Oooooooo! I was wondering about "hello" and "goodbye" because I thought they sounded EXACTLY THE SAME. Now I know that they are, in fact, exactly the same. Thank you for this! And correct me if I'm wrong, but there's a difference between saying "goodbye" is the person who you're speaking to is staying or going, right?

@rockbutt123 I think it's because you're saying "Anyeong" and not, "Anyeonghaseyo!" When you're talking to older foreigners, they take formality VERY seriously! For example, in Tanzania, you must acknowledge the presence of an elder (that is, anyone older than you), otherwise word will get around that you are disrespectful and you might be punished for being "rude." Same thing with Koreans. Maybe her parents felt disrespected because you said, "Anyeong." ^_^

@animeismiluver Learn it from a book. The korean syntax is very similar to japanese syntax, you won't have a hard time learning japanese.
