  • Viva Shura!! A great, unique pianist. a Wizard of the Keyboard.

  • Superb playing as we would expect from this distuinguished pianist; however the final product lacks that last ounce of polish to make it a real memorable experience - also it is taken at a somewhat liberal tempo which I think misses several musical requirements akin to playing Tschaikovsky (even via transcription) - I liken this performance to a text book version before the learned Ponti.

  • Indeed, unbelievable how Shura played. I heard him many times in Amsterdam, and every recital was something to remember. Actually Shura was already 82 at the time of this 80th birthday recital, as his parents falsified his birthdate, as he discovered later. He recorded the Pabst paraphrase also for Nimbus in the 80-ties, which has even a better sound quality

  • Thank you violim, Shura was the GREATEST pianist that ever lived for all time, greater than Lizst even....sheer lyricism and virtuosity that only the Soviets (I think he was a Ukranian) can command. The playing here is simply mind-blowing!

  • masterpiece!!! Shura = great great great pianist!
