I only just found this and the whole song I was finding it difficult to believe that dear sweet Regina really sang this. I am a massive fan but when I hear her singing, it is difficult to connect her voice to a human being. It is something above and beyond.
This song is a true testament to the versatility and beauty of her voice. She always sounds incredible, but in this song her voice just has this incredible lilt and sassiness to it, as opposed to the soft sweetness of her other songs (which she pulls off just as well).
i love this song, especially when she goes " muh-muh-muh-muh"! that is sooooooo cool! i don't know of any other singer that can do that without looking totally stupid. regina, however, just looks FRICKIN' AWESOME!
I will never get over the range of her voice--not just pitch-wise, but also the control she has, the way she can manipulate tone and timbre, the vast number of styles she can adopt and yet remain completely herself.
this is actually my favourite song by her. I love her voice, you don't come across a voice like this everyday. Her music is something special for sure.
I think this song is about suicide... A woman is sitting on her porch, confused between her thoughts and reality, about to take her own life. It is like an allegory because she is referencing new york city and convinces herself that someone else is trying to take "the back of her head" or life... The ambulance comes to late however because she has already shot herself.
then she devotes about a minute of the song to scalpers and street vendors all of whom are selling things that either can't be sold or don't exist. I think that's a humorous reference to the fact that not everything being sold on the street are what the vendors say they are.
I think that in general it's about new york city. she talks about people who pretend they are more important than they are (the gym techer and the geraniums). The ambulance coming too late could be a reference to the traffic. The pandas and bears could be a reference to the central park zoo.
THIS is new york!!! I love her voice when she says that!! Thats MY back of the head..Thats M-m-m-m-m-m-m-mine...HAHAHHAHA!!! I laugh at that everytime!
AMAZING...one of her best, although I really say that about EVERY song I hear of hers! She's brilliant and edgy and charming...what a wacked-out and yet perfect combination!
OMG THAT'S SO SAD!! pavlovs daughter was definately one of her best songs. such a darker side to her. are they taking them down on her behalf? I guess if WMG has to start somewhere for taking off music off the internet, youtube is the first place to go. just not regina!!! nooooo :'(
WMG has been taking down any of their licensed content on Youtube ever since they closed their own channel in December and essentially cut all "official" ties with Youtube.
So I doubt that whatever WMG - or any of the other RIAA affiliates - takes down is not ultimately on any artist's behalf but only for the sake of their own stubborn reasoning as they try to desperately hold onto an failing business model and antiquated copyright law of last century...
Warner Music Group (WMG) filed a copyright takedown notice with Youtube, so it was taken down. I could dispute it but it likely would be rejected, even though this is fair-use. But that's WMG for ya...
Most of Regina's songs are obscure and open to interpretation. Personally I like to make up my own little stories for them, but that's not to say they're meaningless - they probably hold a special meaning for Regina. :)
"And there's a back of a truck selling crumb-free bread This is New York! Now, there's a back of a truck selling the back of a car And there's a back of a car selling roadway maps And there are roadway maps selling the back of a head Hey, how much for that back of a head, man? Hey, wait a minute Hey, wait a minute Wait a minute, that—wait a minute, that's My back of a head! Hey, you can't sell that, man, that's My back of a head Hey, hey sell it back to me!" LOVE IT!
muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-myyy that is soooooo sweet i love her and i love the way she plays with her voice she is simply and totally a sweetheart
Thank you for this - maybe you could upload a version with more pictures of her, would be more of a promotion than it is now, I think, plus a link to her album on Amazon in the sidebar
Oh wow I didn't notice. I have no idea why it's -4, as you say it's not a negative or irrelevant comment. I meant what I said. And actually, the person who uploaded this did add the link to the album, which I think is just convenient and something like honoring the singer. I mean, this is not Madonna we're talking about, let the girl earn the money of those who can afford it (and are willing to), right?
I'm fairly new to Regina Spektor's fanclub, so to speak, and I haven't heard a lot of her songs, but right now, I am absolutely in love with this one. <3
First time I hear this song. It is again a Regenius song. Does anyone know a bad song of Regina? I don't. Here a great part: And there are roadway maps selling the back of a head Hey, how much for that back of a head, man? Hey, wait a minute Hey, wait a minute Wait a minute, that—wait a minute, that's Myy back of a head Hey, you can't sell that, man, that's Myy back of a head Hey, hey sell it back to me, man, sell it back to me, hey, it's It's my, muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-myyy Oh
fuck. this is like birdland by patti smith.

One of my most favorite songs from Regina Spektor from one of her most original albums, 11:11. Amazing.
Pure genius. Her genius is portrayed in many views:
creative tune
Low to high
High to low
Unique lyrics with colorful vocabulary.
Total ReSpekt. <3
