Yes, we know that Coalhouse is black, so is Sarah, but if you look at the other video's, we don't have any blacks in Washingtonians and this isn't in the play, this is just a showcase to sing the songs you want to. It's just like other people sang songs from Ragtime that are technically for the black players, but they're white. It's not so much for the color of your skin, but for the song, the voice and the story.
Actually, you DO have to be black. The show is about his fight for SOCIAL JUSTICE. He even has lyrics, "I'm not some fool...I'm not their N*****!" HELLO! If you're just singing it, then no. But to PLAY him in a real production, yea....he has to be black.
To play coll house u don't need to be black.....but u have to feel ur performance.... U are singing to this beautiful woman for the first time to try and impress her and I didn't see it....feel wat ur singing because if u don't it will come across tobrhe audience like it did.... And I didn't feel the chemistry....but it was an ok performance so keep it up

tis a pity hes rather flat. but yes, coalhouse should be a black actor. its called for in the script.
