i've watched each star wars movie 1 time,i probably only have about 10 hours of D&D play time,cause my first dm gave up the game and since then i haven't been able to get a decent group to play but i easily have over 100hours spent making my own d&d system/version.i've beat ff2 about 15 times and played to almost the end before my brother accidentally saved over my file 20 times.so will that qualify me as a geek?

my favorite edition is very simple: ALL OF THEM.

What matters more to me is having fun with the guys at my table, which is what games are about period. Although I do find it funny that I've yet to find edition wars regarding WoD, L5R, HERO, Mutants & Masterminds, or any other multi-edition game i've played in the last 18 years. (WFRP being the sole exception, and even that's a stretch).

@akhitek WoD has had its Edition Wars. The Mage: The Ascension 2nd Edition vs Revised Edition were pretty heated back in the day. The nWoD vs oWoD wars were also pretty fierce.

I'm sort of an eternal DM, so job 1 for me (after reminding players that they can, in fact, be killed) is to make sure the party is having fun, regardless of system. You want to play 4e? Sure! Want to give Pathfinder a go? Let's go! Itching for some AD&D? That...may take me a bit, but sure! White Box Basic? Ok, now you're fucking with me.

Personally, i love playing pathfinder. 4e is fun in heroic tier, but after level 13-14 it simply becomes a numbers game. i like the 4e power system, but think it should be added to the pathfinder system, not replacing.

in 4th ed your attack rolls all scale to the mob's defenses, whereas in 3.5 or pathfinder the player actually starts to edge out an advantage toward later levels.

BTW, RPG stands for Role Playing Game, not Number Crunching Game... there should be more to it than just the numbers

All editions have their merit, and personally like each newer edition better than the last, and I started playing in 1978 with the pre-redbox pamphlet-books, and have played through all the various editions. I even love 4e.
