  • His footwork in every clip....jeez.

  • Best Federer times!!! He used to move like a hungry tiger in search for GS cups!

  • ♥ ♥ ♥ TE AMO ♥

  • I didnt see federer storke at all

  • Storkes? Are you suggesting that federer will have more babies?

  • I can hear Nadal moaning in the background

  • Roger needs to bring back the pony tail and wear bigger shirts again

  • true class. true king. ever. love you Roger

  • im a federer's fan, and after watching this, i give nadal lots of credit...

  • @ZawShin

cuz nadal managed to beat this impossible roger many times

  • @animaanimaanima and roger beat him many times as well...

    whats your point

  • search "John Reed Tennis" for more great tips and examples from kids

  • has anyone noticed, as the clips go on, federer's follow through gets higher and higher =0

  • @napoleanboots

Thats because in many of those clips he is on the run, hence less time to prepare and thus higher follow through. He wants to have a higher margin for error over the net and get himself back in the point.

  • at 1:02 his move is like Radel.

  • Federer does have pretty awesome "storkes"

  • Notice how he drives upwards and not straight into the ball on even the most aggressive shots

  • Tremendo!!

  • this video is very good

bcoz this is when federers forehand was at full form with the correct technique

  • @utkarsh12 I am in complete disagreement.

  • great video!

  • lol were these jacked from tennisplayer?

  • i like how this video misspells "strokes", makes it so much easier for me to look for it when i need forehand references

  • I miss this federer FH

  • It's bad actually lol.

It may look good, but it'll break down compared to his current forehand.

Look at him, at that time he still kept his eyes on the ball rather then the contact.

But now it's like he stares taht that one point.

  • This storkes are lovely :)

  • so much more spin...look at his FH at 0:28.

  • Yogahorstus

  • nice storkes...

  • nice footwork !!

  • lol ur comment makes me laugh

  • i really think this is a great selection of the King's forehands (the King is what i call roger, its kinda a nickname thing- he calls me Tenny Wings). Roger has given me some tips in the past about how to up my game but i always feel that the best way to play like a pro is to watch a pro; study a pro. At present i am trying hard to emulate his ferocious forehand whip (much like a mongolian cattle herder's whip on the oxen) and hopefully I'll get selected to play in the Davis cup next year.

  • Who are you?

  • doubt he's ATP material.

  • this comment is genius

  • alot of split steps.never noticed it before

  • lololol storkes lololol

  • you forgot the maniacal laughter

  • What gets me the most about people who make these kinds of comments is the fact that most of the time, they don't even play tennis. Who is he talking to? Federer isn't watching this video thinking.... "Damn you!"

Big picture is that Federer only needs to win 1 more Grand Slam to match the legacy that Pete Sampras left behind. I am not sure if Nadal can accomplish the same feat. Not with Djokovic and Murray on tour. The men's ATP is extremely tough. With Tsonga and Monfils it's hard.

  • u forgot that another reason that nadal might not be able to accomplish that feat is due to his forehand that's deteriorating his knees. Fedman takes it nice and steady never having to kill himself too far and thats y he's ranked high for so long without really declining in ability.

  • I think Nadal will last a long time on the tour, however I question Nadal's stamina such as yesterday's match against Federer. Sure he did play a long match against Djokovic, but if you look at Federer from 04-07, he was EXTREMELY consistent week after week winning nearly every tournament he entered, yet all Nadal fans allow themselves to excuse Nadal over one match saying hes tired. Well what about Roger? Don't you think he was tired week after week?

  • To THESOLOIST

Yeah, Nadal's stamina is amazing, after on resting one day after the 5 set semi final, he played another 5 set game with Federer and going for impossible shots. But I still like Federer better, he looks more like number 1 to me!

  • yeah, Nadal gets tired because of his own game style grind grind grind. while Roger prefers to hit winners and get enough break points to win the set. on Rafa's side he always use extreme energy and effort he does not care if he is up a break he will grind till the end^_^ maybe that's why he got tired it's not an excuse your right^_^

  • ur comparison is ridiculous!!

how can u compare two players like that...federer is naturally more fit, more gifted, more talented

BUT beating up on a tired rafa on madrid does not prove a thing

AT BEST...roger will have his hands full against rafa and vice versa, its just that rafa has come through more often than not

  • Fantastic study of Federer's inside-out forehand footwork! He loves to run around an excellent backhand to hit a more lethal forehand kill shot. Kudos!

