Any skepticism I had about Harley's, particularly the Sportster range, have all been erased since I bit the bullet and bought a 2008 Nightster. Absolutely FANTASTIC motorcycle and more reliable (used daily 120-140 miles return trip) than anything else I have ever owned, including Jap, Italian and British! My only regret is not having bought a Harley sooner!

You didn´t get the point: riding Harleys is not about the numbers.

If you´re riding a japanese bike make sure it´s the new one. If you own the new GSX, your neighbours´s 3 year old CBR is sooo stoneage. It´s of course not a bad bike, but the new one is stronger, lighter, faster. You always have to ride the new one to be hip.

When riding a Harley, noone cares if its new or 20 years old. It´s just a relaxed ride - its about the groove, not about the numbers.

I just purchased my first bike ever, and it is the HD Nightster in black and orange. It is a wonderful bike to have for your first bike. However, it's so fun to ride, I may keep it longer than I first expected. It handles very well, is very responsive and turns heads everywhere. It's dark and simple & different. In terms of size, it fits me well and I'm 6 ft. / 200 lbs. / 32 in. inseam. Inseam is important...any much more than 33 or 34 for an inseam may be too long for the mid controls. :)

I had 750 Comando, nice bike, until I got creative with the wiring and decided to take out the 'unneccessary ' wires.

The Beemer was a R80/6. I never liked that bike much. But if I find a R100/RS I won't pass it up now.

Well,all the Brit bikes back then were Lucas (Lord ofDarkness electrics,and need some electrical modifications, so they would'nt be constant pains in the ass. Commando's were nice cause they were the first rubber mounts. "Isolastic", if I remember correctly is what they called the engine mounting system.  My Atlas was not rubber mounted, buthell, I was only 21 yrs old, and my body could take the abuse,lol

Congrats on your Nightster! I got an '04 XL1200R so we're cousins, tell ya what. If you ride an XL, all the rest is Fatboys. Noticed you stood up on your pegs. Partly for that reason, I like my mid-controls. Got highway pegs (for the highway or any other time I want to stretch out, got options!) Love my XL! Enjoy that Nightster, safe-like. The Nightster is one of the Harleys I would have chosen to start on if it was my first bike. Low seat height, narrow tank, not too heavy, loads of nice torque in 1st gear to allow easy take-offs etc. Don't confuse that with comfortable though:-)

@shahram21 learning to ride is very easy. i recommend going thru a course though for the simple fact that if you learn one thing that saves your life its worth it. also a course teaches you the proper way to ride so you don't start off developing bad habits that are hard to break. i went thru harley school (riders edge) its a little pricy but its the best way to learn for sure. if you cant afford it at least go through a state riders course (plus you get your license that way in many states).

@mindbender51 This IS a nightster.... ALL nightsters have the option of a two tone paint job... may it be the 100th anniversary orange/black... (1903 + 100 years = 2003 nightster) which it is NOT... This guys camera is funky, what he has is the red/black option, which is one of two stock. The other option is the silver/black. HD would then charge you anywhere from 200-1200 on different paint jobs, vynils etc.

I nearly bought an Identical Nightster from the Local dealer... the only thing that stopped me was the Fuel Injection. They are VERY difficult to modify... Even an exhaust upgrade degrades the performance. I bought a 2004 1200 Custom instead.
