Thats an older 411. Having a service tool is a big help troubleshooting. Ive worked on 101 401 335 411 and even 211 for many years. I cant imagine not having a tool!
@ElevatorAdjuster Agreed! Kone has gotten away from the Montgomery Miprom tool. They now use an onboard CPU interface.( LCE ) Otis however is making it even harder to interface. Even the Techs cant change a parameter on sight anymore without a remote Otis enginere enabling the write protect switch. We can only do simple things like check fault logs and do hoistway learn runs on sight! The remote engineres or REM system has to be on a active land line for any other tasks! Its flippin crazy!
Thank you for this information. This may prove invaluable for someone leaning towards a mod consisting of proprietary controllers. Now they may just think twice before making a final decision.
Yes, this particular controller is utilizing an motor generator set. I have worked with the Magnetek/Louis Allis Drives. They are great when they work.
Hey Mate, has that 411 got MG sets or is that noise from another type of elevator controller in the same machine room? I've only ever worked on ones with the Magnetek/Louis Allis drives in the DBSS box next to one you guys were looking at. Thanks John. Cheers
are you able to run it manually such as a deadman switch or something? I also have a question about having a keyed stop switch inside the elevator, what is the point of that?
You can run cars from the controller on inspection, independent, attendant and in some places on bypass. Keyed Stop Switch I have seen in federal buildings, prisons utilizing complete loss of power for security reasons.
So is it true that otis elevators are programmed to go straight to the floor you call if you hold down the door close button when you place the call? Everytime I tried it, it seems to work but it could just be a coincidence.
Thanks for posting these videos, I have always found it interesting how elevators work.
Thank you for your question. The answer is yes when a car is placed out of automatic service and onto independent by in car station key switch or other external source such as lobby security. The car will not respond to hall calls. You will have control of the car. Some cars are set up to press the desired floor button followed by pressing and holding the door closed button until the car is in motion then releasing the door close button.

Thank you for your comment.
I am sorry. I am not a fan of any proprietary controller. It has the propensity to hold the building hostage.
Generic Controllers only is my strongest and best advice. Controller companies should be able to comply without hesitation.

Thank you for your input. This controller does have a panel cover but had to be removed for demonstration purposes.
