Arma 2 was awesome compared to their previous games, but has alot of flaws, and way too many missing features that make the game feel like it's missing something.
Also, the game makes you feel like your $1000 dollar laptop is a potato when you're running it.
@killerdudecris I don't care how nice a laptop is, it's never really made for gaming. They will always have slow-down over time and they just aren't good for gaming even if it is a "gaming laptop." I have a relatively slow computer and I have no problem handling it with everything full except for draw distance. That is unless I have a ton of AI. The new Arma coming out will basically add a lot of needed things for this game. It will be more like a game but still be a simulator.
@itzkolpi Coming out around Summer 2012, but they have some videos up for it. It's Arma 2 with a lot of emphasis on missing elements such as physics and control fluidity with commands. They also did a lot of work on adding more things to do. Pretty much Arma 2 with a lot more spunk!

@miguel92996 Many nukes have been made, it's completely possible. I mean to make a game with nukes that actually reenact what a nuke would do in even close to a scale. Hardware doesn't accomplish that although yes, it would require lots of very powerful hardware. It's actually being able to program that. It's the same concept of people looking for destructibility in games and the truth is it really isn't ready yet even though they do it. The optimization isn't quite there.
@BBrtqB A duel core 2.0 ghz means it has two cores running at the speed of 2.0 ghz... it doesn't combine the two, that would be multithreading which really hasn't been done to full effect as of yet. So it's not combined together, it's sorta running separate.

@BBrtqB No, it won't run on a single core processor, and they aren't good at making anything about 4ghz stable. Multiple cores allow for resources to be divided and run on separate cores to ease the stress on the cpu.

@Gunnanator well thats what the game does. there multiple scripts and files that run concurrently in the game that check and calculate certain parameters and physics, dual core allows the possiblity to run the physics script on one, and maybe particle effects on the other, making it easier to process both at the same time.

@TheBlueLepercon Whats your Proccessor and Memory, also, Re-Format your harddrive and reinstall windows. If you cannot run Crysis on max with that card, Its your other components dragging you down. I.E. If you had multiple 5850's, loads of RAM, but a Pentium4 Single Core proccessor (extreame) you wouldn't be able to run Crysis at all. Swap the Pentium4 for a Phenom2 X4, and you would be totaly fine.

the games graphics are good and all, but the audio is horrible, when you make an order it sounds like a jumbled mess of voice recordings. Also, there is no variables in what happens with the audio, for example the waves in the back round of this video, just the same constant swishing sound.

Obviously you know nothing about computing and this arma 2 shit is so unoptimized you need a super computer to run it, not because it looks better which it dosent.
I ran it maxed out on a 2.0 ghz dual core, nvidia 8800, 4gigs of ram on a 939 pin board. I suppose "super computers" are very common these days. Arma 2 is a CPU heavy game and Crysis is a graphics card heavy game. It's funny you mention that though. Even on high end computers Crysis runs like shit. You're talking about a tech demo.

A couple people have done little movie clips from ArmA 2 that are okay. The only thing about the CoD 4 nuke is that since it is scripted, the event will not change whatsoever so once you see it, nothing new will come of it.

Now all it needs is the radioactive sound from Stalker and a timed area affect (dissipates over time) from the blast that plays the sound if you enter it.

So your saying that the large amounts of buildings that are completely made from props are better? The ones that can be obliterated by one grenade? This game runs off of far less props, the environment is larger, with more versatility and option by means of transportation, hundreds of vehicles and weapons, some of the most variety of trees that look spectacular, and so forth. Crysis was a tech demo, at least ArmA had to damn curtosy to release VBS2 first to show their tech.
Oh, and those "Great explosions" you mentioned are mostly scripted. They take almost nothing to run and aren't impressive as I have previously stated. This game runs it all, it's all real time, it's all there, it's not some bullshit script to tell it what to do.

crysis has no aircraft comparatively tiny maps, no artillery and not even approaching the number of units this game can handle. Also Arma 2 is a sim, Crysis is an Arcade shooter.
@cometz13 Still a small map, 1200km2 is normal for mod maps in Arma 2(I have seen 67,000km2 but that's unnecessarily huge), and by Aircraft I meant like Fighter planes and stuff. But yes two very different but very good games (woot Crysis 2)
If you want to judge a game, at least take the time to play it. The fact that you are watching a video that isn't even full quality of a nuke ported from the original Arma and trying to stir some crap is ridiculous. The engine supports much more then Crysis can, and all these scripted explosions people make for the game are not impressive whatsoever. The game looks and handles much better then Crysis, while everything can be taken out, shot down, or anything related.
Tanks, helicopters, Artillery, Jets, Nukes, Mission Editor, Night/Day cycle, Sky constellations that are all accurate, richochets, Open world, you can do whatever the hell you want in this. It's the game.
You should be okay. The only thing about the ram, you usually want to run matched ram that comes in the same package because otherwise it will actually run slower.
I ran it on an 8800 and a 2.0ghz dual core just fine.
3 gb or ram is fine, even 2gb. I was just saying that if you ever update your ram again, get a set out of the same package, because 3 gb of unmatched ram is actually slower then 2gb of matched.

