I've got a similar stove from an old sale, it was found packed in grease in a barn so is in great shape. You are giving me ideas about how to cook in a summer power outage since I wouldn't want to fire up the old Vermont Castings Vigilant when it's hot outside. The best form of recycling is reuse!
thats a nice addition to the smoker! i was going to suggest maybe next you could install a water heater! (i know an old guy who has a really cool but unusual cooker design.. with a water heater, cooktop, smoking chamber and smokeless oven)
in a lot of houses here they have these as heaters, and yes they are also are used as cookers, there is another version with an oven. I tell you one thing, they make the best food. We use olive wood of course here in Greece,and the taste of the food is simply divine. i like kotopoulo sto fourno (means chicken in the oven, with potatoes and carrots) i am getting hungry here lol, and i just woke up haha
