  • Zeitgeist movement... sounds like religion to me.

  • Venus project and Zeitgeist movement-they're solutions.

  • i love god and BR... just saying

  • Greg Graffin for President 2012!!!!!

  • I would like to ad,

There are two type of BR fans, those that enjoy the music and those that enjoy the wisdom. G-D bless!

    Join the zeitgeist movement.

  • @redaeredoc Fuck yeah venusproject it seems theres new follower everyday (:

  • This song brings comfort to my soul, even more today then when it was first released. Im 39 yrs old, BR has been with me for 28 yrs of my life. Greg graffin is a friend of mine. Greg is a spiritual guy. Religion is controlled by powerful evil institutions that for thousands of years committed the most unimaginable crimes against humanity, executions, rape, deception and suppression, Yet they still exist today and will continue to exist as long as they own your mind and soul.

    End the vatican.

  • you can believe in God without believeing in religion

  • baring the cross of being an atheist.

  • God save us from religion!

  • he said "anthropocentric"! that makes me happy in a nerd way.

bad religion just kicks so much ass.

  • I don't think so, he's up there with the others laying low!

  • Dear Punk Rock Fans,

Please stop arguing amongst one another

    Signed,

    Some Asshole

  • religion is thw worst plague in the world!!!!

    sorry bad english lol

  • c'est désormais en moi, tout comme toi Jo!!

  • Religion is a way poeple together think

  • I adore the original version but I have to say it sound so much better acoustic. It's beautiful.

  • Still one of my favorite bad religion songs because of the great lyrics.

  • amazing song

  • Amazing(:

  • can u reupload the song cuz megaupload took it off.....or email it to me =D

  • @xXBr4ndonDXx

You could just, buy the bumber pack of The New Maps Of Hell.

i had to work overtime to pay for my New Maps of hell cd.

  • @rorrt it's not the same version as the American CD. I have the original and the DVD version of New Maps of Hell :/

  • This is their best acoustic song, along with Do What You Want.

  • In addition, Brett Gurewitz himself is not an athiest. He is a provisional deist, which means that he believes in a divine creator, but puts no faith in organized religion or the text of the Bible.

The statement in that particular song means that he does not believe in the conventional representation of God in religious theology. The lyrics do not expressly deny the existence of a supreme being.

  • That makes sence, If I were to belive in god, it would be a deistic god, that he created the world but there was no miraculas intervention. There are people of religion who belive in evolution but they keep religious faith and scientific reason seporete. I dont belive in god, but I'm openminded to the idea that god could have sparked evolution then let nature take it's corse, but not in a theistic way.

  • @CivilEngTech The lyrics even mentions more than just one supreme being besides God. They compete with "those who you've traded your life to bless your soul". That's meaning priests and religious leaders I guess and would fit with Blake at beginning but end of this song it confuses me cause this culture of efficiency -thing (doesn't he sing "cultural eff.") sounds really ugly to me. Austere. But it is the common ground since religion lost its legitimation? Who does he actually mean at the end?

  • I agree that "those who've you traded your life to bless your soul" is referring to religious leaders, but the song only mentions a singular god.

The end of the song sounds ugly to me too. I think he is implying that religious division is hindering human progress, and if we continue along the path of sectarian violence, then we are headed toward self-destruction.

  • Re: conceptualanarchist

Yes; Greg Graffin is an athiest, but he prefers the term "naturalist" because it does not have the inherent negative connotation that the word "athiest" does.

Regarding the song lyrics you misquoted, the song "Do What You Want" states "I'll believe in God when 1 and 1 are 5", not 3 as you stated. It should also be noted that "Do What You Want" was written by Brett Gurewitz, not Greg Graffin.

  • The "impasse we have reached to our future" is the remnants of mysticism.

  • Jonathan..... it's funny, you sing just like this guy! i mist you.....

  • Bad raligion, YEAH!!

  • This is such a great song. My favorite of bad religion. They come to Hawaii every 2 years and I never miss them. Oh and by the way Greg is not an atheist he's a naturelist. And to all those with nothing nice to say. Don't say anything at all. Live in the world you created for yourself.

  • LOL, what?

