I'll admit they had they elite system of Thier time I drooled over one for years and years but Thier was nooooo way my pearants were gonna buy me that ever!! No rent money for me. MAN I GREW UP IN THE 90S N EARLY 2000S IT WAS GREAT BAK THEN U ACTUALLY GO OUTSIDE TO A BOWLING ALLEY SUPER MARKET AND ACTULLY TALK SHIT TOO PPL AFTER U BEAT THEM IT WAS FUN NOW U CNT SEE THEM 599 pls tax and 200$ game cost is a deal breaker
man, neo geo was really ahead of its time with some of its ideas. i enjoyed a lot of the stuff snk did. glad their titles are coming back to an extent.
@TyRiders2, Quit bitchin, pawn your Snes and get yourself a Neo Geo so u can grow hair on your chest, Lol....I love the Snes brother but your have no idea what owning a Neo Geo is like so your not entitled to any silly ass comments....or atleast get a PC Engine which is right up there in the collectible and fascination department, you'll thank me later and feel free to ask me any questions
To the people saying everyone who had a SNES or a Genesis were poor losers, your mommy bought that shit for you not you your mom as our moms bought a SNES and a Genesis. Unless you were a rich little 8 year old that went out and bought the game yourself, You have nothing to gloat about. SNK like all companies don't care about you personally anyway.
@Bmon9468, I would have to disagree, games like Garou and plenty others would put Shooters at a Blazing (Stars) second place, even factoring in the Metal Slug series it still falls short, the Neo is the King of fighting games for good reason. The shmup realm goes to the PC Engine/Turbografx/Duo systems with games like Salamander, Spriggan, Gate of Thunder, Air Zonk, Lords of Thunder etc, etc, etc.
@SupremeJudge oh. thanks a lot, man! I was playing one the other day at an arcade and I wanted to switch from Puzzle Bobble but couldnt figure out how :P
@Bmon9468 Their sports games could have been better but there are a couple sport game gems. Windjammers, Ultimate 11 and Neo Turf Masters are 3 of my all time faves.
cartridge gaming never failed to amaze me even as dead as the originality is in most remakes or most new games produced it continues to grow and change in many ways but still neo geo is one of my top gaming consoles
"Neo Geo Playmore" never forgive them for ruining the game that marked my youth, KOF 98 is the best!, Why did a game like KOF98 in its battle system and added better graphics! Would have been a success! .Since SNK Playmore joined, have ruined the KOF, a game with excellent story, music and small details that made this game the best ever!, Until they really have been able to see the legacy that will SNK build will understand all the mistakes they made n KOF, that is why I have come to play SSF IV
I find it funny that the original Neo Geo AES games were $250 new, (now higher due to collecting), and now you can get a pack/collection game for the PS2 or Wii for $15 for either all or half the games in a series.
@popo237 There is a HUGE difference in price between a cartridge composed of 6-18 eproms ranging from 1Mbit to 64Mbit in size and a blank CD/DVD. Even to this day if you want to build a Neo Geo cart like Garou:Mark of the wolves it would cost you roughly $150 because of the parts. It's just cheaper now to buy certain games at the prices they go for now. SNK barely made any money from the home consoles and home games.
@SupremeJudge The point is that it was simply too much. And time proved that. They severely overestimated buying power and demand. It was their fault and they failed because of it.
@UFRecords01 They weren't trying to win the market. They just wanted to make something special for the consumers. The AES, NeoCD and NGPC wasn't the reason why SNK failed. The arcade market crashed which was their main source of revenue. If SNK did have say 50% of the market in home consoles or handhelds it could have probably kept them afloat.
@SupremeJudge Uh, every manufacturer tries to win the market. Niche appeal does not keep a company running; making best sellers does. The whole story of Neo Geo is proof of this. Their home console move was a financial disaster and without it, they could have survived the arcade crash like many other companies.
@popo237 Well, people see more value in the "real" thing, you know? It's the same with a painting like the Mona Lisa, you can just download and print an image of it online, but it's not the same thing as the actual original thing.
Wow they bashed people just for not wanting to pay for an over priced system. Yeah we have the 360 and PS3 with WAYYYY better graphics than the Neo Geo has, and that shit does not cost us $255 or more for the fuckin games. I mean MGS4 is literately a movie, especially that chase scene with the motorcycle? Instant classic, and it does not cost a person hundreds of dollars to experience that. SNK was just mad that people preferred cheaper consoles over a pricy bankrupt one.
You're comparing the Neo Geo which came out in 1991 to the 360 and PS3 which came out 15 years later? The reason why the hardware was so expensive was because it is actual arcade hardware. The only difference between the home system and arcade system is that the arcade system has backup ram and the home version instead used a memory card and of course the carts had different pinouts to avoid piracy.
Arcade hardware isn't cheap which of course didn't save the consumer any money sadly.
Well yeah, I mean think about it. Its year 2011 and the damn console is still pretty pricy. This is why a lot of classic Neo Geo games are on the PS2 now with the very same graphics as the NEO GEO. In the 1990s I never even heard of the NEO GEO, I knew about the SNK games because hell lets face it, I was always traveling to go see my grandmother when I was a kid and I use to see people crowded in the Arcades at every bus stop playing games by SNK.
@SupremeJudge And also, I compared them because today there isn't a single console out there that cost as much as the Neo Geo did, the consumers were idiots to think that people had that kind of money laying around. I mean most of us today grew up in those times, very few adults played games as much as kids and teens did in the 1990s unlike today mostly any college dorm has a Xbox 360 or PS3 in it. But I bet you very few had a Neo Geo back in the day. Every one had Sega Gen or Super NES.
premature sending lol, what I was saying was the first time I laid my eyes on Magician Lord and Baseball Stars I was completely in utter shock, going home and playing snes felt like I was incomplete I needed the Neo Geo,never had it as a kid, but will pick one up off of eBay as big kid now.OLD SCHOOL FTW!!!!!
Love SNK and Neo Geo. The games, at least visually, were light years ahead of other consoles and even anything that Capcom released. Look at Art of Fighting for example and compare it to Street Fighter 2 (Although for the most part I do prefer a good game of SF2 than any other fighting game, this could change though as I;m getting into Neo Geo games more and more.)
G4 actually had good programming too bad they sold out to cops , cheaters , and I am sorry that show Attack of the show is pretty lame. Just show some games , its a show for GAMERS dammit
Man! I had a really rich friend (I'm not rich...we all at one time had that one friend that had it all) that had the neo geo cartridge console back in the early 90's and I remember it being bad ass! I mustn't been a bad friend because I would go to his house just to play the neo geo ( we also had that one friend that would be used for something )!
I remember those Neo Geo machines in arcades years ago. Tried it once and never played it after. Yes, the graphics and sound were excellent, but the games were generic and forgettable.
i really do miss the old G4,ICONS and shows like these need to come back, they were truely about games the early G4 was more so.i do love SNK though,my fav company cool documentary.
Issue with a full arcade port to home is that back then how many of us can actually see the difference between an arcade and a home port to a lower quality council such as snes? It wasn't worth the $600 to get a neogeo system and $300 per game. especially when their games were so limited. SNES.
@exposed97 Gaming changes with the times and technology - but I do have to agree the cartridge era was pretty damn good! Neo Geo was the strongest hardware of that generation.
Sorry if old but Genesis had stereo sound and a different from of sysnthesis for it's FM chip. Even the PCM audio is stereo too. The only thing the Genesis couldn't do is stereo panning without using two sound channels. That's much better than what the Amiga can do :/.

