  • This song brings to mind images of two people in love walking down a dirt road in a light drizzle of rain and smelling honeysuckles. The complete image of a beautiful woman.

  • 8 dislike this song. they must not speak english.

  • One of the greatest voices of all time. I'd never knew who this artist was, until I was asked to find a christmas song on him. And after listening to his music, I do recognize his voice... Remarkable!!! Mr. Benton and Jackie Wilson were some of the earlier legends (along with Sam Cooke) that structured quality black showmanship with impeccable voices for years to come, and set standards for future inspiring vocal artist to set their sights. I tip my hat off to Mr. Benton for such a splendid job.

  • romantic

  • God bless him an this song and everyone it touches this one sets the soul at ease<3

  • A #1 hit for Brook Benton on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 206th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #4 on the Top 40 charts and #2 on the Adult Contemporary charts.

  • This song gives me the vision of simpler times when rain falling on a tin top roof is the only sound you her when it's storming, and the aroma of Fried Chicken and Pinto Beans float through the house and you are with that wonderful woman that makes all your dreams seem so close to reality. Rain is sexy!

  • One of the greatest lines ever written "well it's life and you just got to play the game"

  • Very nice rendition, but it isn't the original version, is it? Betting this is a live recording or perhaps a remake by Mr. Benton. Classic song by a classy and underrated great. Anyone know the band? That's Cornell Dupree on guitar.

  • This song is beautiful. It reminds me of the days when I lived in College Park, Georgia on the rainy nights. Love it!

  • my moms song. love you momy god bless

  • love this song! i can play it over and over and not get tired of it.

  • Wow...when he hits that low note at around 0:25--lookout!!

  • Chris Young recently did a re-make of this on one of his albums. If you have even a little country in ya, I highly recomend checkin that one out as well!

  • @moparmonkey138 thats how i got here. its on the "the man i want to be" album" CY rocks. great song

  • I wish we had a "Rainy Night in Georgia" right now....it's HOT! Maybe if I play this song over and over, it might? ;)

  • @UrlsGrrl54 I have been wishing the same thing. Its just too hot.

  • although this may be a classic, DAVID RUFFIN's version is a billion times better in my opinion... much more soul, power, and emphasis in david's... check it out!!! :)

  • @XxTayWade828xX i just listened to it, i agree with you. he more soul. thanks for recommending. i love this song ever since i heard it by CY.

  • @mrcriollitas no problem sir, brook benton is a great singer in his own right, but david ruffin is a legend who was written off, and he should have more recognition and respect than what is given to him :)

  • @XxTayWade828xX I just listened to the version by David Ruffin, and though I like that version.

I feel that this version captures the atmosphere of a rainy night in ..... a lot better, I can just picture a rainy night in ..... when I hear this song.

Ps. I like the live version of Tony Joe White which stands in the list at the right side of here very much too!

  • @XxTayWade828xX: Regarding David Ruffin, no arguments on his greatness from me. I think that "My World Ended (The Moment You Left Me)" is one fhe finest soul performances in history, not just Ruffin himself, but the arrangement and playing, which are unbelieveable in their emotional impact and musicality. The cats in the Motown bands could flat-out play... they had the funk, no question.

  • Lindooo!!!

  • ANYBODY UP FOR A LONG ROAD TRIP WHILE RELAXING TO THIS SONG

  • how can anyone dislike this???

  • Takes me back, slow toe tapping, finger snapping , one can't help but remember, ah those memories of yesteryear. Thanks , played well, into where I am tonight.

  • Bellísima canción que invita a soñar; la voz del señor Benton, sin palabras, exquisita....Un tema para disfrutar, ojalá con la persona amada!!!!

  • jehovah has blessed you brook. what a beautiful voice . love you. xxxx

  • If milk and honey could talk, this is what it'd sound like. Velvet, I think of velvet.

  • Beautiful melody!

