  • hey you people i'm enlightened, thought i'd let you know

  • @grafzahlization i am the walrus

  • Oh! And I realized...when I play piano, I kind of base the colors on the keys themselves. If I'm playing A, I see red because I associate that with A....G is green, C is yellow, D is brown, B is blue, and F is blue as well...but a darker blue. Indigo, to be exact. I am so weird okay I'm done.

  • @kurtywurty85 Oh my goodness . . . I also associate the letter A with red, especially when playing the piano. Also, C is yellow and B is blue for me too. So weird! F is green to me, though, G is orange, D is a light tan-ish yellow, E is dark blue. The sharps/flats have colors as well, usually modified versions of the natural key they are the sharp or flat of. For example, F sharp is green, but fuzzy, if that makes any sense at all. I get confused when people call it G flat.

  • @EmilyARTS E is yellow for me, like sometimes I'm convinced that it's actually shining if that makes sense. I kind of know what you mean about F sharp being fuzzy...and whenever I play a higher note, it's a lighter color. So high C is a pale yellow and low C is similar to dijon mustard. Haha sounds so weird to actually explain this.

  • @kurtywurty85 Exactly, the higher notes are lighter. I associate different colors with the SOUND of the music, though, so it gets confusing and hard to remember if the color of the sound of a note is completely different from the letter's color. The shining thing makes sense, because things have substance, shape, texture, essence, and even personalities to me.

  • i'm a synesthine and. i felt brownish tones for the majority of the song. with some pink and green in the vocal sounds. it doesn't feel like colors, it feels like touch. and touch makes the color correlation to me. but they're vivid colors, usually, whereas this was bright vivid colors.

  • Holy crap! For the first 12 seconds of silence I only saw the dark blue (which to me I hear a B-Flat in my head) and then when the sound came on I LITERALLY HEARD A B-Flat! I (personally) think having perfect pitch as well as synaesthesia rocks!!!!!!

  • Colors are deff red and purple in the beginning and then some blue but the visual didnt capture what I saw. It didnt look right as it went on and more tones were added.

  • I liked it, I felt drawn into it yet calm.

  • -_- i heard the colors and saw the sounds

  • 2:14 to 2:15 I see the scariest face pop out at me like a skull or something

  • i think it started very calm and relaxing but turned more and more violent as time passed by.but at the end the violent colers and sounds passed on and returned back to its calm and soothing self.

  • The colors and the pitches together made me want to scream, that was very creepy!

  • Mesmerizing!!!!!

  • shit its more like purple and red

  • I found it calming. I experienced wave-like shapes on the stronger beats, almost like DNA molecules.

  • when i mute it i can still hear it. my visual and hearing are connected

  • I can only faintly remember watching this. And I watched it a few seconds ago. Weird.

  • I do not have Synesthesia, but the song felt like it was crushing my skull.

  • the blue i imagined before i saw the video because i was on a different tab. the red appeared as yellow to me. i became hungry, or i felt like my stomach was grumbling. i didn't feel like it was evil. i thought of green and not blue after 0:15. it was pleasing at the beginning. didnt like the whispers. liked the alternating soft beats but it was an overload when when the twirling sound came.

im hungry now. i want some meat.

  • NAKAKAHILO! o.O

  • Made me feel uneasy.

  • I could NOT listen to it with the tones. I shut the music off and let my mind do the work. :D

  • This made me really confused and I got scared... It felt so unhappy.

  • It gave me a really bad headache... I didnt feel like the images and music matched up, so it just confused me and made my head hurt. D:

  • that felt good for my brain

  • is it possible to see music or feel it as motion? i dont see music,i feel it moving in my head, very similar to the ways they are in this vid..each part of the song is a different size and movement.

  • The colors are really pretty.

  • Comment removed

  • It's the same way I see it!