  • Because he feels that church goers have been deprived of the truth for far too long. Call it a public service. And as far as god is concerned, I think that particular individual has obviously excluded themselves from the human process entirely. So, as a result, you may feel free to use your own thinking from here on out. You can consider that a public service as well.

  • Why does greg play at churches?

  • In reality, isn't he atheist?

  • he's a "naturalist" according to him lol

  • lol. I wonder what the hell that means. I think that can still follow under the atheism category, because I am pretty sure he doesn't believe in a god. "I will believe in a god when 1 and 1 are 3."

  • Why do people ALWAYS fight in bad religion videos? STFU and enjoy the damn song! You're interrupting BR's awesomeness.

  • @HatedAlways The retard comments don't get thumbs up, so eventually they get lost in oblivion, and honestly, who reads more than the first page of comments?

  • @MicrowavedBacon .. yes, youtubes comment ratings and subsequent 'best of' is a blessing..

  • @HatedAlways rofl. good point: "You're interrupting BR's awesomeness." totally made my day!! : )

  • @HatedAlways its cause Bad Religion makes people think

and some people don't like thinking

  • Think for yourself? First of all Greg plagerized William Blake in the verse of this song. It goes "And did those feet in ancient times walk on Englands mountanous green". And its about Milton. I played with B.R. back in 94 and I asked Greg why he didn't give Blake the glory for writing this? He didn't answer me and the we never played with em again. Don't get it twisted mI love BR but hes just a man like any of us..

  • He's trying to say that religion dose not wont us to think for our selves. Christianity is the worst, they are agienst any intellectual or scientific thaught, take ray comfert ( the bannana man)kirk camoren, pat robertson and the intelligent design movement. Greg Graffin supports science!

  • he didn't plagarize William Blake; he admitted to using Blake's verse as a tribute to him, as Greg admired him. regardless of what he said to you, he's gone on record stating this.

  • Emi,C,Emi,G,D .... better

  • The song is telling you to think for yourself :O and religion prevents that. We must think in our evolving society. Human rights are evolving faster than peoples' views on their own religion and that creates problems. If people thought about their own religion, then there would be less problems as they could reconcile old ideas with new ethical advancements.

  • religion is cool..but bad religion is much better :D:D keep on rocking guys

  • This song rocks.

  • He didn't say it to put there faith into test

  • religion's just synthetic frippery.

  • @megenthal

    unnecessary

  • @megenthal Wow...that's original.

  • jesus is dead and sux

  • jesus is lord and savior.

  • Hey help me to bring Bad Religion to the UK all you punk fans out there!

  • How can I help?! I want it to happen so fuckin' much!

  • The minimum you can do is to sign my online petition (it's a video comment to sign) but if you wish to help me even more there's alot more you could do. Spreading the word is essential, so tell everyone you know in person and over the internet.

  • You're Wrong When God Said You will surley Die he ment You're Spirt would die and that would be the punishment God cannot tell a lie he is perfect in all ways Jesus defended God because Satan is The Father of Lies. He attacks you by your brain and confuses the way you think about our Messiah.

  • God can't lie? Then why did he tell Adam and Eve that when they ate from the tree of wisdom, they'd die (Which they didn't)? In fact, wouldn't that make him the FIRST liar? The true owner of original sin? Why wasn't GOD the one kicked out of paradise?

  • And if he meant their spirit would surely die...why the hell didn't he just say that? There's a clear difference between the two.

  • Read Genesis 2 and 3 and youll see where your statement is incorrect. God said they will surely die and it is obvious that this meant they will eventually die. Adam did eventually die did he not? The eating of the fruit brought a curse upon mankind which was death and temporary seperation from God. We still have that small amount of time on earth to make a decision to follow Christ or not. Its a free gift.

  • @ mtber714, or burden if you think about it....

  • you know what i find funny about you christians? You choose what's methaphorical and what's not.

If i was a christian, i think i would take it literally

  • this is a great song, and bad religion is the greatest punk band in the world...

fuck politics, religion(s), leaders, social groups...

just be yourself... it's all about that... isn't it?

  • Comment removed

  • It is said in scripture if you dont follow god YOu're following Satan

  • The same God that said? "for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

    The same Satan that said?

