  • For my wheat farm i used pistons and redstone with a switch to spread the water.

Maybe you can do this too.

  • @hypnotizd are u sure they can grow down 1 block? I mean, you showed in the video that they can jump to a higher block, but can they do this same thing down?

  • @marcelo85765 Absolutely :) This video should show the mushroom farm working and if not, check out Part 4 where it is based on the fact that mushrooms can spread down. Later on in Part 6, I take advantage of mushroom spreading both directions and it significantly increases the output of the farm. But please note, after Beta 1.7.3, this farm no longer works. :( You can only have up to 5 mushrooms in a 9x9x3 area.

  • Now with pistons, I bet this would work out to full expectations! I'm just statrting on my Mushroom farm, and now will feed on this idea. Very cool. Love it.

  • @xxlonleyemoboyxx Before you waste your time, this method is broken in 1.8+. Mushrooms will only spread if there are less than 5 of the same color in a 9x9x3 area. It's quite sad :( You can use bonemeal on a mushroom that is sitting on dirt (with enough room around it) to grow into a giant mushroom which you can break and get near instantly about 15 mushrooms from.

  • @hypnotizd Dang :/ Well you had a really good method, I must say. But on the neat side I can grow them with bonemeal. But thanks for the heads up! :)

  • nice voice

  • thanks SO much! i have trouble understanding the lighting levels, i use redstone torches, and they make the farm REALLY dark, i didn't like that, so i'll be using some glowstone from now on (two blocks higher) :D

  • when you weren't playing you took off the torches right?

  • @IvoMiniMylk No, the torches always stayed. Always. If you are going to start going into "darker is better" please watch my video Part 8: Light Levels and Spread Rate /watch?v=fak3Uf21R60

  • @hypnotizd but mushrooms don't spawn in lighted places, do they reproduce in lighted places?

  • @IvoMiniMylk Did you watch the video? Mushrooms can spread in light level 12 or less. A torch is light level 14, and glowstone/sun is light level 15. So as long as the mushrooms and area where mushrooms spread to are two blocks away from a torch or three blocks away from glowstone/sun light they can grow just fine. There is no difference between complete darkness and light level 12 as far as spreading goes.

  • @hypnotizd ok, thanks :)

  • i really like your it nice it not bad? :D

  • You're not apost to use torches you're apost to use Redstone torch since they only grow in dark and not brightness...

  • @MrBlueberryMuffinman This is false information. Please watch Part 8: Light Levels and Spread Rate. /watch?v=fak3Uf21R60

  • @MrBlueberryMuffinman apost ??????

  • @NickPuleio (aw-PO-st)

  • @MrBlueberryMuffinman that is not a word ... do you mean "supposed to" ?

  • nice idea with the automatic thing:D

  • aw/toe/matic xD

  • I just found out that you actually have to be in game for them to grow. I guess it’s a precaution for people like me who leave it on for weeks at a time. I could see it now, one mushroom in a forest *two weeks go by* “What forest? All I see is shrooms!"

  • @madsith13 in multiplayers case, as long as one player has the chunk loaded time will pass and they will grow

  • Is it necessary to use dirt? They appear to grow on stone.

  • @madsith13 No, you can use any solid block materials you'd like! I liked the smooth stone/dirt look, personally.

  • @hypnotizd Thanks. I made my own farm without the water, and it’s turning out quite nicely… I need to expand it though. When you have your own server, do you have to actually be in the server for them to spawn?

  • @madsith13 I *think* the servers are constantly running. I basically only play single player so I'm not 100%.

  • This is brilliant :) You've helped me loads

  • when i place mushrooms next to eachother they get destroyed why is that?

  • @YxtreaM That would be because the first mushroom you put down is too close to a torch. When you place a mushroom next to it that block updates, it sees the light level is too high and then they uproot. Unless you mean they just go away and in that case you need to give more information!

  • @hypnotizd Thanks allot I fixed it now :)

  • You're like the mushroom scientist!

  • @sheepnote Can I be a mad scientist??? Muahaha~! ;)

  • @hypnotizd Yes; just get high on all these shrooms and you're good to go.

  • @hypnotizd Definitely the mad mushroom scientist. I really appreciate this mini-series on mushrooms.

  • @sheepnote A mycologist, you mean?

  • If I might make a suggestion, in your collection room you could have an empty channel that you would just take a ladder up to and place a source block, the channel would then run down to where the original spot you placed the source block is and flood the chamber. Then you could just take the block back ( you could have a pressure place load indicator to say when you should take it back .) This is if you wanted to have a completely closed system.

  • @thejay2012 Thats a good idea. I still have some cleanup to do on the system still but that will give this a more completed look. Thanks for the suggestion!