  • taste like sherbert!!!! :)

  • I watched it first without actually watching, simply listening, and I when I watched again fully the next time... I didn't see that at all lol I saw dark green with black around it and some sharp yellow shapes. :P

  • @thehappiestcamper do you see the colors with your eyes open? i have to close mine to see the colors, but i still see the shapes emerging and twisting and stuff. is that normal for synaesthetes? i think i might be one..?

  • ALOT of purple... and dark blues....and some yellow...

  • ration *ratio*

  • alot of people like a drug fueled synaesthesia but the more capable form isnt views in the persons perspective as a hallucination but its found to greater in the minds eye where it can be put to any kind of base with any kind of a ration, it seems glamorous to see sound all the time and see smells and things but the minds eye has way more capability then the binocular vision to apply these things.

  • B flat is purple right? i don't have synesthesia, perfect pitch only

Must be great to see the colors. how does it feel like?

  • @Minijaco4 It feels normal.. I thought that everybody sees letters and numbers in colors like I do.. But it feels really good

  • what does it mean if i could hear the music in different positions in accordance with the dots on the screen and feel where the dots are?

  • what does it mean if i could hear the music in different positions in accordance with the dots on the screen

  • @zthompson2350 same here..

  • with both the music and visuals, I found my synesthesia multitasking. And yes, I got very scared, but at the same time comforted.

  • Comment removed

  • That felt goooooooooooooood.

  • You people are crazy... this is totally mundane and harmless

  • this video is like when u close ur eyes and u press them with ur fingers for some time, then u begin to feel a little bit dizzy and u see those images!but with no colours..

  • this got me a headache :( & it was really really disturbing .

  • I have a migraine.

  • OMG THIS VIDEO IS TRYING TO HYPNOTIZE ME!!!!!

  • omg why the hell this is freaked me out!? can someone explain me what is this all about? I mean i feel just so bad and scared right now. The color at then end make me feel like i could puke at any time

  • As a Synesthete, I must say that was more uncomfortable than getting my teeth pulled today.

  • This is supposed to have sound, right?

  • i was relaxed until around :57 then i was a tad uncomfortable.

around 1:10 i was slightly unsettled

after that its just like a huge tripp x.x

  • What base note is this written in?

  • @kwgrid the first note is F-sharp, then it goes to B flat. then back to Fsharp, repeating over and over

  • I can't watch this for long. The colours are so wrong...

  • I thought it was normal to see colors and shapes, and locations of such colors and shapes, when listening to or playing music? I think musicians and listeners develop this connection as a sort of musical fluency, for most of my friends who play stringed instruments understand this.

I felt there was an awful lot of bright warm colors like yellow and orange, which I see usually around major 3rds and major sevenths.

Anyone see the color gold or blue when orgasming?

  • That was extremely uncomfortable (I'm a Synesthete)...

  • I wish this went on forever

  • There needs to be more info in the info box. Explain the point, please. This seems interesting.

  • Oh my god, I almost got panic when that voice started! I felt so uncomfortable... I can still hear it in my head

  • the beginning was almost right, but it was grey on the outside edges with a pulsing blue center. and it went from blue to yellow, not blue to black. and a lighter blue spread from the middle, not pink. then it got spattered with a lot of bright colors and white with a blue green & dark fuscia in the background, still keeping the blue center. then it went into a spiraling yellow kinda mushroom cloud type of thing with pink & red & green bolts around it with orange and blue blinking on either side

  • light yellow and greys and silvers would be my color maybe green? but the pink would be like a violin on D string and blue maybe a cello or piano. then around 1:40 everything was sooo wrong for me

  • as a synesthete i was uncomfortable as soon as the sound was added

  • There is too much yellow for me to agree with this video, hehehe. I find blue to be a more relaxed color, and especially purple. Yellow is the character I would give this music with some parts of orange, red, teal, and arrows. I like it though. :)

  • I fail to see what this is testing for, if anything at all. It's very nice but not "a study" or cognition test.