"And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:"

God lied to Adam, Satan told Eve the truth.

God made Satan perfect, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty Ezekiel 28:12-19

But Satan didn't like God's lying ass, so God punished him for pride and wanting His throne.

Jesus defended his murderer and called Satan the father of lies, john 8:44

    Crazy ass fairy tales!

  • Bad Religion isn't Satanic. Not even close. They're humanist-atheists.

  • Naturalists actually, but either way they aint satanics so huraah for defending BR

  • I wouldn't say "they are". Greg is a naturalist.

  • Isnt hate a sin in the eyes of your so-called God? I'm no expert, but i'm pretty sure you're not supposed to hate people.

  • So true !

All those so called god-lovers who hates everybody and everything are sooooo wrong !

The real hell is their pityful lives ...

  • great fuckin punk

  • yeah thats sow good

  • if you have at least half of a hand....theres never something better to do......than jack off.......unless you have a girl

  • this is the first time i heard this song. i love it. greg is amazing

  • Greg Graffin is the man who is doing something with his one shot at life. He has made it to the top of Maslow's Heiarchy of needs and he is changing the way of human thought one song at a time.

He has inspired me more than anyone else has. =]

  • chords should be: intro (begins at 0:00) ECEDB ECEDB ECEGF# verse (begins at 0:14) ECE[GF#]DBEGF# ECE[GF#]DBEGF# chorus (begins at 0:32) DECEGF# DB[GF#]

    ECEDB

    E

    is that correct? hmm.

  • ii dont get the bracket stuff

  • If you listen carefully, Greg plays those chords I wrote in brackets, but those are not played in the original CD version, that's why they are in brackets.

  • Hi, I was searching for Tab oc this acoustic version for a long time. I played it ECEGD at the intro but this was wrong I think. Your Chords fit totaly in if I play it along with the song. Also thought that it must be played in "half-step-down-tuning", but that was also false! :) Regular tuning and your Chords, perfekt. Thanks for posting/charing!

  • always a pleasure

  • douche bag

  • It's not strictly against religion, it also makes fun of people calling it "unnecesessary in our expanding global cultural efficiency" - there's quotation marks in the lyrics. Graffin likes the song a lot it seems, and it is in fact a very complete view on religion, and not a biased one actually. Great music as well.

  • could some explain to me what the lyrics of the song really mean

  • i think its saying like everybody in a religion is trying to tell you what they think is right, and believe only what they believe. its also saying to question it, and not be brainwashed. kind of like what all bad religion songs say when talking about religion, dont worship false idols, come up with your own belief system that fits what you think. but this is how i interpret it, it may not be the interpretation they were trying to get across. so sorry if that was not specfic enough or wrong.

  • "And did those feet in ancient times [sic]" is a reference to the English patriotic hymn Jerusalem, which posists that Christ walked on England in distant times. The song is a criticism of such mythology, and of religion in general. "Anthropocentric god", for instance, refers to man's tendency to fashion God in his own image. Similarly, it talks about religion's controlling power over others ("have they told you how to think, etc.). In other words, same old BR shtick, but still a good song.

  • NEED MORE OF THIS, DAMN! to me it doesnt matter what you believe, its about whats right and wrong. just how does one know, you must shut down your mind and open your hearts....

  • amo ese tema qe melancolia con qe la canta aguante greg y bad religion me emocionan

  • I love acoustic BR

  • great song.

  • God Song=Amazing!

    =]

  • More, more, more greg should do a whole album like this.

  • Check out American Lesion (it's got Cease I think) and also Cold as the Clay. It's a bit different, but if you like Greg's stuff you should love it, I know I do.

  • look up "cold as clay"

its greg graffins side project folk band

  • all songs i got something to say, but for this song is different it has outsmarted me......

  • Why the fuck do the imports get bonus songs?

  • Because Japanese CDs are ridiculously expensive.

  • like how much more expensive?

  • To: TheDeathSage I hit the spam when I meant reply. CDs when I was in Japan during the 90's cost around 20 to 50 bucks.

  • Damn man, that's a lot...note to self: don't buy a cd in japan...

  • des anyone know where i can get the mp3s for this and sorrow acoustic, they're impossible to find

  • anyone have the chords to this?
