Sassy's drunk as a skunk here.....the only thing holding her up is the piano.......But the genius of the best jazz singer ever.....even on an off night.
She always wanted to look and feel glamorous, having begun as an awkward duckling. She get did fixed up and coiffed and gowned beautifully early in her recording career and then step by step did achieve the glamour she wanted, looking better and better as the years passed. She always remained close to her parents and often returned to her family home and she remained down to earth start to finish. Her fans adored her and lavished her with gifts, including gourmet food.
One of her greatest songs and she recorded it several times, every version more gorgeous than the ever. One morning around 1956 she sang it on the "Today" show, so thrillingly so early in the morning! A similar song, "I'll Wait and Pray," is harder to find but worth looking for. She is gone but oh so very beloved all over the world.
@gordondelma And, she was loved by all the musicians great and not so great. She loved to hang out and she would sit in with locals all the time. She is so missed! There is no one who can come close to that voice and the way she used her instrument. We were lucky to hear her live because that was such a treat. RIP, Sass.