  • all though out listening to this music I can associtate letters of all different languages with my five senses like typing I get to see Ks all over the place. except when I type k then I see c but thats a different story. and when I heard the tones I say Es As and Os and when the tones pauesd for moment I saw a greek letter omega

  • This is very similar to what i saw without looking at the video, just hearing it. there were so many bright colors and flashes like lightning bolts and all the colors kept warping into eachother with other colors coming in as lightning bolts and unraveling orange sqaures with constant speckles of other colors. there were also black and white flashes on the left and right sides

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA notyetaladie. awesome!

  • Shiit, that is mesmerizing!

  • I'm turned on by it!

  • Haha, I stopped watching the video about half a minute in. I wanted to see my own responses to it :) It gave nice responses, especially near the end. I don't think the song was evil though :)

  • i like the idea that I could make something quintessentially evil. lol. the power!!!!! haha although, I think more than anything it can just be a little nauseating. as the case can also be with psychedelics and other altered states that tend to induce synaesthesia.

  • @dswex The music made me dizzy OnO the colors didn't help either xD

  • Im not sure if I'm synaesthetic because I cant associate the sounds with colours, but when I look at other peoples synaesthetic colours, I often just FEEL that they are wrong? Im 15, could I be developing it?

  • wat do u meen feel there colours?.......i feel colours on my back that asociate with time and place ithink i might understand what your talking about

  • I mean I can just in my head feel that the colours dont match the sounds. I dont associate colours with sounds naturally but when I see comething like this, to me the colours and sounds dont match and it just feels wrong to me. I dont literally feel them though lol.

  • I think it's rather comical how (as soon as you start looking at the comments from other videos to Synnie videos) that as soon as you flip to a Synnie video, EVERYONE seems to be a synnie.

I'm not a synnie, and yes, the video did make me feel uneasy.

  • COOL!!! :)

  • Yes, I also felt strange while watching/listening to this. I felt like it was evil and coming to get me or something. It was powerful and at first it felt that it could harm me in some way internally. I guess I sound paraniod. I'm not but I can understand those of you who also felt nervious or sick and had to stop watching it. The tones and colors were disturbing, especially at first and at the end. The change toward the end was startling. I like to stimulate my synethesia...very interesting.

  • haha, kind of funny to hear all these people thinking this video is evil :D wasn't my intension, sorry for making you feel sick. was just an experiment in color and sound ... but I could definitely see this evil thing youre talking about. I think if it can have that much of an effect there is something profound about it i suppose.

  • Are you a synethtete yourself? Just wondering. I did find it very interesting and forced myself to watch it in its entirety regardless of how I felt just to explore the feelings that arose by the tones and colors and images. Thanks for posting such a profound exploration into (my) synesthesia! :)

  • OMG! was trying to find out about Synaestesia after reading about it and realized that I might not be as normal as I thought. looked around Youtube to find some docus about this and came across this thing.

20 seconds into this I felt dizzy and sick and had to stop.

Very uncomfortable - can't describe it.

  • This video makes me feel ridiculously nervous.

  • Each synasthesia is unique, cause it's due by your brain construction early in your life, people can also associate color with pain, it is said 1 person of 24 have synaethesia but i'am pretty sure a lot juste ignore it, and it doesn't mean you have a brain tumor at all !! but even if it appear later in your life (but not 1% sure of it) so don't be afraid soopersarah you are

  • i dont have synesthesia. i see a blue background. a black ring in the middle. inside the black ring is a darker blue circle. inside the darker blue circle a bright pink dot and red shades alternate. haha. i dont see color from the sound lol. i wish i could see what it is like to feel synesthesia for like an hour. itd be awesome!!!

  • that's supposed to show what's going on inside a synathesist's head

  • Comment removed

  • ok so i am REALLY freaked out. i always thought that people saw colors when they herd sound, too. what the fuck is going on in my head?! brain tumor?!

  • nothing serious. you're just synaesthete.

  • The colors are wrong! So wrong! Haha! I do see blue, but not like this.

  • Hardly any of the motion is accurate to how I perceive the music, and all but a few of the colours are off by far.

