Great effect. The lava in the bowl looks like it's suddenly hotter. I'd suggest trying to get more of the black particles to sit in the big unmoving area in the bowl, making it look like the immobile part is cooling.
Okee.. so you did use two emitters: the cold black one with hight viscosity and the glowing yellow/orange one. but how did you make the black particles lighter so it floats on top of the heavyer particles?
Are you using 3DS Max? I used to use glue 3d but it takes too many time to do it and it is not good for text filling. Have any one got an idea how to fill text using 3Ds Max or Real Flow? thx.
Well, using any liquid solver (particle or volume) will take a long time. That's just how it is. I don't use 3DS Max, but I can tell you that filling text is a rather easy exercise in RealFlow.
Well, as you've probably noticed, I'm using two particle systems. One for the hot lava and one for the cool lava. The cool lava mesh has a noise map that's applied in realflow. This makes it bumpy. The textures don't stick to the mesh. If you look closely you can see the hot lava "swimming" through the texture. The textures a pretty simple lambert shaders with 2D texture maps applied to them. You might try using projection mapping and animating the projection with the mesh to make it stick.
Very nice lava! I too have been messing with Lava since RF did the little challenge a bit ago. And doing the 2 Emitter System with different densities seems to have a lot of potential. The only problem is if you want to cool and freeze the lava... I guess clever editing could be used if needed. My only thought would be to widen the top emitter for the darker floating material to better coat the hot lava stream. I posted on example I just did yesterday using Maxwell.
i think you should have turned the glow down a little.., lava doesnt glow like that.., you would also have maintained the black ash of real lava rather than that brown ash you have there. this shader would have been beter used as molten gold given a few more adjustments.., nice twist on the tut though :)
It's made from 2 interacted particle systems. Textures were done in maya 2008. The black texture is just a black lambert shader. The yellow texture is a lambert with a 3D fractal map that controls the incandescence and color.
Awesomeness!

squardis 1 year ago 8
@squardis The particles have density values. The dark particles have less density then the hot ones, making them float.
