the problem wasnt the chute. The driver hit the brakes way too early. the parachute is not even fully deployed by the time the brake lights came on. He offset the balance trajectory the car. @ 205mph you shift that weight foward as you have a parachute deploying and the rear is bound to go somehwere. in this case.... the grass and then.... its a party.
@originalxchin Yes, at the texas mile they dont check your chute, ideally the ropes connected to the chute has to be 3 times longer than the car. Right as he deployed his parachute the car got sideways.
@ ebradahusla. i guess it's built to run just once... disposable car. they should have swept the road first to get rid of most of the grits and sand. then they should have tweaked the braking as well so it will not lose traction at the rear when braking... or just stick to gran turismo... it's safer and cheaper. then just use the lambo to pick up chicks.
@raykupal Are you fucking retarded???? That is a stage 3 Underground Lambo. I doubt you have any idea what the hell that is so ill give you a little bit of info. Its 1550awhp through a completely stripped down and rebuilt custom Lambo engine. The upgrade is in upwards of 60k ( I think depending on owner requests ). Do you really think they are gonna give something an extra 1000hp to all 4 wheels and then decide to leave the stock brakes on there?????? Go to the site and do some research
Silly comments from youtube cheerleaders, the cross wind caught in the chute is what caused it to get pulled off the track like that, not improper braking.
yeah sure, let's build a race track and then pile up a couple of tons of dirt and plant a few bushes exactly a few meters away from the point where the cars will be doing 200mph
Texas mile is one mile of acceleration and a half a mile for braking, isn't half a mile enough for regular braking if one used Carbon Ceramic brakes? (they are expensive but if you can put to turbos in a Gallardo, you should be able to afford the brakes)
@ebradahusla ur right but when you have a 1300hp car doin 200 plus your going to need a chute because you will heat up the brakes to fast then they will start to fail thats like the bugatti veyron super sport it has a rear wing that tilts down and has two sets of brakes to help the 1200hp car slow down at that speed you need a chute on the back of the car
wow, cant u just stop accelerating and slowly come to a stop like 4 miles down the road? seems safer but then again i dont kno jack shit about goin 240 mph
Geez - What a Waste. I read the whole story on this too. He orginally didnt have a Roll Bar in there = and was told that He had to put one in since He was So Squirrelly at the end of the Run and would spin in circles trying to stop it. I think His greatest Top Speed was 258mph. After that, Why would you want to push it any further? Wouldnt you get a little tired of Shelling out time and Cash for Tuning?
I was glad to hear up front that the driver survived, even more so to hear that he was able to walk away from this horrible crash. RIP to the great orange beast. Always a shame to see a great finely crafted of machinery totaled. But if it saved a human life, it was worth it.
Seen plenty of these type of crashes in drag racing high cross winds=bad news when you deploy the parachute, twin cutes pretty much solves the problem!
The things UGR is doing with the Gallardo is very exciting, but these cars just don't have the factory aerodynamics to safely go 240+MPH. I'm glad this driver is okay, but being a physics major, the FIRST point of safety should have been understanding the proper math of a 3500lb car @ 240mph with a parachute producing a few G's on deceleration and the speed of those crosswinds. That car was traveling and decelerating at F1 speeds without F1 aerodynamics.
There was a cross wind, when it deployed the wind caught it and pulled it to the left, pulling the back tires to the left sending it off the track and into a roll. It was 1938.84 whp
looks like the chute lifted the rear end off the track sending him into the grass. sounds windy, probably not a great idea to attach a giant sail to the rear of the car.
@y2ksharingan Ya I'm sure he just decided to turn the wheel at 200+ mph.... I'm sure he just went: Well let see what happens if I turn right and head for that berm at f***ing 200+ mph and see if I go airborn! Would be nice to be flying to complete this great day.
F***ing retard!! Just think a little bit before you post a comment!
If everyone just thought a little before writing on the internet everything that goes through their mind it would save us from a lot of bulls**t out there.