This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@modewr You're comparing 2 totally different things. The cost of manufacturing a cart like the AES ones are way higher than that of a DVD/Blu-ray disc.
One thing people need to understand is that the AES games were not ports, they were arcade extensions. Arcade games aren't cheap, brand new arcade games can run $700+ each some as high as $5000.
@IvoryGecko1993 That's no problem buddy, I might want to review first since a lot of people make mistakes in their info about SNK. Almost any video about SNK with production value has a lot of mistakes.
Still have my NeoGeo with Magician Lord and Fatal Fury, the only other game we bought was King of the Monsters and we beat it within 3 hours, we returned it and got the SNES with Contra and Super Mario instead.
@Coballes19 But look at all the games we used to get before SNK was with Playmore Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown was at its best, Last Blade, World Heroes and even more great games. Always remember theres no "P" in "Shin Nihon Kikaku"
Besides, both SNK and Playmore are founded by Kawasaki and all he did was just to combine it! So SNK is Playmore and Playmore is SNK nowadays, there's no denying it...
As soon as I got a job the first thing I did was buy a Japanese Neo Geo AES. It plays ALL of the English titles and is uncensored like the arcade (unlike US AES). BEST MONEY EVER SPENT and the only system to have no region codes. I can play a game from any region and the game has a language option. BEST SYSTEM EVER INVENTED!!!!
@Pro21xx silly grasshopper, arcades have been dead for a looooong time. Unless you live in Japan, where arcades still can feed the developer's families.
@Villesanti True, but look now, even with this F@ up economy ** SOME ** players have paid up $2,000 for a new console like PS2 before it was launch and other systems.
@Villesanti I did lol. paid 600 for the system but the total came out to $800, had to get a second control and memory. as for the games I would just buy them used for 80$
It makes me cry that G4 is nothing but Cops and Cheaters and crap shows from japan rather than being a channel devoted to what it's supposed to be devoted to "Gaming/Tech and Nerd Culture". It was something different. Now it's just a bland network like everything else.
@gritnom I miss the old G4 shows like the older X-Play, Cheat!, Cinematech, Icons, Electric Playground, and others, but the newer X-play is okay, I like AOTS, and Cops. The old G4 was better though.
@ApacheMan2K I'm surprised they kept XPlay/AOTS and that it's still called G4. The new owners could have easily changed the name and dropped everything. It'd be nice if they'd sell the shows to another network if only a new Gaming/Tech channel would get made and also give the rights to that network to show E3 and ComicCon and then G4 could rename it's self and have nothing to do with Nerd Culture in any way.
the difference is, who doesnt have a NEO GEO emulator on their PC to play Fatal fury and Samurai Showdown. But who cares about having a SNES emulator.
Meta slug, King of fighters, fatal fury and samurai showdown are all great games. (I suck at Samurai Showdown but still love it)
I've been looking for ages in UK game stores for a SNK collection on PS2 or Wii I know they exist in this country but for some reason all the new sealed SNK games got taken off shelves on the 2nd week, I'm not fucking kidding here this is bullshit.
Terry Bogard, Tarma, Fio, Galford, Iroi, Ralph are my personal faves of SNK
its clear, everyone had a Megadrive/Genesis or SNES/Famicom, but everyone wanted a NEO GEO. If kids could do crime in those days, we would have stolen, robbed or killed for NEO GEO. (maybe not killed)
SNES to NEO GEO is like Spectrum/Amstrad to Amiga/Atari ST
yep! as a kid the holy grail of all consoles was the neo geo. I never even saw one until i was 21. i settles for an SNES but really wanted the neo geo. makes me wonder, if the price was more affordable, and the product more widely available, i'm sure it woulda taken a bite outta ninendo's pocket.
you can actually buy several snk collection games for the ps2 like samurai shodown anthology, fatal fury anthology and also all 7 metal slug games on 1 disc. i want that one.