  • Without a doubt one of the most over looked artist of his time. Such a rich mellow sound. I miss those days but the music will always be with us. thanks for the post.

  • Brook Benton did so many fantastic songs; "Rainy Night in Georgia" is just about everyone's favorite. Who couldn't love this song and that voice! I cannot say enough about his voice. So full of emotion, one really does "feel" this song. Thank you for a great post.

  • How can 8 people dislike this?????

  • could listen to this over & over & over

  • This is what i call music.

  • Brook really poured his soul into this song. Thanks for the upload. RIP Brook Benton.

  • Love this recording. Saw Brook Benton and Tony Joe White do a duet of this song on the old Nashville Network a few years ago. Can you say standing ovation?

  • @rennyshelton If THAT footage is ever posted on Youtube, my prayers will be answered. What a combination that must have been. Something like god's own cream and coffee, with a spoonful of soul sugar.

  • @rennyshelton: Tony Joe White and BB? That must have been amazing... Tony Joe should have been a superstar, but it didn't happen that way...

  • what a wonderful song this is but it is very sad at the same time.

  • How can anybody not love this song!

  • Rest in peace, Cornell Dupree, the fine guitarist you hear here.

  • OKANCINAR1, THINKING OF YOU,HOPE YOU FIND WARM LOVE. IF NOT HOPE BROOKE BRINGS YOU JOY.

  • This is the one song that if I turn it up loud and just listen, I CANNOT keep from crying. His voice, the music, the story.....It's life, And we just got to play the game!

  • @boheme19 Ah, you really nailed it there !! His voice is perfect on this song and of course others. But Love this. :)

  • R.I.P. Mr Cornell Dupree, the awesome guitarist playing on this tune.

  • The guitar in this song is just so good. Cornell Dupree will be missed.

  • i like how the band plays nice and soft so we get to hear that mighty voice... would be a sin to drown him out..:)

  • @zelotalot Wow, isn't that the truth ? Awesome voice !

  • Tony Joe White originally wrote this and sung it with the pain it's supposed to have, Brook Benton made it famous, and an endless list of people re-covered it. Personally, Randy Crawford sings my favorite version 'cause of how soothing her voice is.

  • without doubt the best version, this guy knows where its at

  • Was Stuck at Ambala Railway Station nearly 3 years back for about 4 hours in heavy downpour going on throughout the night- the iPod shuffled this song at

2 05 AM and the following lines -NEON SIGNS ARE FLASHING,TAXI,CABS AND BUSES PASSING THROUGH THE NIGHT,DISTANT MOANING OF THE TRAINS SEEMS TO PLAY A SAD REFRAIN -TO THE NIGHT -literally came true as these lines pefectally visualized the scenario-the Railway Station ,the late night traffic lights and the Chandigarh -Delhi National Highway

  • Excellent~!~!~!~

  • the man with the voice!

  • thnks for posting this classic

  • This is my song..This is my life..All over cross the country, try to find warm place, trying find warm love..Ohhh.. İt's raning in night in Georgia , seems it's raining all over the world..İt's musn't stop...Untill to find endless warm love..

  • Those were good ole`times...

  • I prefer the version of Lord Tanamo...

  • Furst time rainy night in Georgia.40 years later rainy nights still make me frisky.

  • Love this song and especially the way Brook does it. His voice is rich. Georgia and rain seems to be the subject of many good songs...now and then. Trisha Yearwood's "Georgia Rain" is good too!

  • Very good song and video. Thank you!

  • Its been storming here in Georgia since yesterday... I just love it! Its so beautiful!

  • Its been storming here in georgia since yesterday... I just love it! Its so beautiful!

  • nice song and yes it rains alot here in ga

  • I agree. Sheer class. Vintage Brook Benton.

  • What's so special about rain in Georgia?

  • @C666B Nothing is special about rain in Georgia it's the song that special, you twat!

