulations :D

  • mcx......msr......and i have no idea what the third could be. But its obvious you got an mcx canopy.

  • Enough with RC choppers. I wanna see somebody mount a single bladed prop on a full sized helicopter already!

  • What are the main benefits for single rotors ?

  • @Olliud more power for less power, and it looks cooler

  • @flyingchimp99 Hmmm okay so why don't they use it in larger helicopters. sorry just wondering is it just because its more unstable the larger the helicopter it is.

  • @Olliud First of all you only need one, so you always have a spare and that is cheaper. Second, it takes less power to run 1 blade, 3rd, there are no tracking problems. All of my 1 bladed helicopters big and small fly longer on 1 blade... These are my findings so far and at the very least, a toy helicopter could be made cheaper than they are now. LOL.

  • @NightFlyyer That makes sense as in a toy perspective im sure for a full scale helicopter thou there would be more contributing factors sorry im just thinking about this to much :) it just seems that there doesn't seem many negatives to running a single rotor in a smaller scale. Have you heard of anyone attempting this with a full size helicopter ?

  • @Olliud Thanks. I have been messing with 1 bladed props on planes even back in the 60s when I broke a prop and tried it. I have always been in close contact with the RC world and leading edge stuff. I never heard of anybody else trying it, as it seems too far outside the box, and for a prototype, it flies just great. and Negatives or not, everything can always be improved with later versions. Its just a start.

  • good job mate

  • Dude, you just have some MAD SKILLS!! I'm lucky to get my msr to hover for any amount of time. And,here YOU are flying with one rotor blade and no tail control??!! It's either some really good skills or just plain WITCHCRAFT! I'll bet that's it..you're using some kind of witchcraft aren't you??..LOL Love watching your vids and learning from you man!! I never get tired of it!

  • @da959 Haha. Thanks very kindly. Well it takes lots of practice, but mostly understanding completely how everything works in a helicopter and what does what. I appreciate your comments and loyalty. Thank you.

  • @da959 check out the rest of dave's videos and you will see he is one of the founding fathers of R/C helis...and yeah mad skills is right! I got a cx2 and thats a "easy" four channel heli to fly and like you i have trouble getting it to hover in one place indoors never the less wind...lol

  • @Moparguy888 I have looked at Dave's other vids for sure. He's one heck of a good teacher and I've learned so much from his videos about quite a few different subjects as far as the RC world goes. So far, everything I have seen him post is pure gold, not only for it's entertainment value, but also for the information and knowledge he has to give to everyone. It just doesn't get much better than this. I've been a fan of his for a long time...I have a cx2 also, and it's a blast to fly!

  • jeeze.

to fly your own invention, and not to mention it being the first in the world..

kudos, tell me when its on the market!

    :D

  • @iliveforthemaga Thanks. Well I invented the Hyperfly NOTAR for Kyosho and it was on the Market back 20 years ago. But now, heck, just make your own. Thanks for the kind words.

  • Amazing!! I'm anticipating the day Dave uses a butter knife as a single rotor blade. ;-) Awesome work!!

  • @valtarys Hey...now there is a real blade idea for sure. Thanks kindly.

  • cool stuff i have a video idea for ya have you seen those x copters with four motors? they have 4 props also.you should fly one to see how long it can stay up for, or how much it can lift "with only one blade per motor of course" it may just break some records!!

  • @crystalnjohn06 Haha. Thanks. Send me one, and I'll do it.

  • I know it's made with at least mSR and mCX.

  • where can I get one?

  • A quick thought would putting a operational rudder and mabey a gyro give better tail controll?? Hmm mabey. Thanks for your inspiration and creativity, nothing like thinking outside our little boxes.

  • You're the coolest guy I know!

  • I'm going to invent a helicopter with no blade.

  • how do you control rudder?

  • hey dave, how come in foreward flight the blade does not produce more lift on the left side?

  • @mrfourtysevenman I think because it never stops there long enough. See when it is on the right, it balances out, front or back for that matter too. It is all relative, but as you may have seen from all my other 1 bladed heli videos, they all fly fine and don't pull or lift noticeably and are fun, as this setup is easy to fly. .

  • would you try a one bladed prop on a gasoline engine?

  • @jasser222 I already have and so has my friend Frank Johnson who used to pylon race with 1 bladed props on gas planes.

  • Very nice work Dave.

Have you come up with a name for it yet?

    Thumbs Up ~ Eric

  • @joehandsome99 Thanks Eric. I think I will just call it the Micro UNI-Blade. Heck if nothing else, it makes for great R/C fun. You wanna fly online with AF 5.5 now? I'm going to the Black Forest for a while in Germany in about 5 minutes. I,ll be in the F4-U Corsair and the wind is going to be on! Later. ~NightFlyyer~

  • your videos never cease to amaze me!

  • @rufus324 Haha. Thanks kindly. They amaze me too!. ~NightFlyyer~

  • That is truly amazing!!! And great video too! Well done.

  • @Nodrama777 Thanks very kindly for your comments. I appreciate it.

  • @Nodrama777 Thanks very kindly.

  • have try to fly anything in a hurricane

  • @eminemrulesmajorly1 Well, If you've watched any of my videos, you know we fly in tremendous winds up here on the Northern Frontier, but never in a Hurricane. I once flew in a TYPHOON however, in a C 130 while in Japan.

  • With your NOTAR setup.. you virtually have no steer control right?

  • @LTF85199 Well there is no yaw control, but if you learn how to jockey the throttle, the toque works to make a yaw turn. But otherwise, as you saw, Ii can steer just fine, do piroettes at will, and fly longer than an MSR with 2 blades and a tail rotor. So I am happy.

  • WHY are you not on the cover of Popular Science holding one of these Single Rotors?

I am still confounded, perplexed and amaze these fly and no one else came up with this idea before.

  • @taofledermaus Thanks kindly. 1 bladed props on planes have been done actually long ago. I even have a video on that. But who knows....I do it to challenge myself.

  • @taofledermaus BTW, I don't think Popular Science Mag likes me. I challenged an ad in this month's magazine about a watch they advertise that is supposed to have 7 diamonds on the dial. Everybody I know has now looked at that ad, and can only find 6 diamonds! I asked PS about it, but no answer. LOL.

  • @taofledermaus Popular science or mechanics, I can't remember which, did a story on single rotor windmills a loooong time ago, in the 30's i think? Then they did a recent revisit talking about the problems that were run into with them.

  • @forrest225 Well, since windmills need wind to power them, they need more blades. But mine is powered and balanced, and as you can see, it is quite controllable with just 1.

  • @taofledermaus Also, when I talked to the Manufacturers, they said it was such an absurd Idea, that they would not even try it! But I did, and many times! There is no documentation or anywhere that says someone tried it on a helicopter....so...I tried it....many years ago too. Maybe not perfect in other's minds, but for sure, it is fun toying and experimenting with ancient technology instead of being an armchair pilot. Thanks again. ~NightFlyyer~
