I know this was all a long time ago but to say that Mr Karnow's recollections are flawed in this instance would be a major understatement - Hawthorn & Levegh never made contact - His point about not stopping the race to avoid reimbursing spectators is ludicrous - it wasn't stopped because if it had been the roads would have been jammed with departing fans and emergency services wouldn't have been able to assist the rescue efforts - Hindsight is a wonderful thing but accuracy is even more so!
