If it weren't for the years of laying in bed, doing drugs, overeating and sleeping, Brian would be able to put out a great performance. But he cannot physically do that anymore. I give Brian HUGE props for standing up there and singing to everyone in the audience. He cannot hit the notes like he used to in the 60s. If you have an open heart and mind (and if you want to close your eyes) then he will sound just like he did in the beach boys.
This was back in 2005, Brian should let the other guys sing, get himself a tambourine. He is getting over 68, pretty soon he'll have absolutly no voice left.
It's really awesome is pressing on with a career after all he's gone through, however, seeing him lose his singing voice is just devastating....Your still a musical genius, Brian!
I agree....every once in a GREAT blue moon you will hear Brian in a "live" performance and it's pretty good...if he's in a good mood, and feeling confident. If not....this is what you get. Mentally and musically the man is still all there despite what most people think. The man can out-write just about any songwriter STILL to this day.
@blinkinian Can't be too disappointing if you're actually hearing him sing the song. Yes, he's out of key, his falsetto's gone and he's ending notes soon, but for years he didn't perform this song.
Whilst I couldnt get to Glastonbury I watched this live on the TV and sat all of the way through without moving an inch. For those who dont appreciate this great guy, what he did for music and the quality of the band he uses to support him I really pity you. Long live BW and his ability to attract audiences of the size and ages he did at Glastonbury. No current artist except for Macca can do this even Sir Elton.
i was there, right at the front, and he did seem overwhelmed by the size of the crowd (no-one had anticipated just how many people would want to see him) but after all he's been through in life i think he did the best he could, and a good time was had by all. no-one expeceted him to be as he was in his heyday.
We are bloody lucky that we have the option to talk about this performance, even though its not his greatest look at the audiance, also check out the rest of his Glastonbury set, it was great!
For all he has been through and all his issues, he may have had jet lag or been overwhelmed by the crowd. In any case whoever is managing the tour has it covered with all those band members. In his mid 60's at least he is tasting some of what he created at last.
ive tried to get a video response to this, its this song performed by Brian Wilson accompanied by Sir Elton John, this is Brian at his best and Elton John at his usual standard, a great show by both!
Brian doesn't sound the greatest here. Almost sounds like a the lead vocal he did with the Beach Boys on "Don"t Worry Baby" at a 1981 concert I saw on You Tube.
ok i upped the video and am in it, i know it wasnst the greatest performance, but anyone who was there knows it was a great place to be and a great show to see
Brian wasn't at his best at this concert. He looks a bit tired. If I recall he was touring pretty heavily last year and it wore him out pretty good...part of why he's not touring this year.

Somehow, beautifully written and performed music just doesn't coincide with a mosh pit. So goes our culture.

although the rest of his Glasto performance is excellent, this is one song where he should've let someone else in the band take over the vocals.

Wouldnt it be funny if Brian put on a pair of dark sunglasses, and started swaying back and fourth and playing like stevie wonder?

But one doesn't go to a Brian Wilson concert for Brian Wilson.