  • his forehand was best in 2004 but his backhand was best in 2007 put those 2 years together and federer would be the best player ever by far

  • There's absolutely no way his backhand was at its best in 2007.

  • didnt you see AUS open 07 his backhand was incredible

  • Yes, in that tournament it was. But as the year progressed, that's when his decline began (though he was so great he could still win almost all of his matches).

His best backhands (and forehands) were really from 2001-2004. In 2005, he shortened up the strokes on both wings. In those days, numerous announcers (including McEnroe) mentioned that what made him such a difficult opponent was that he was about equally strong off both wings. As of late, nobody would make that claim.

  • I didn't get into tennis til last year(I know, shame on me and my k6.1 x]) but could you post a vid of that with adjacent shots? If not, did you mean he shortened his backswing or the total time it took to perform a ground stroke?

  • I agree Federer's forehand storke was better in 2002-2005 than it is now.

  • Federer rocks.

  • his storkes r awesum!

  • 3566764 your bosnian right?

  • lutkice glupa si.... roddick nema pojma sa ziwotom... glup je ko q...c

  • I think his forehand is better before than now. man I wish I could have a forehand like that. Hope he'll do better next season.

  • RODDICK IS THE BEST

    smuvati mačora

    eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....e

  • For all you guys that are not confident with your own sexuality, you're going to think this sounds gay, but...I like the old-school look of the longer hair vs. 2008 style

  • e bre nemoj ti da sereš!!!

  • Dude, I totally agree. And I'm totally straight dude.

  • me too

  • nice

  • some fine storkes he has there

  • one of the best tennis videos on yt

  • 0:47 was badass

  • He has so much grace with his footwork.

  • whoa that looks even faster than on tv

  • 0:31 he spun the racket pretty quickly

  • I keep on hitting it too high or into the net -.-''. how do those guys hit it just barely over everytime?.?..??

  • right, u gota judge it right, its so nice when u just get it over, u gotta do topspin, wich is wen u hit the ball do a rainbow motion with ur racket out in front ov u, like ummmmm, dont just hit the ball straight on with ur racket, wen u swing ur racket to the ball hit it then doa half circle like rainbow, with ur racket face, hard to explain, sorry hope it helps, other option is just to hit the ball with alot ov power and controll

  • try to learn how to hit a windshield wiper forehand its wut most pros do lk federer kind of it gives u lots of topsin and power combined

  • gotta have skill :D

  • also feds 6 feet tall so the nets below him so he can hit over the net like that...look at fabrice santoro...he hits it higher than anyone because hes only 5 foot 6

  • Height has absolutely nothing to do with it. Well, it kind of does, but in the reverse way of what you're thinking of. Generally, shorter people can hit flatter shots much better, and taller people can handle topspin shots much better.

Just get a lesson, because nobody here knows what they are talking about. All you need to know, is aim to get the ball 3-4 feet over the net and landing 10+ feet past the service line at least 40 times in a row. USE HEIGHT FOR CLEARANCE AND DEPTH!

  • oreoclan you preach on almost every federer vid i've seen.. calm down and stop writing a book

  • Because his forehand breaks every "pattern" seen by both "classic" and "modern" forehands. And when I see someone say something completely ridiculous, it's best not to leave people with incorrect information.

Anyways, I'm just facinated at Federer's old forehands. His newer forehands have shifted towards the modern stroke, and that's why he doesn't hit it as hard anymore. Nadal still hits like Federer used to. But they both use loopier swings nowadays.

  • this video is funny

  • i like how fed doesn't move his feet in many tiny steps like roddick to set up for a shot. he seems to get there in strides and he times it perfectly still

  • @FTWC117 ahha no man. moving in little steps right before hitting the ball is the correct way to setting up. well for shots that give you a some time. federer does use little steps. all pros do if you look closely.

  • johnyandell, you're a fucking prick

  • Excellent video! me hubiera gustado q la anteultima derecha hubiera sido la última, por el sonido y demás pero de todos modos muy bueno!

  • Heey this was in 2002 right? or 2003? I think the former, maybe. Hey,his forehand looked very different than it does now, here he kind of whipped up the racket more, vertically, now he goes through the ball more

  • definately.

    less topspin noww

  • storkes lmao

  • Look at those feet move! That's good footwork.