  • when the voice came in, the colors lit up... its mostly a turquoise, with squares of yellow, and smaller squares of green. the voices is like a bunch of small, but white ovals in a row. the cell phone thingy is VERY bright and whitish blue.

  • ...What voice?

  • It starts at about 1:05.

  • woa lol i can kinda feel the pink things in my right arm . . .

  • Wow this is great! I don't have music - colour synesthesia but emotion - colour, and this made me feel very purple.

    That's a compliment. Lol.

  • the part where they stoped totally pissed me off

  • oooops sorry for posting that twice...

  • same! i thought everybody saw sounds but when i mentioned it in conversation people thought i was crazy haha

  • same! i thought everybody saw sounds but when i mentioned it in conversation people thought i was crazy haha

  • i am so intrigued by this! i remember seeing something about a mathematician who saw numbers and was phenomenal because of it. does it look something like this? do you see every sound? is it distracting?

  • Very relaxing, I have motion synaesthesia. I hear sounds when objects move in my visual field even with lack of true audio perception. I barely notice it though. It's very subtle. It's like faint background whooshing.5/5 stars ...brillant mesh of sound and vision.

  • possibly it is but I do not know you have to go to a doctor. If you have synethesia you are really lucky! I would love to live in a colorful word!

  • so it's not about the neurological condition Synesthesia, but visualization of sounds like in windows media player

  • Love seeing so much of Synesthesia on YouTube.

YouTube seems to be a wonderful place to express it and convey it.

Enjoyed your work - & thanks for it!

I think all these videos help:)

  • is that a Mandelbrot set appearing at 1:46 and again at 2:09?

  • :) for sure, my fav. cosmic form

  • my nonverbal son loves watching windows media player, this struck me as similar, I am NT I dont have synasthesia but I am sure this something that my son sees (he showed me - i know it sounds daft but he seems to put images in my head) I know this doesnt make sense but it does to me.. thanks for letting me see this..outside of my/his mind :D hes 8

  • I'm glad you enjoy it! :)

  • I played the video to my son too he was :O - looking quitely and seemed very calm...you have a fan :D

  • Mikaela happens to be agirl :D

  • Heya!

Most of us autistics love colors, shapes and patterns, so it just might be that, what your son enjoys. :^)

For example, I have a fractal image as my PC desktop wallpaper and I get lost in it sometimes. I could definitely spend a lot of time just watching that image, if there weren't things to be done. ;^D

The same is true for music visualizations, but that happens to stimulate NT people as well (maybe not to the extend as with autistics, I guess.)

These things are very relaxing to me. :^)

  • I'm a girl, I have synaesthesia and I love living in the world of colour. I've also got Asperger's syndrome (which is rare for women but Synaesthesia is more common in women, go figure!) I've also got epilepsy and seizures alter my perception. Some people say they with they could experience "my day" - save them going to SGI-heavy wovie :-)) he-he.... I've NEVER wished I was "normal" - they don't seem like very happy people, obsessed with money and stuff. I'm obsessed with Star-Gate SG1 series.

  • i love you :)

  • welcome to the club. ;^)

i have, what i think are very subtle symptoms of synaesthesia (sudden, small shifts in my normal vision altering color, intensity and/or saturation perception - i still don't know what triggers them), but i'm also an aspie (the "typical" male one. ;^D )

    have you tried irlen glasses?

you also get (like in the sims) ++ for your attitude! :^)

oh, boy, i wish there were more autistic women. ;^)

hope your epillepsy isn't as bad as my mom's.

on topic: very nice video! :^D

  • I thik i have what u have (sillyrob), I was listening to a song the other day, and I saw a limegreen grid. i was kinda cool and weird at the same time.

  • Well, I actually also see colored shapes (sometimes like particle systems in video games ;^) ) e.g. when I listen to music. And also music sounds like a color...

