In our system, the pressure is weighted towards the stockholders - higher profits, lower costs - A company weighs what they would loose through lawsuits/payoffs to those injured against how much a recall would cost. The health and well being of the consumer is NOT in the equation. The PR budgets are far greater than what a company pays out for those injured. It will keep getting wor$e.

John Dean (of Watergate fame) in his book "Conservatives Without Conscience" explores how the personalities who are drawn to authoritarianism (either as leaders or as followers) have in the majority, aligned themselves with the right wing Republican movement.

I think that a Dictator is a key aspect of fascism - and although Dick Cheney did all he could to create an imperial presidency, democratic roots take a lot of digging to upend. Looking at the Iraq fiasco, the key failure was that of the press and the congress to expose the lies. 9-11 created a shell shocked public that did not want the hard questions asked. The propaganda painted anyone who questioned the actions of government as disloyal to America.

Do you actually know what liberalism is? I mean as a political doctrine. The founding fathers did not think to codify 'no parties' into the Constitution...which was a glaring error given the difficulties Adams had in even establishing the Declaration due to the 'whig' block in the Colonial Congress at the time.

I agree... The treaty of Versailes was a big cause and combined with the world depression it set the stage. WW I was a huge screw up on all sides. In any war, follow the money - who profits by it?