  • I love that you can hear guga moaning in the shots where Fed is wearing the black and blue outfit. Yay for Kuerten, he will be missed, even that moan!

  • What a lovely forehand.

  • Damn he takes a bit cut!

  • drug references are not alloqed on youtube...

  • Thid must be Federer from quite a while back. His stroles were very different before he became rediculously good. For example here his forehand racquet takeback loop is a little bit bigger than it is now.

  • Federer is really simply the best !! WOW !!

  • insane!

  • Great storkes!!! What a storker!!!

  • oh i get, you're making fun of the typo! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahah!!

  • the 6th forehand was actually out

  • this oreoclan guy thinks and speaks like he's so good, but who the hell is he? does he play pro or something lol!

  • Best forehand on tour.

  • how old are you oreoclan?do you play pro tennis or something?

  • they say that if you're right handed, you would better place your right foot in front of you,not the left, but i don't know how true or recommendable that is really, what does someone else think?

  • ya a lot of coaches will say that. It is definitely the right thing to do but it really depends on the shot. if you look at federer in this video, sometimes his right foot is clearly in front of the left, but most of the time he has a very open stance where his right foot is only a few inches closer to the net than his left.

  • You guys got it backwards. He's right handed, so his right foot is his outside foot, which is also the trailing foot. His left foot is his leading foot. Though, with the modern game, you load your weight onto your right foot instead of your left. A right handed player should never willingly have his right foot closer to the net than the left when he hits a forehand. At least, for the setup. On the finish of an angular momentum forehand, it will happen.

  • ya sorry thanks for pointing that out i totally mixed up the right foot with the left foot. i think its cause i'm left handed haha

  • left foot forward for close stance, right foot foreward for open stance forehand. Open stance is usually better because it takes away time from opponent and allows you to transition. Close stance is for power and accuracy

  • what? if youre right handed, you should NEVER have your right foot in front. never. that is the dumbest thing ive ever heard. watch federer. even on the open stance his right foot is never in front. you get no rotation in your body.

  • Great job ajkim90... You call something the dumbest thing you've ever heard, then completely support it using the best forehand in the history of tennis to support "the dumbest thing [you've] ever heard."

Ever heard people say "you just contradicted yourself"? Well... Yeah, you pulled it off...

And you would still get rotation, you'd just miss the only useful part of it unless you time it right.

And Federer had a better forehand then than he does now. Same with Nadal oddly enough.

  • Oh oops, you were replying to someone else's stupid statement. My bad...

And he got it wrong... Open stance doesn't take time away and allow you to transition, quite the opposite actually. It allows you to hit a shot with less setup (meaning you have less time) and recover back to the center (if you use angular momentum).

Right foot never forward for righties on the setup. On the finish, it's okay, but not on the setup.

  • There are actually rare cases where the right foot can actually be in front, but you don't do it by choice. It happens on wide balls (generally short, wide ones) where you do it to cut off the angle. Think of a short wide slice serve. If you want to return it effectively, you will go in and to the side instead of straight to the side right? The result is you might have the right foot in front, but you hit it as if it was an open stance forehand with the baseline at an angle.

  • Think of Pete's running forehand at an angle. By chance, the right foot will sometimes end up closer to the net as a result of running at an angle to retrieve a short wide ball (that doesn't have much pace on it).

Still, it's a rare case and should not be used in a standard rally since it will screw up your timing and rotation. Maybe even your balance because it feels so funny doing in a regular baseline rally...

It's better to actually ignore these rare cases altogether.

  • this video's great for watching his footwork. excellent stuff.

  • so good too watch this in order to improve your game.

  • pfff gonzalez for the win.

  • nice compilation, thanks.

  • so all in all have your opposite foot in front when you take the shot and stay relax

  • ya that'll get you real far...............

  • Great storkes. I agree.

  • very nice storkes

  • lol you placed in some forehands where he badly lost balance haha. But still pretty good video anyway

  • Şimdiye kadar gördüğüm en güzel federer in klasik forehand vuruş örnekleri :)

  • those are some nice storkes!

  • lol

  • EXCELLENT!!

He is the perfect example about the tennis technics!(I know many are good as well)

I hope to be able to view more videos on those points!

  • nice work editing this together - thanks

  • dude one of the best videos of federer ive seen

  • Can't say that about the spelling.

  • Hahahaha