@TheBlueLepercon Whats your Proccessor and Memory, also, Re-Format your harddrive and reinstall windows. If you cannot run Crysis on max with that card, Its your other components dragging you down. I.E. If you had multiple 5850's, loads of RAM, but a Pentium4 Single Core proccessor (extreame) you wouldn't be able to run Crysis at all. Swap the Pentium4 for a Phenom2 X4, and you would be totaly fine.
GPU isn't the most important part in gaming.

the games graphics are good and all, but the audio is horrible, when you make an order it sounds like a jumbled mess of voice recordings. Also, there is no variables in what happens with the audio, for example the waves in the back round of this video, just the same constant swishing sound.

The only things that ArmA 2 lacks are:
1) Real Time Physics (for death animations of foot soldiers, vehicle animations are fantastic).
2)The ability to go into buildings
3)Good driving AI (although the offensive and defensive AI is fantastic)
There are one or two more but i cannot remember tham at the moment.

I ran it maxed out on a 2.0 ghz dual core, nvidia 8800, 4gigs of ram on a 939 pin board. I suppose "super computers" are very common these days. Arma 2 is a CPU heavy game and Crysis is a graphics card heavy game. It's funny you mention that though. Even on high end computers Crysis runs like shit. You're talking about a tech demo.

this game has these things that no other game (except for arma 1) has
1. mods that can be made and easily downloaded
2. amazing graphics
3 realistic richocheys and balistics
4. real time weapon swapping
5. real time day/nite cycle with realistic moon shining
6. weapons modelled with perfect acuracy and almost perfect hand placement on the weapons
7. able to see the bolt in m16/m4a1 go back and forward.
etc etc etc any one who has played this game knows the whole MILE LONG list.

A couple people have done little movie clips from ArmA 2 that are okay. The only thing about the CoD 4 nuke is that since it is scripted, the event will not change whatsoever so once you see it, nothing new will come of it.

Arma wins this fight, Crysis cant hold a candel to arma, sure crysis might look better graphically, but arma looks better in the whole.
1: You can see farther, IE, snipe from farther.
2: 95% of the buildings can be entered and used.
3: The amount of vegitation all over, and how decent the quality is.

Now all it needs is the radioactive sound from Stalker and a timed area affect (dissipates over time) from the blast that plays the sound if you enter it.
Also, the smoke should be blacker.

So your saying that the large amounts of buildings that are completely made from props are better? The ones that can be obliterated by one grenade? This game runs off of far less props, the environment is larger, with more versatility and option by means of transportation, hundreds of vehicles and weapons, some of the most variety of trees that look spectacular, and so forth. Crysis was a tech demo, at least ArmA had to damn curtosy to release VBS2 first to show their tech.

crysis has no aircraft comparatively tiny maps, no artillery and not even approaching the number of units this game can handle. Also Arma 2 is a sim, Crysis is an Arcade shooter.

it has aircraft (helicopters, jets), and you can build a own map how you want with all from editing water,trees,vehicles and tornados. ( 50 km2)
Crysis is much more optimized, and therefore it's EASIER to handle more NPC's or units.
But I'm not saying Arma is bad, just saying that should have optimized and redefined the game before releasing it.

@cometz13 Still a small map, 1200km2 is normal for mod maps in Arma 2(I have seen 67,000km2 but that's unnecessarily huge), and by Aircraft I meant like Fighter planes and stuff. But yes two very different but very good games (woot Crysis 2)

If you want to judge a game, at least take the time to play it. The fact that you are watching a video that isn't even full quality of a nuke ported from the original Arma and trying to stir some crap is ridiculous. The engine supports much more then Crysis can, and all these scripted explosions people make for the game are not impressive whatsoever. The game looks and handles much better then Crysis, while everything can be taken out, shot down, or anything related.

You should be okay. The only thing about the ram, you usually want to run matched ram that comes in the same package because otherwise it will actually run slower.
I ran it on an 8800 and a 2.0ghz dual core just fine.
