If you can believe it, they use to have a cop stationed all the time around that building because guys use to hang around there and get off because the wind coming off the building use to blow up the womens skirts. Also, the buildings back then where so low they said you could see the flatiron building from Central Park which is almost 40 blocks away. Today you can`t see more than a block. This is all before skyscrapers.
look how nice the ppl dressed then...woman looked like ladies, men looked clean and smart and the younger generations looked like they ACTUALLY cared about how they looked....

Great building! After hearing about it and seeing old photos I found it by accident on a recent trip to NYC. How everything around it has changed.

Was his last name Iron and became flat after the accident?

my great grandfather hurt himself pretty bad building the Flatiron. When I walk past it every time, I think of his contribution.

The last time I was there (2005) there was a Sprint mobile phone store on the bottom floor. Not sure if it's still there.

They wouldn't have been clean as people didn't bathe very often in those days.

wrong, there were others before it in New York and FACT is the Park Row Building was the highest skyscraper in NYC from 1899 to 1908
Park Row building has 30 floors and is 391feet high whereas the Flatiron building has 22 floors and is 285 feet high
For your info the Park Row Building still stands today in New York and people live in it too.