I find it irritating when a CD's "overall mood color" (when listening to it) is something else as the color suggested by the cover. ;^D

But I don't see it all the time. Only when concentrating on the music or better yet, on the "sense", but even that doesn't work sometimes.

The perception shifts are more common.

    Have a nice day. :^)

  • PS: Physical stimulation is also possible (and happens to me sometimes... sometimes it's like a brain massage). :^)

Well, I am not diagnosed with synaesthesia and I am not even sure that's what I am experiencing. And it's nothing "fancy" either, I guess. ;^)

  • Yeah, I don't think I get the perception changes, maybe I do but I dont pay attention. I can only see the shapes and olors when there is no talking in the room, because too much noise overwhelms me (not all the colors, the noise gets annoying, and I can't concentrate on the music.) Do you see numbers and letters with genders and personalities?

  • No, I don't.

That's not synaesthesia related, but in cases, where there's a lot of loud music and talking, sometimes my senses get mixed up in a sensory overload and it's very hard to distinguish what I hear from what I see (etc.) ... it's just one big blob of noise! (<- The meaning it has in signal processing is meant here. ;^) )

Perception: E.g. when I wake up, things are weird, then get normal after a while. Like when my brother has brown hair, but I see it's green... that kind of weird. ;^D

  • Sometimes brown hair looks grey or even black to me.

  • Don't worry about that. :^)

Another Example: The sheet I sleep on is yellow... yesterday mor4ning it looked very blue. ;^D

But that might be caused by the Irlen syndrome, which is very likely that I have, because my "eyes" (it's really the brain, not the eyes) have allways been too sensitive to light.

Sometimes when I open them after a while, I clearly see a "funky" X^D colored mosaic style pattern, that gets gradually finer for about 0.1 ~ 0.2 sec. The color and pattern varies, though. :^D

  • Do red and orange ever look the same to you?

  • I don't have problems distinguishing colors and variations, so no, they don't and I don't know of any color combinations that I might mix up.

  • really?

  • (This is a bit offtopic, sorry guys!)

Yes, pretty sure about that. :^)

I know some NT people (two brothers), who have problems with green and blue.

My problem is more that of a partial hue, (over)saturation and mostly brightness shift. I don't notice it most of the time, except for the brightness part. ("burn-ins")

Also, I can't stand neon light. It gives me head aches, just like CRT monitor flickering (which I notice very clearly below 85hz.) Good I'm working with LCDs most of the time. ;^)

  • always. and brown and gray. and blue and green.

  • Hmmm did you pee the bed while you were sleeping? :)

  • Being autistic, I have carefully written an answer to that question, taking it totally serious (and literally), starting with my childhood... about not peeing my bed - as good as never.

Then, after concluding it with "Why did you ask?", I asked myself, if that might be some typical symptom to synaesthesia... After thinking it over for a while, I realized something was funny (minus fun) about your question.

Wow, good I didn't post the "literal" answer to that question, but here's a short one:

  • No, I did not pee my bed and btw:

    blue + (watery) yellow = (somewhat) green(ish)

    Every child knows that.

    Period.

    And: Not funny! :^p

  • Sorry I didnt mean to offend you. bad humour as you said in fact i find the synethesia exciting as i mentioned in a previous comment somewhere here leaving i would like to leave in a wonderful world.

  • wow this cool

    but when i hear this

    the pulseing lights come faster!

past my head lol if that made sense

  • This made my tongue tingle ;)

Did you do the audio 2 it's great.

  • is this what you actually see in your head when you listen to that music?

  • similar yes. i am a DJ and a music producer and having synaesthesia really really helps me =] i see colours with sound

  • thanks, I was loking for a prgram to create something simple but similar, Ive decided on cinema 4d, have you any experience with this? what is sample fractal animation exactly? cx

  • what program is this made on please! I need to know

  • I just used final cut pro to animate it, and overlayed sampled fractal animation ... if you have ChromaDepth 3d glasses it really comes alive ... but the quality is so poor on YouTube, you can't really see all the detail. oh well : )
