  • >> better to have a kubotan and not need it than not have a kubotan and need it <<

better to have a kubotan and use it as a glas breaker if necessary than not have a kubotan and forced to use the own head as a glass ram :-)

  • Brutal, painful, and one more word. EFFICIENT!! I like it :)

  • Which kubotan should I choose: flat or pointed? greets

  • whats wrong with a knife?

  • Just got one today!

  • damn that riff at the opening is sick!!!

  • Thanks Sifu. BTW, seems the moves demonstrated can also be applied with a weapon at hand. Nevertheless, a Kubotan adds an extra edge.

  • any videos with the kubotan with spikes?

  • That looked thoroughly painful.

    Nice demo.

  • Thanks for the video. I was wondering about the pressure lock... does the defender have to step back with the leg opposite to the grip, or would same side work also?

  • In our country, if you fight using Kubotan, for the law you have used a weapon and you go in the jail. It' s the same for pepper spray for selfdefense that you can buy, but you cannot use in fighting. In Italy the law is a shit, so to use the kubotan or to use a knife is more or less the same in a tribunal.

  • damn. that looked extremely painful and real. Very good demonstration. You can tell that Master Tim, applied full force to his partner.

  • Hmmm, I bet I could apply this to Modern Arnis or other FMAs

  • The Kubaton is the only concealed weapon thats legal to carry in this country. I know this for a fact, because I am a Police Officer AND an Martial Arts Instructor.

  • @ktlucy "..The Kubaton is the only concealed weapon thats legal to carry in this country..."???. Huh? What country are you talking about? In the US, States set their own laws for concealed weapons and if you check around you'll find that Vermont, Alaska and Arizona allow the concealed carry of a handgun with no license requirement.

  • @ktlucy "this country"?

  • @ktlucy

Bullshit, what country do YOU live in? Guess I'm busted for carrying a pocket knife now? Haven't you ever heard of a license to carry a concealed weapon Mr. Officer? Hell take the course and you can carry a fully loaded concealed firearm in several states.

  • @kagebushln what are you gonna do, shoot anyone that tries to jump you?

  • @ktlucy what state are you from, because i live in ohio, and bought kubotans for my parennts.....i dont want them to get in trouble

  • Excellent demo well presented and easy to follow. Do you do a DVD at the moment?

  • ok i have a plastic type Kubotan.

im not planning to get a spiked one

    i know thats illigal.

but, are wooden and metal kubotan also illigal or not?

  • a baseball bat is not illegal is it but can do far more damage. Just keep the kubotan on your keyring and if anyone ever bothers you about it play dumb and say you thought it was just a cool looking keychain. Most things are not illegal until they are used in very specific ways and almost every time it requires "intent". If you play dumb and maintain you only thought it was a keychain you never had intent under the law to use it as a weapon. Bottom line is, i wouldn't worry about it.

  • i've got an aluminium kubotan and its legal in germany..

when a plastic kubotan is legal in USA, then i think a wooden or metal one is also legal.

    just ask someone ;P

  • @CBR133T I always carry a metal kubotan. As far as I know they are legal everywhere in the USA. The only exception being on an airplane. The FAA specificaly lists "kubatons[sic]" on their list of prohibited items. But a mini maglight flashlight would work in a pinch as a kubotan. There isn't any rules against carrying a flashlight on a plane.

  • @purplemutantas they are legal , california is iffy on that- but yea

  • @purplemutantas sadly they are illegal in TN :(

  • i have a small aluminum kubotan. I feel alot better walking home with my kubotan than my pocket knife just for the simple fact that I look more innocent in court in case I need to use self defense. Also, I've noticed that most knife techniques learned in martial arts also can apply to use of your kubotan

  • Good moves :) I think I'll get me one of these, they are small, easy to hide and effective.

  • Just make one. I cut a rectangle out of a children's board I once broke, and cut the top and bottom into the shape of a four-cornered pyramid. I sanded that down a bit, then used a utility knife to cut a grip into it. Light, easy to make, and innocent looking.

