got some lines from "preachin' blues" by robert johnson, "the blues ain't nothin but a low down shakin chill, if you ain't never had 'em hope you never will"
I read a book by Alan Lomax (who recorded this) and in it he said this song is the single greatest thing he ever recorded. If I remember right, moments after they ended this song, Son House's boss drove up and chewed him out for meeting with someone on his plantation without his permission. Now THAT is the blues.
sounds more like Robert Johnson; maybe I'm not listening to this piece close enough(to the lyrics); then again, you know Robert Johnson got his walking blues from Son House!
Son House w. Willie Brown - recorded at the Clack Grocery Store - they were 'paid' in a soda - Willie grabbed it, Son got zero. - The Clack sign is now in the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale, Ms. - the store was razed - there's now a highway there. - I still like THIS version more than the l930 one.

Taj Mahal does a cool version of this song. Love Son House though.

My God, look at that face and those hands. Listen to that voice and playing. The blues can be no more authentic than that.
