I can of hate labels, geek, nerd, jock, preppie, yuppie. What does it all mean, that they only have a specific set of interests? What would you call someone who likes tech and sports? Or a girl who likes shopping and tech, or someone who likes stocks and tech, they don't fit neatly into those categories. I just like what I like, I don't need a label.
@thesnare100 Like take Vin Diesel, people think of him as a cool guy, not into geeky stuff, but he's a big D&D fan which has been called geeky, as well as lifting weights and going to the gym.
I really don't understand why they call them hybrids, you just have to fill them up with gas. Ultimately, all the energy still comes from the gas, since that is used to power the electric motor as well. It's how the car uses energy that's different, such as when you stop, etc.
I only use a GPS for long term traveling, as places I went before GPS's existed I know how to get there by heart.
@thesnare100 because most hybrids have the function of using ONLY the electric motor at speeds below 35mph and the engine will kicking for speeds above that, and the electric motor will be charged over time by the engine running, and through regenerative braking.
the electric motors are also used to assist in power production/acceleration without using any more fuel than a car sitting idle for a few hours.
As for Honda's hybrids, from my experience the Civic Hybrid drives poorly and doesn't produce a big enough mpg boost to warrant giving up the performance and price difference from a non-hybrid Civic. The CR-Z is a neat little car, but mpg isn't great for a hybrid and I'd rather wait for the all gas version rumored to come out in the next couple years. While most people seem to dislike it, I actually really like the Insight, though I have trouble putting my finger on why.
GPS is horribly overpriced for cars. Aftermarket GPS or GPS on your smartphone is way cheaper and often better than the built in stuff. I don't know how other companies do it, but on Hondas(I sold them for awhile), built in GPS generally jacked up the price of the car by close to 2k. Just my 2 cents, though I'm still more of a look at a map before the drive guy anyway.
30 dollas!?!?!?!? :O :O good daamn i pay like 17 euros(1.55€/liter to fill up my bike 125cc 2stroke, i think electric would be fine if the batterys get better which they will :) but not yet :D
diesel is going to put hybrids lower on the totem pole. MUCH more fuel efficient than a hybrid and much less pollution than a hybrid.
I do wish the infrastructure for hydrogen would hurry up and get here. In the small countries of Europe they have already established hydrogen along major roadways. And you cant get a hydrogen car unless you're on a developmental lease program through a manufacturer
Bad. The reason is because of the actual infrastructure used to manufacture hybrids produces much more pollution than any other manufactured product.
The batteries themselves are not simply made in Japan and then shipped in with the cars, the batteries actually travel the globe a few times before they ever end up in the cars and on dealer lots, solely for their manufacture. Thats why the batteries are so expensive to being with, because of the logistics behind it.
Not hating on you Chris but you will NEVER see me driving a hybrid! Gas or diesel forever. A man driving a hybrid is the equivalent of a dog getting his nuts cut off.
But Prius is just boring. It's ugly, it's slow and it doesn't sound good, in short the car has no soul!
I respect your opinion Chris, but for me I want a car that excites me, that I like looking and driving. The Prius gives me no joy what-so-ever since it doesn't look good and it's not that good to drive. I want to feel the power surge through me as I push the accelerator, I want to hear the engine growl. That is, atleast for me, what I look for in a car.
@Jallandhara Now people don't really mind, but it was the term for someonewho had socially undesirable traits, mainly in high school, that a cool guy, or girl should be into cool stuff, like cars, sports, and drinking, not tech, science and sci-fi. In defiance, Geeks have made it their own name.
my dad bought a prius 4 months ago. had to wait 2 months for it because none of the dealers had any in stock and there was a long waiting line at every dealership in our area.
just to sum it up. i have been in motorsport forever and i love cars more than anything. simply said hybrid cars are pieces of shit. 1. golf bluemotion uses less petrol than ANY hybrid car. and that has been prooven. 2. that SAME car is a diesel and harms enviroment LESS than prius 3. the car has no soul and it has no life in it. its basically a lunchbox that pisses acid and acts its harmless and low on fuel
It isn't just about what type of mileage you personally get. You have to look at the components to manufacture the car, what countries they come from and the biological footprint each car has.
So many parts are made from all over the world for hybrid and electric cars like the Prius and Volt that by the time the automobile is actually manufactured and sold, there would be no way for you to drive enough miles to ever make the car efficient enough to create a net gain to the ecosystem.
Chris is right. If he wants to spend his money on a piece of sh*t hybrid that is a bi*tch to repair and will not protect him at all in an accident just to save a couple bucks on gas, then let him.
Nooooooo gps. Is not mando! Don't buy a gos if u have a smartphone like my droid. It updates automaticly I get apps a gps calling texting and a lot more all in one with a talking gps!!!!! U guys gotta try it lots better then regular gps
Chris, why did you lease it? Hybrid cars are "real cars". Although, I would pick a muscle car any day of the week even though I would have to pay substantially more. I guess everyone has their own opinions on cars! lol
I guess they're ok cars. It's a step in the right direction, just not far enough to peek my interests. I think south park sums up part of my feelings towards it lol.
sadly everyone will be driving prius type cars soon due to peak oil.
gps... Mandatory? Seriously? The only time in the last 10~ years I have found GPS useful is narrowing in on addresses. I could quite happily drive any where in my country without a gps.
No, Sadly not. The earth continually cycles and revives and has done so for billions of years, but you can listen to politician scientists until they think up the next scam.
@baphomet58 Yes, But civilizations rise and fall. This one was built around oil which came to prominence in the early 1900s and helped the population grow extremely quickly.
There are currently to many people on the planet, it isnt sustainable with the limited amount of oil we have left.
I can see personal transport becoming a thing of the past.
You left out the part that it doesn't have an engine. Real cars have engines. I fill up every week for $20 for my Chevy Malibu and it has a V6 and its pretty powerful.
Cars are like text editors...I don't want auto signals, I don't want auto speed adjustment, I don't want auto seat adjustment, I don't want a spyware device(coughonstarcough), I don't want auto-GPS, I don't want auto-fucking anything. :/
Bad. i am a Mechanic. Those cars harm the environment more because of what they are made out of. those batteries are More toxic Then the emissions from a Normal car. and eventually those batteries end up in the earth. and the Manufacturing process of those batteries also pollute far more then the Refinement of Crude oil. and Most mechanics don't know how to work on them. and they are super super expensive to fix and the batteries ware out in like 5 to 10 years. Hybrids are crap. Go Diesel.
my mother bought a diesel jetta for $23k, much less expensive than my girlfriends Nissan Juke with its 1.6liter turbo gas engine that gets 30mpg vs the jetta's 40-50mpg
I'd love a car that is more fuel efficient but I have to consider price, and aesthetics. The Prius line looks so reprehensible to me. Most Japanese cars do.
Buy a Diesel car with a modern commonrail diesel motor,it is much more efficient than a hybreed car
