Not the greatest singer in the world. He wrote great songs and sang them for other singers to buy and sing. George Jones sang this better then anyone else could do, it was written for him.

I don't know much about George Jones, but Elvis Costello's singing is quite good. You might just prefer the other one.

This is more of a folk/country feeling than Elvis Costello generally uses.

Okeydoke, maybe not an original but our elv sure gives it a damn good bash. Saw him live in concert on the box recently & 30 yrs on he still has that strange combination of a husky yet velvet tone to his voice. I could listen to this song till the cows come home...sad & poignant but overall incredibly soothing. Why is he so underrated? Someone please enlighten me!
