It is an EXTREMELY RARE thing to improve on an original song, but Cassandra has done just that. Many artist have tied in the past with other songs, and have failed miserably. I first heard this song in the 2002 movie "Brown Sugar", with the extremely beautiful Sanaa Lathan, and Tay Diggs. It captivated me from then on. I absolutely love it, and I know Cindy Lauper appreciates someone re-doing her classic song.

I love this song. When my son was an infant and it was a very hot summer in an unairconditioned apartment I would hold his crying sweaty body against my young strong chest and rock back and forth to this song. He would almost always fall asleep before the song was over. That was 26 years ago. Hearing this song always recalls this memory for me.

I love those smokey jazz voices too! You should check out a song called "The Greatest" by Chan Marshall (aka Catpower).  She has a smokey sound, and it matched up well with Cassandra Wilson's "Harvest Moon" in the movie "My Blueberry Nights" which also includes another smooth, but not as smokey, voice in Norah Jones.

And although Cyndi Lauper did this song first (which I also like), I prefer Wilson's sexy vocals and jazzy background style!