  • Great Song

  • its been here in athens i had to find a song about rain and georgia.

  • It's been raining here in Georgia for the 2nd straight day, lol! Rainy night, morning, afternoon and evening in Georgia.....

  • I love this song - when I was a child my mother used to be Brook Benton around the house. This song and The Boll Weevil song stuck out in my memories the most. Ahh..the 70's......

  • A song that is soulful; a song that flashes back some memories of worried times some years back. Great Brook Benton!

  • As a little boy growing up in North Philly this song brings back a lot of memories. I was about 8 when this song hit the airwaves. I recall my parents having company over to play pinochle while us children played upstairs. This song was always part of the festivities. Great memories....great post!!

  • Ahh - Dominantcarnivore is at ease again.

  • Cornell Dupree is such an incredible guitar player. In my experience, hardly any people (musicians included) are familiar with his playing. He is unbelievably underrated.

  • @83Abomb66: I've been a fan of Cornell Dupree for many years - I'm a player and even many of the cats don't know about him, which is a real shame. His LP "Teasin': is one of the finest and most unique fusions of R&B, blues and jazz I have ever heard... a neglected classic. And Cornell was a first-call session guy on literally 1000s of recordings up to almost the present day.

  • I remember the first time I heard this song. It was a rainy night in 1970 and I felt chills , now 40 years later I still feel those chills every time I hear it. Thanks for posting the genius of Tony Jo White sung by the great Brook Benton...as good as it gets!

  • I've listened to dozens of versons of "A Rainy NIght in Georgia" and I conclude Brook Benton OWNS this song. He succeeds in capturing the feeling/meaning of the lyrics, even a bit better than Tony Joe White, who I will always worship for writing such a beautiful and timeless song.

  • My dad used to sing this one back in the day (of course ALL dads had that bass in their voices back in the day). You couldn't be a father back then without one.

  • @doc2skate heh, you're right! I seem to recall my pop getting his renewal in the mail each year.

  • @doc2skate strange how all dads sang back then, whatever happened to change all that

  • Is there anybody including UTube that remembers Brooke singing "I 've Gotta Be Me "

I have searched and had to listen to a load of forgive me , CRAP !

if u could tell me where i could find him singing this song on UTUBE I would be so grateful !!!!

  • Oh, come on. How can even four people dislike this?

  • Cornell Dupree. History will judge him as one of the greatest electric guitarists of the twentieth century.

  • @tomthefunky: He'd be one of my picks for certain, based on songs like this, and his LP "Teasin'" from around 1974 or so. Dupree, along with Steve Cropper and a very few others, was a master of a hybrid style of lead and rhythm guitar that covered both comps and fills at the same time. You've got to comp chords, or partial chords, and do fills without stepping on the vocalist or interfering with the other instruments. It's a demanding style to do well and musically, but he was a master of it.

  • This is a wonderful recording, thanks so very much for posting this gem Markdanyells

  • What a classic. What a voice for that matter.

  • great job brook

  • How can 6 people NOT like this? This country is going to hell.

  • @fatheroflatus . I agree. Not just the country but the whole world, lol.

  • Exquisite!

  • Ahh, memories of listening to this in front of the fire with a glass of whiskey when I was going through my "dark period". Still a genius song...

  • The smoothest version ever. Loved Conway and Sam's version as much.

  • Written by Tony Joe White in 1962...it was recorded by Benton in November of 1969...by early 1970 it was # 1 on the soul charts ..and it reached # 4 in Billboard...GREAT SONG!!!

  • @BeatleJim55 i agree - great, great song for all time ...

  • Brook had the voice of milk and honey.

  • listen to the emotion in the voice, nobody does it lke brooke

  • also love Rod Stewart's rendition...

  • He is my favorite singer of Rainy Night in Georgia.

  • I was 10 years old when this song came out. I remember hearing it on my sister's radio late at night while it was raining outside. Safe and warm in my room, the memories of this song and that time are so sweet and mellow.......

