I found Shawn Phillips in the early seventies on TV "The king Biscuit Flower Hour". I was hooked from that day since. This song and others including "Woman" have kept me close to his music since that time. Good rendition for someone so young appreciating this song.
I'm very flattered that you shared this video, hope she liked it alright and I just realized with your last name that I need to correct my title! Any connection with the songwriter? :o)
I just saw this comment now, two months after it was posted, so I'm sorry for the delay in response!
Wow. I don't know what to say! Nice to meet you :o) and thanks again for stopping by and your comments. I hope to someday be able to see Shawn Phillips in concert. I just found out recently in the internet that he actually did play in Berlin (and I was in the city at the time) in 2004. Bummer I didn't know about it!
My daughter (The Third, in the song) met up with Shawn in D.C. this month. He sang The Ballad of Casy Deiss and admitted to the audience that indeed he does know her whereabouts, introducing her. They are very close.
That must have been such a cool experience for the audience members to see her! The song is so timeless. The circumstances leading to him writing the song are so sad, but it seems that he (Casy) was immortalized with these lyrics and music.
I used to have shawn's records when I was a teenager growing upin Minnesota. You sing his song beautifully. I remember a song he did called song for sagitarians...do you know it?
Hey thank you, I grew up in MN too! Where are you from? I grew up in the Minneapolis suburbs. I've heard of the song before, but can't think of how it sounds. I also like his song with the super long title, it starts off..."The glow...around your face, when you hear the lightning race...".
Beautiful rendition of a very rare and special song. I grew up with Shawn Phillips. It really touches me that someone much younger was inspired by his music. And you do a lovely acapella version. Not an easy thing to do... God bless...
Thank you for the kind words! I think some music, like Shawn Phillips, it pretty timeless. It just seems more difficult nowadays for younger people to be exposed to his music. I would highly suggest those in my generation to go through your parents old albums!
My Pleasure. I think I actually like the a cappella version better than Shawn's original. His guitar, vibes, etc. take away from the emotion...and those "happy notes" at the end remove the depth for me. So---synch swimming, eh? I tried that once but kept getting my cigarette wet & the "banana hammock" Speedo that my evil twin, Raoul made me wear was most unsavory (grin). Be well.
Hey, I'm flattered :o)...by the way, I'm sorry you have an evil twin!! hahahha :o) It could have been worse though...check out this YouTube video: youtube dot com backslash watch?v=0WxCEkhGbfM

Shawn is like a brother to me, as he was to my husband Casy Deiss. The albums misspell his name, but Cas would have been amused by that.

You have a beautiful, pure voice. It would be really nice to hear you singing with a guitar or a piano... Don't stop singing :)!

LMAO...I forgot about that SNL take on Synchro...I almost did a "spit take" when I first saw it in the 80's. Thanks for the re-fresh. Be well.
