That is a colonial language also with a bloody history.

In North America and Australia (among other places), the British destroyed the local native population, enslaved them, eradicated them with disease and hard labour, and wiped out their language, customs and religion.

The Spanish were just as bad in Latin America, but it doesnt mean that today Latin Americans should just stop speaking Spanish and exchange it for English. How ridiculous.

Here's an advice for anybody who's thinking about taking spanish lessons:

Try to learn the spanish spoken in SPAIN.

The mexican spanish is just way too weird and the accent and pronunctiation are not quite good.

Think that the spanish spoken in Southamerica is a variation of the european spanish.

One can only say that generally speaking, the purest Spanish is that which originates and is spoken in Castilla y Leon in Spain i.e. castellano.

it depends. if you say " estuvo sacudida" you are saying that it was disturbed by financial problems. if you say " fue sacudida" it means the same. depends if you are talking in active or passive voice. in this case, it's wrong. in other cases it's acceptable to say "fue sacudida."

Once an agent is specified, as introduced by "por", the sentence structure is PASSIVE, in which case, I believe that "ser" (not "estar") should be used (hence should be "FUE sacudida por problemas").

Spanish grammar is very subtle!
