Hancock likes to take a chord witn a strong major 7 interval between the top and bottom voices and walk it chromatically up and down, or step it up in minor thirds....

yeah these guys are good, but i kinda prefer this group with john and brian, then again..with them it sounds a lot like the wayne shorter quartet, but both of the groups are really killin.
