The thigh muscle on some people dont go all the down to the knee. In other words, there isnt any genetic material there to develop. My thoughts are this type of squat looks interesting but the deep range through the knee joint cannot be good for ligaments, especially because bodybuilders now days tend to overestimate there leg strength so use heavier weights, and there is no functional need to strengthen in that range. well built leg muscles can be developed through common exercises like free leg extensions, power deadlifts, and proper range of motion squats with the feet at different widths.

This is not though on the knees. Think about it: you use "optimal" form, i.e. a regular squat, and put 300 lbs + on your back, or you do that exercise in which even just the barbell can be enough weight.
Back squats = great glute exercise.
This = quadriceps exercise = better knee stability from strengthened quadriceps.
Squatter's quads = very often with overdevelopped rectus femoris and underdevelopped vastus lateralis and vastus medialis. Sissy squats hit these last two like no other exercise.
good advice about using limited weight.i've done hindu squats using up to 65 pounds but i stopped do to stress on my lower back,so i guess i'll try again but with supported heels.
This is a fantastic exercise for really building the legs! Vince was never that interested in huge weights. He always worked the muscle strictly with isolation type exercises for a classic physique. Try this exercise on your next workout and you'll see how good it is!
i use to do them and your exactly right. it's one of the few exercises where i thought i might get sick and throw up before completing a set. it's brutal,not for sissies
