I really loved this episode above all of the others in TOS, other than Balance of Terror, respectfully. However there was one thing that threw me off. Why is it that the Doomsday Machine looks like half of a turd flying through space?
Too cool OMG this is like the blast from the past . With all the bells and whistles .So you could call it your favorite oldies musle car with high tech gadgets of the 21st century!
Certainly a whole lot better than the original series. There were times you could actually see the wires holding up the Enterprise model. Even the effects on Lost In Space were superior than on the original Trek.
The vast majority of the Classic Trek shots used the larger 11 feet model of the Enterprise that was firmly bolted to the floor. The 3 foot model was also used in similar manner during the series. No Wires. I can't say for the smaller 3 foot model suspension in the Pilot, The cage. The model stayed still and the camera was manipulated. Also The CGI attack on the Planet killer is way too close and doesn't make with the dialog between Decker and Spock.
However, I agree with <commandox20> in that the idea to do a refurb on the old show was being kicked around when Star Trek The Next Generation first came on the air. I appreciate Daren Dochterman's work better, because it stayed true to the original scene work. They didn't get too creative. It bothers me to see a classic messed with. D.D. made the best improvements me thinks.
I doubt Daren was alone in his idea. The idea and urge to update the original series visuals was something felt as far back as the release of the first Trek Film. Its not a new idea, and you cannot "steal" an aged idea that many people have had. Its not a copyrighted idea, and on top of that Trek isn't owned by daren.

@RichardBullittBush It's not a turd, it's a vagina. Just like the Sarlacc pit.

@RichardBullittBush Because if it looked like a whole turd it woulda been silly?

Definitely the most intense of the original episodes, if not necessarily the best. Securely in the top three anyway. lol. Good job.
