In Nan you have the perfect example of why women are seen as evil seducers. Eve who tricked Adam and got us all tossed out of paradise. She won't have an abortion but sees lying and ruining 2 other people's lives as not a sin. I see that as more immoral especially as it was wilfully premeditated. I'd send her straight to hell, no redemption.

I agree. Nan was stuck in a bad situation, she had to think about herself and her baby. She made a bad choice, but she didn't have very many options. She could have ended up in one of the Magdalene laundries. There she would have had her baby stolen from her and then a life of convent slavery and abuse.

I've read the book, there's a lot of differences from the book and the movie. Nan's not a childhood friend of benny and eve, they became friends at university. But I'm still happy to watched this movie, I really fancied jack and benny...I wish I could get a jack of my own.

They married but they stayed away from the others for a long time. In the end they finally come back, but the two of them are sort of outsiders, while Benny is happy with another boy. She hasn't forgiven Jack because she already did once before when he betrayed her with a girl from England ... he betrayed her with Nan lots of times in the book, not only once.

Sure, I understand WHY Nan did what she did, but it doesn't make it OK. She was arrogant, thinking she can use people n hurt them n everything will be OK Even n Benny were her friends. Nan was an opportunist. She was thinking only of herself & not even much at all! She should have known - like Eve said - that Simon would NEVER marry her.

As for Jack, like I said, I'm glad in the book Benny DID not take him back. What he did was immature and he needed to learn that lesson.

I totally agree. In the movie, they made both Jack and Nan way more sympathetic than they are in the book. In the book, Nan doesn't even really feel bad about what she did; and Jack is SUCH a jerk, too. The way he is in the movie, yeah I'm glad Benny forgave him eventually, but in the book, he cheats on her repeatedly, so he really didn't deserve to be forgiven. Still, the movie and book are good for different reasons. :)
