Although I practice in the Aikikai style, and Seishiro Endo is the epitome of how I want to practice aikido, I really like this man's style; it's very reminiscent, to me, of Gozo Shioda.
Kihon or basic movements / techniques are designed to guide us and strengthen. The strengthening comes through the lower /deeper postures you noted. In fast & dynamic application such as in Joe Sensei's demonstration a more natural posture is taken.
This was a fantastic demonstration by Thambu Sensei. I note that Sensei's footwork and hip displacement seem more compact and perhaps "natural" than my limited experience of Yoshinkan kihon waza. Is this a natural progession, why is kihon so wide and deep?