@SupremeJudge: What can I say....their plan was an absolute disaster. Adoscelents and teens do not carry hundreds of dollars in their pockets.....

@modewr True, but they didn't plan to be a big part of the market. They made a lot of mistakes. Too bad they didn't make better decisions.

@SupremeJudge I might make a video response to this. SNK's Worst Mistakes (Top 5 List).
IvoryGecko1993 1 year ago 6
@IvoryGecko1993 That's no problem buddy, I might want to review first since a lot of people make mistakes in their info about SNK. Almost any video about SNK with production value has a lot of mistakes.

Still have my NeoGeo with Magician Lord and Fatal Fury, the only other game we bought was King of the Monsters and we beat it within 3 hours, we returned it and got the SNES with Contra and Super Mario instead.

@XxDerricKing95xX But SNKP is now the new developers of KOF series so GO SNKP 4EVER!!!
Coballes19 1 year ago
@Coballes19 But look at all the games we used to get before SNK was with Playmore Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown was at its best, Last Blade, World Heroes and even more great games. Always remember theres no "P" in "Shin Nihon Kikaku"
XxDerricKing95xX 1 year ago 9
@XxDerricKing95xX Still, SNKP is already doing good so far...
Besides, both SNK and Playmore are founded by Kawasaki and all he did was just to combine it! So SNK is Playmore and Playmore is SNK nowadays, there's no denying it...