  • After three years of being such a devoted boyfriend, I found out that she was just another cheater who cared nothing about anyone but herself. You had to have known this girl! She was beautiful with a perfect body to boot.

  • It was the winter of 1970 and I was on a date with Roselynn Park. This song played on the radio. It seems like yesterday. At the time I really thought that she was the best thing to ever to happen to me. Good thing that I found out what she really was. I have been married to my wife for thirty seven years and I am sure glad that Roselynn faded off into the sunset. Memories!

  • @bnylons ....What did you end up seeing in Roselynn that let you know she wasn't the one?

  • LOVE IT!

  • sounds like one of them ole black cowboys in the 40's and 50's etc

    lovely voice

  • I LOVE his voice!!! Such a beautiful song. Thanks for posting!

  • What a very peaceful but sad song by a man with a very soothing voice..just nice especially when it is raining

  • watty burnett -rainy night in portland brought me here.

  • i dig this song, jus heard it on talk702 in south africa, chilled very relaxin...

  • Great song, especially for a rainy morning in Jersey like today! Great video, too.

  • thank you for this one. One of the very best!!!!!

  • @lanieTmarshall

His best. It's sad his life/career was so short (alcohol). But....thank god for the recorded history of Brook and all others dead or alive.

    THIS IS GREAT!

  • wowowowowo..........this is my favorate song ever sang by a black man, wow this is just the best.

hope Africa one day will stand tall and proud with itself and her ppl. too much suffering, look in congo the last 5 years 6 million dead thx to the gread of some gove. i am an Eritrean /Canadian

  • Who could ever dislike this song??? Come on! This has to be one of the best songs I've heard in my life! Why isn't music like this still around! Shame my generation knows nothing of taste and telent of lyrics.

  • I remember the first time I heard this song, I was 13 and listening to a local am station on my transistor radio. It touched my heart in a way I was too young to understand. In later years it still touches my heart, perhaps more than ever having lived life and suffered the loss of one so close to my heart...

  • @franzie50 me too and I still love to go back to the day

  • Ahhllovaahdawhoowwrrld...

  • I just love this song but it brings up such memories that it breaks my heart

  • Tony Joe White is the author of this song. You might have heard of one of his others - Polk Salad Annie.

NOBODY sing it like Brook !

  • One of the top twenty songs ever written and sung this is damn near perfection!

  • Excellent!!

  • This song always makes me so homesick for my home state and my home town, Savannah. I used to listen to this song when I was in the Marine Corps and stationed far from home.

  • @Theodorej1960 best song ever

  • Brook's voice was made for this song. He delivers it with such passion!

  • @bushna2007

    YES...no one does it better!

  • denidowi, Had to look Tony Joes version up and listen to it. Love the guitar! But the vocal and overall vote is for Bentons original version.

  • This is a remake, not Brook's original

  • This hold lots of memories

  • Definately a classic! He was the only one that could ever do this song.

  • @srich49 What about its Originator, Tony Joe White?

  • I am currently in along distance romance with a lady from Georgia so this song has significance.

  • Being from Georgia; I love this song! So beautiful!

  • I believe Mr. Ruffin's version touches the soul more than this one but it's still nice

  • @TheStrongblackman Sorry I have to disagree, Brook Benton's version Is the best.

  • This man was never given the credit he deserved for his contribution to music. He paved the way for Al Green. I believe that Anthony Hamilton has some of this same flavor

  • I know "Georgia on My Mind" is the state song for this location, but I'd say this is a close second

  • Much Love !!1

  • sorry everybody but...Mr david ruffin's version had so much soul and emotion in it, it was absolutely the best version...

  • @theml2s whatever matthewshepard madonnalicious

  • ITS RAINING IN ATLANTA!!!!!!

  • Oh Lord... Cant even remember how many times i've been making love with my ex with this song on background..