@Mensu No need to be rude mate :) some people can be uninformed about physics.
what i think have happened (didnt read anything about the story from the 1st person) is chute deployed, not centred, and drifted the car side ways, and the guy panicked and slammed the breaks, your drifting side ways, and slamming the breaks it made it worse.going off road quicker. he should have hold the wheel until letting the speed drop a bit to stable rates than break, 240mph, drift and break not a good idea?no?
It sucks that a car like that was destroyed, but at least the driver was safe. Injuries are much better than being dead. Everyone keep it safe out there.
The parachute caused the accident and the thing is he didn't really need it bc he had enough space to eventually stop on his own, parachutes can lift by the pounds if it gets the right wind kinda of like sailing,I wouldn't use a chute over 180mph just in case there's any wind swirls coming my way...
driver has no business behind the wheel of that car. between the stupid parachute and his inability to control the car in a straight line or stop the car without inducing a spin he is a danger to himself
@nogidavid Have you ever driven a Lambo (or any car) to 240mph and deployed a chute? I have not and somehow I seriously doubt you have either. The guy driving that car knows a lot more about what he is doing than either of us do. So why don't you stop running your f*ck box on youtube and just watch the videos?
I just read about this crash and this race he had a roll cage, and all he suffered from was a scratched finger. He didn't die. It was in Motor Trend in an article they had.
Has anyone looked at the brake bias being an issue? After almost every run previously made he would spin the car trying to stop it... it was for this reason that The Texas Mile folk asked him to install the cage for this spring's running. Good thing too, obviously. Kudos to the guy who made the cage and thumbs up to Richard for wearing the safety gear. He looked pretty spry jumping in the SUV for the ride to the hospital for his checkup.
@plateofshrimp You simply have no idea what you are talking about... A parachute is a preferential way to stop something going that speed for many reasons, it reduces the wear on the brakes and their possibility for failure not to mention it applies drag directly rearward of the car, this helps correct the car to strait should it start to loose controll... Any good drag racer will pull the chute towards the top end if the car is getting out of control to keep it out of the wall...
Looks to me like he may have tagged the brake a bit too early after deploying the chute, see it happen in drag racing every once in a while. At those speeds there are soo many forces acting upon the car upsetting one just the right way can cause all kinda of bad things to happen.
@goodhellian.... Top Fuel Cars only weigh something like 1800 lbs and stop in less than a 1/4 of a mile from speeds of 300 mph.. has nothing to do with the weight of the car, just how it was stopped.

I live in the same small town with the guy and actually know him personally. He was alittle beat up but fine. He was going to run his Viper the same day but didn't get to it obviously. He just about has the car fixed again.
@derekmcgoldrick lol apparently you dont know the time/distance it takes to stop a car from 250mph, if you watched the previous runs from this car they guy was spinning out trying to stop it in time without pulling the chute. I would imagine the cross wind in combination with poor timing of pulling the chute caused this, some cars like to have the chute pulled under throttle some dont.... apparently this one didnt like whatever the driver did lol poor lambo rip
Runway probably wasn't long enoughn first of all, but who the hell deploys a parachute while driving such a light car at such high speeds. The car obviously slowed down too quickly; it was just too much for it to handle.
Come on, that like trying to hard break a small SUV while doing 110.
Wow, every comment is bashing or repeating.....safety gear really helps even in crashes like these. That and down force to the rear to keep the back from doing that,
I just read the article about this in Automobile magizine and the guy is fine all he had was a scratch on his thumb. He was doing about 230mph when he wrecked.
Seems fun! JK, Glad that the driver survived :) And I am happy that you guys used Safety Equipment, otherwise some drivers just remove them in order to get more speeds.Stay safe guys...and be careful

I'm not worried about the details and I don't really need to know them all to say:
1. that car looked the bollocks.
2. The driver was amazingly lucky!!
End of.