NEO GEO IS FOREVER!!!!!!!!

BEST SYSTEM EVER INVENTED!!!!

demonkai76 1 year ago
The Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, turograph 16 and any other system at that time couldn't hold a candle to the Neo Geo.
I still wish i had one today just to play those awesome 2d games it had.

I remember when Ikari Warriors was released in the arcades, that game was SO popular then.
Radwar99 1 year ago
@Pro21xx As much as I love arcades, you are so wrong. What is killing arcades is lazy people who don't want to leave home to go to the arcades.
helgenx 1 year ago
@Pro21xx silly grasshopper, arcades have been dead for a looooong time. Unless you live in Japan, where arcades still can feed the developer's families.

KartKing4ever 2 years ago
Man, the neo geo home system was extremely expensive. At the time, 1994, who in the world was going to pay $600 for the system and $200 per game?
Villesanti 2 years ago 14
@Villesanti True, but look now, even with this F@ up economy ** SOME ** players have paid up $2,000 for a new console like PS2 before it was launch and other systems.
VannyARTS 11 months ago
@Villesanti Enough to keep the system supported until 2004.
xxhennersxx 11 months ago
@Villesanti I did lol. paid 600 for the system but the total came out to $800, had to get a second control and memory. as for the games I would just buy them used for 80$

It makes me cry that G4 is nothing but Cops and Cheaters and crap shows from japan rather than being a channel devoted to what it's supposed to be devoted to "Gaming/Tech and Nerd Culture". It was something different. Now it's just a bland network like everything else.
gritnom 2 years ago 53
well said!
fmdof 2 years ago
agreed i could care less for either show
lonewolffang 1 year ago
@gritnom Yeah, I miss the old X-Play, Electric Playground, Cinematech, Cheat!, I like Cops and AOTS, Xplay is just okay now, the old G4 was better.
Ausbis145josh 1 year ago
@gritnom I miss the old G4 shows like the older X-Play, Cheat!, Cinematech, Icons, Electric Playground, and others, but the newer X-play is okay, I like AOTS, and Cops. The old G4 was better though.

@gritnom its like a second spike tv, its bullshit

@gritnom THIS WAS ON G4?! O.o
egxtra 1 year ago
@egxtra Yeah, and at the time G4 was worth watching 24/7.
gritnom 1 year ago
@gritnom Indeed. Nowadays, it's Cops, Cheaters, and some random movie if you're lucky enough to come across one before the C&C cycle begins again.
Where did it all go wrong?
egxtra 1 year ago
@gritnom
I watched G4 faithfully everyday, almost non-stop when EVERY SHOW was video game related.
Why am I turning to a supposed video game/nerd tech channel to see winos and whores get busted???
2 words: cheap programming. G4 SUX
deejaytai1 11 months ago
@gritnom A Spike TV knockoff, in a nutshell.
ApacheMan2K 10 months ago
@ApacheMan2K I'm surprised they kept XPlay/AOTS and that it's still called G4. The new owners could have easily changed the name and dropped everything. It'd be nice if they'd sell the shows to another network if only a new Gaming/Tech channel would get made and also give the rights to that network to show E3 and ComicCon and then G4 could rename it's self and have nothing to do with Nerd Culture in any way.
gritnom 10 months ago
the difference is, who doesnt have a NEO GEO emulator on their PC to play Fatal fury and Samurai Showdown. But who cares about having a SNES emulator.
shinobiung 2 years ago
ah, remember the days when G4 played videos about games, and not reruns of cops, and cheaters

Terry Bogard, Tarma, Fio, Galford, Iroi, Ralph are my personal faves of SNK

the neo geo had possibly the longest life span of any console
TwighlightMist 2 years ago 4
its clear, everyone had a Megadrive/Genesis or SNES/Famicom, but everyone wanted a NEO GEO. If kids could do crime in those days, we would have stolen, robbed or killed for NEO GEO. (maybe not killed)
SNES to NEO GEO is like Spectrum/Amstrad to Amiga/Atari ST
shinobiung 2 years ago
yep! as a kid the holy grail of all consoles was the neo geo. I never even saw one until i was 21. i settles for an SNES but really wanted the neo geo. makes me wonder, if the price was more affordable, and the product more widely available, i'm sure it woulda taken a bite outta ninendo's pocket.