  • good actor D:

  • I don't think he's an actor, I think he's a master of Kung Fu and he knows what he's doing. There's no acting in this art unless you're using it for theater.

  • Awesome.

  • This is good to know. Crime is rising where I live.

  • Kubatans rock ... I have loads of different ones. Legally, in the uk, you can't carry them around. However they are cheap[ tp buy so if you need to throw it away afterwards you can. :o)

  • actually, only the pointed and hollow ones containing a spike are illegal to carry. straight ones are fine to carry. :)

  • u can carry them round if there on ur keys, one of my m8s is a copper n i asked her what the law on them is and she said there only classed as a weapon when there not on ur keys!!!!

  • @englishnbloodyproudo Basically don't admit to it being a kubotan, just say "its a key ring" mine is brightly coloured so I can say "it helps me find my keys when its dark" so as long as its on your keys its made as a key ring, hasn't been in any way adapted since it left the factory and isn't intended to cause harm because its just a keyring. Its there for not an offensive weapon.

  • better to have a kubotan and not need it than not have a kubotan and need it!!!!

  • @RedJellyable I follow the same philosophy with a handgun and a kubaton makes a good addition to that.

  • @RedJellyable Yep, that's why I always carry one with me, wherever I go!

  • very cool to see i must buy that kubotan, too. because i searched an inproved weapon to self defence me cause a few days earlyer i got knocked down from an idiot. He fight against children from my batminton club and i must help them. At the end i had a bloody nose and my face hurt. Now its in a few days training and when he comes and want to fight against children or at me i can help the kids better. thank you! :)

  • You really don`t need to buy the `kubotan` brand product. A thin wooden dowel, bought at the hardware store works exactly the same. Same goes for pens, and pens are allowed everywhere. Heck, buy a metal cased pen for three dollars.

  • Kubotans are great...they concentrate a HUGE amount of force in a small area when used for striking and may be used as a lever for joint manipulations.

Mine is about 7 inches long and 5/8" round. It's aluminum alloy and my "lil baby" :)

  • Jesus. Christ.

I take Tae-Kwon-Do, and I can imagine the extra power onna these babies would inflict.

    MUST. BUY. NOW.

  • Nice acting by the guy in black. :D Thx for the technique.

  • i got one a little while back and my instructers are or Tae Kwon Do and they haven't really learned this specific weapon. so i have just been using it as if it wasn't there, like i would and other technique and the tip of it was just another joint and the rest for fist supression. thx for the vid and God Bless.

  • I'm 4' 10" and ride public transportation. I'll be getting one soon!

  • A Mag-Lite that holds 2 AA batteries makes a good Kubaton.

  • Very nice video. I think I might invest in one of these. I doubt there's anywhere you could hit where it wouldn't hurt like hell.

And also useful for your keys!

  • That looked like it hurt, that strike to the temple.

  • It would if you really drilled someone like Tim is showing.

  • you can actually kill someone if you hit hard enought

  • Well, its great to found kubotan lesson videos on youtube :) I will buy kubotan soon.

  • That was pretty awesome, I like how he actually showed the "how-to" stuff.

  • Thanks. We liked how the footage came out.

  • finally a how-to that shows us what to do. i saw another here but it was too fast and acted out, not showing proper strikes. thanks for the video

  • Thats the beauty of a kubotan though. A how to is useful, but even without it you can be pretty effective. ANY method of employing a hammerfist or knifehand can translate to a useable strike with a kubotan.

  • are these things legal to buy

  • yes

  • Yeah they are legal but you're meant to be over 18 to buy one :)

  • Hmm... A Mini Mag Lite is certainly legal to buy and carry. And fairly sturdy...

  • @SanSooJedi I am eventually learning how to use these, just got my black belt, really turned me onto the factor of small weapons. Nun-chuck, koma, bowstaff, nothing like this, it is so small and painful. Great video Master Tim Francis.

  • good demonstration

  • want one!

  • cool!
