Just Watched the vid. Great combination of subtle and attack lead styles. I've just bought this guitar on ebay but have't had a chance to play it yet. Awsome demo dude!!!
@shootergalin13 No, a factory installed Floyd would have been cool but I don't have the heart to hack in to this high end guitar. I wouldn't hesitate to do it on an old beat up axe though.
When you drown a guitar in effects as I and many players often do, it's hard to tell one from another. I've never played a SG but Gibsons and Fenders do have different tones. I think mainly because of the humbucker vs single coil sound. This model does have a humbucker in the bridge position so I would think that you could tweak settings to get a SG sound.
Mr. Leeds, You have them set right. I have spent a day with them up & down. They sound best set that way. I am definitely digging the tone you are getting on the tracks. I do a Van Halen thing myself, but this guitar is for my other side. You play amazing & have great feel brother, AMEN & Rock that guitar, Keep me posted !
Great Playing Brother, I have the same guitar & Love it. I was just wonder how high you have the pickups adjusted to the Strings. I have my pretty low to compensate for the pull ...
Haven't played with the adjustment yet. They happen to be set low at the neck and high at the bridge. That's probably backwards. I'll give a listen. Gotta change my nasty strings first. Thanks for watching,
opps I was trying to reply to one of the posts with my lst post,. I love your playing, straight from the heart!. I found this post because im researching the mahogany hss strat. my house got broken into and I lost my american standard :(
Bummer man! Happy guitar hunting. I love my magony strat. It's weak points are staying in tune when using the tremelo and lack of substain. It plays and sounds great though.
just so you know the american special is actually a deluxe, check your serial number....I bet it starts with dz ,the difference is the deluxe come with SCN (Samarium Cobalt Noiseless) the mahogany special has 2 custom-staggered Tex-Mex single-coil pickups (wound hot to compensate for the humbucker) and a Diamondback humbucker. but you get a way nicer case with the deluxe
Right u r. The next time I change strings I'm going to try wrapping them around the tunning pegs a couple of times to see if that helps it stay in tune. My thery is that when you don't wrap them. theres a sharp bend in the string that doesn't settle back in the same way when using the tremelo. We'll see.
Are the pots clean? I've been researching a little bit but haven't fount anything. Also- you said it won't stay in tune with the tremelo. I'm assuming you mean going up with it and not down, but I'm just gonna ask. Does it stay in tune going down?
If by clean pots you mean no static or noise then yes they are quiet and funtion very well. If you string it the way the directions say it goes out of tune just looking at the whammy. If I position the tunning peg eye an a 90 degree angle when I string it, it stays in tume MUCH better.
I have this guitar too and I put the tuning peg at a 90 as well. I also wrap the string once around just to be safe. I love this guitar though!! What a tone machine! I was lucky and got my at GC for 999 on sale. Now it's 1350, and I've seen them go as high as 1600...
yeah I have one of those guitars.... it's totally awesome. That lead was pretty sweet.... what do you have that plugged into... seemed like those harmonics were just popping out like nothing.... lot pretty low treble high mid sound... I've been getting into that sound more and more. How do you like the humbuckers on that guitar... I think it may be the one thing I change.... they're kinda noisy on mine.
is that the american special mahogony? those are sick. i just bought one. i love those. you can go from clapton to ac dc, and it does both fantastic! just cant play death metal =D
That was freaking awesome... great..well played ...not a million notes crammed into a 4 beat measure.... that was great stuff....I'll take feeling and tone anyday compared to speed anyday....
Hello! what keys are you using? thanks

@shootergalin13 It's okay for light vabrato but soesn't recover well from heavy use.

would you pick it again over an american deluxe with nice woodgrain?
puffdragon26 3 years ago
I didn't play the American deluxe as I was in love with the look, feel, and price of the Mahogony special to test them both.

Cool stuff ! Seems that the guitar stays in tune even without a locking system. That is perfect. The locking always cuts the tone a little.
mikeposs 3 years ago
actually the mahogany strats have a locking tremolo, it is basicly an american deluxe with tex/mex neck and middle pickup and a dh-1 bridge humbucker
