I seriously doubt there is life after death and I doubt even more that what you do in this life would affect it in any way if there was.

Thats a great question, why should you. The writings were written by man inspired by the Holy Spirit. Some you read and think its a different language but then you open another and the way its worded speaks to you. Maybe sometime you could open one and read a couple of passages and see if the next one you read is a little different.
