  • If you want to do latin rhythms this is the video to get. although I found it to be in the advanced category, the beginner probably won't catch on immediately. but, you won't be disappointed like with 'some' drumming tutorial videos.

I watch this video at least once per month. this is mind boggling independence on the foot pedals. I just watched it today in fact.

I'd like to see more in the slow down/explanation categories. but this is not beginner stuff really it's more advanced.

    thanks Phil

  • i see it as more as adding an ancient middle eastern element to the afirican drums, the cymbal...

  • ¡¡¡ EXCELENTE ¡¡¡

  • his book has really inspired me to learn more latin.. thx phil.. =)

  • i am really looking for c.d.s or songs in this style with a drum set players hopefully to learn from or to play along with any suggestions? thanx much

  • sos un groso broder...saludos desde cordoba, argentina.

  • Hey man,i was noticing, your cowbell playing with the left foot is a little bit sloppy from times to times...

I dont know if you noticed and consider this a problem, but im facing the problem of having endurance with the left foot and keep perfect time...

Anyway, keep the great drumming,im learning a lot from you.

    Bye!

  • how would you set up the symbols? Do you need the triangle shape between the ride and high hat?

  • Awesome!!!!!

  • yeah Pearl rules!

  • I love the sound of MMX, my drums are also Pearl MMX... But, this kind of sound it's only achieved when a "perpetual student" ;-) like yourself actually hit them!

  • Excellent drumming and explanations. Do you have any recommended listenings for someone trying to learn this style of music?

  • HI Micheal. Try Muñequitos de Matanza, NG La Banda, Afro cuban all stars, Tito Puente, Ray Barreto...ufff there are so many great ones! Start there:-)

    All the best

    PM

  • very good... but why not play the clave with foot with heel down.

  • why does foot position have anything to do with how to play a clave? You can play heel toe, or on the ball of your foot... That's just like asking, "why play afrocuban drumming matched grip instead of classical grip?"

  • heel down is suitable for lower tempos. i think this one it's supposed to played with heel up due to the moderate tempo.

  • Why not? If it feels good.

  • @BayonneNick i don't see why this comment go so many thumbs down - it's just a technique thing... i find that playing heel down gives you alot more control.. though it can be difficult to discipline yourself to always playing heel down.

  • Cool introduction. Intresting for me because im Swedish so i couldnt be less latin if i tried. haha

  • you and me both bro. ehe!

  • great video ~v~

  • Thanks Derbeno

    Pm

  • Nice production. Good info even for those of us born with the clave in their blood. Thank you!
