has anybody actually analysed the fool's journey of tarot cards, which is what teargarden is loosely based on? owata represents the 'wheel of fortune' if i'm not mistaken which may explain why this song is extremely heavy on synths. it feels like a certain careless instance of spontaneous beauty in the world is supposed to be conveyed.
Happy and cute... Meh. I know he's doing his new thing, but I fell in love with his darker more sombre sound. I am a "fan" of that type of sound, not some guy everyone thinks they know and love his music because of the person.
@qwer8907 yes this was the newest song before billy dropped teargarden for the album format, aka this was the last officially released song, personally i love it, underratted, yah its happy go lucky bullshit but i think the synth works
He also helped write Imagineer by Madina Lake. He has produced three soundtracks for the movies Ransom (1996), Stigmata (1999) and Spun (2002) in which he appeared as a doctor.Corgan would also guide and collaborate with three bands in the 2000s—Breaking Benjamin (during sessions for 2004's We Are Not Alone), Taproot (for Blue-Sky Research, 2005), and Sky Saxon.Garbage vocalist Shirley Manson's debut solo album.and Scorpions' Humanity - Hour 1
Billy Corgan knows music and how to write anything. In addition to performing, Corgan has produced albums for Ric Ocasek, The Frogs, and Catherine. He shared songwriting credit on several songs on Hole's 1998 album Celebrity Skin; the title track became Corgan's second #1 modern rock hit. He also acted as a consultant for Marilyn Manson during the album Mechanical Animals.
If you we're a true pumpkins fan you would know that each one of their albums have a different sound to them.If all their songs sounded the same they would not be amazing. I think this is a great song and i am just glad he is still around and making music.. Ungrateful bastards!
Omg,, it's so....different. I prefer the heavy SP stuff with a fuckload of distortion (and emotion), but this is not bad at all. It's cute. It's gooood :)
@rbmorpheus Si muy chida. Mira q el año pasado le pase un cd d mi banda a Corgan y le encató. Pf pillate al menos el video d in the future" en mi canal para q veas q no miento :D Saludos!
ItS not that it sucks or anything like that, its far from it...it just sounds like him as a solo artist or a side project(cant recall the name) rather than the smashing pupmpkins but its just an opinion and if any disagrees thats good for them they have that right.
@gluakas666 its not that i dont appreciate it,those were the years i think the smashing pumpkins were at their best but its just an opinion...adore definitely had some great songs e.g. For martha, pug, apples+oranges, ect.,but i like their more guitar driven sound(heavier stuff i should say)
@Notso94 So you CAN"T appreciate even Adore ??!!! You haven't progressed enough for 16 years in order to understand it? Guess you'll get the Teargarden shit around 2031... It's never too late mate.
@Notso94 I agree with glaukus666. Anyone thinking smashing pumpkins died, clearly was never a Smashing Pumpkins fan to begin with . Billy is at the prime of his artistic career, and he'll definitely surprise you in the upcoming months.
@Notso94 I like living the past, the present and the future of SP. ¿So what? By the way, when I met Billy Corgan in 2010, I gave him a record of my band that has a mix of old & fresh sound and he adored it (pls. don´t miss the "in the future" video in my channel) BEST REGARDS! :)
I have fallen in love with Teargarden, just as any other Pumpkins album. How different it sounds is truly a testament to Billy and the band's craft. It's beautiful, magical, and uplifting. And I'm the kinda guy who blares Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie anywhere I drive. Maybe I'm just too open-minded.
I think it's good to try new things, come up with new material, because if Billy went back to 1995, 1993 or 1991 for that matter, then all of his songs would sound the same and he and his art would become more of a stereotype. How the hell is that better?
man this truly blows...not The Smashing Pumpkins I love Billy, I know it was a moody time for you but maybe you would do better to try to go back to 1995.
i think it's an ok song but clearly this was released because billy must have thought it sounds good even if it's just him it's his choice whether we like it or not he's just gonna keep on releasing music. Since his youth he's wanted to be somehwat new wave because he liked the cure and queen. It's his choice of what he makes he can't have angst forever. It's his choice because for him it's not a business it's an art.
What the hell happened to this guy? Is this song about unicorns, fireflies or sea lions that love to frolic in the surf? California, look at what you've done to him -- you destroyed his talent.
Are you people serious? This is NOT Smashing Pumpkins, anybody who thinks overwise have not listened to SD OR MCIS enough, there are tracks on those albums which still sound fresh as ever, but I struggle to even listen to the end of this song.
Theres your problem. I'll admit that the albums are phenomenal work, but like billy said: "Get your head out of 1995." Everyone else seems to be getting with the program. I enjoy the song. Sure, it isn't a "hummer" or "muzzle" but its a whole lot better than whats on the radio these days right?
It isn't their mere presence, so much as it is the tones that are chosen for them. They are almost like Dance sounds. Synths could be used in this song, absolutely. I just don't think he chose the right sounds, for what would have coherently fleshed out the original sound of the song.
If people don't like the song why don't they just stop bitching about it and go and listen to another band? I personally love The Smashing Pumpkins, before and after the split, the new stuff is just different but theyve always been like that. Mellon Collie was different to Siamese Dream, Adore different to Mellon Collie in the same way the TBK stuff is different to Zeitgeist. Pumpkins don't stay in one place, they move on. Something I personally wish other 90's bands that have reformed would do.
@benbeetlebum People are entitled to their opinion and have the right to voice that opinion. If you don't like what they're saying about the song, ignore them. Don't complain; you look like a sensitive idiot.

try to listen to more than one album worth of that era songs in a row it just drags on and on. They've always played it safe with the same style and it hasn't helped them, that why I'm glad that SP keep changing their styles. However if you think Billy is retreading old ground, to a certain extent that is true, but I think hes doing that and combining several eras of the Pumpkins and his career to get a different style.
I think people are a little too harsh on the entire Teargarden album, I honestly think that this is one of the lesser songs I've heard so far and like the live versions better, but I still like it. However I hear a lot of people saying ththey wish it was in the style of the old Pumpkins, which is something that aggrivates me greatly. When I listen to any AC/DC song with Brian Johnson, its alright, but I couldn't tell you what album it was off of unless it was the title track. And if I Actually
you can tell where he got his inspiration from the stones. then he added a bunch of different chord structures and a change of melody. and my freind whos the biggest pumpkins fan ever and showed me this song, said, "yeah true lol"
This song blows as much as Widow Wake My Mind. They did good with their second EP and Lightning Strikes was probably the best song out all of the songs from Teargarden. Wondering what Oceania will sound like. I agree with the person who said hopefully As Rome Burns being next.
This is a great song and anyone who says otherwise is just caught in 1995 and can't get out. That being said; I will not argue with anyone who says that it's not The Smashing Pumpkins without the original band members, but I will argue with anyone who says the new music is no good. Billy can call it The Smashing Pumpkins, Zwan, The Future Embrace, or The Billy Corgan Band; as long as the songs are good I will listen.
The only reason we are stuck in 1995 and pre zeitgeist is because billy has completely lost all songwriting ability. The only reason anyone will ever listen to this music is because they liked the Smashing Pumpkins before and want to believe they're still good. This song is so absolutely horrible I can't even believe it. Everything off teargarden sounds like im playing a video game or watching an anime with stupid lyrics like, "it's alright," "I love mother earth."
@nicholsjoshua15 yeah you're absolutely rite. they may have changed their lineup a lot... but i love all of them too. it doesn't matter if its Jeff Schroeder rather than James, Nicole rather than Ginger, Melissa or D'arcy... the different combinations work all the time. Peace. Love. Pumpkins.
@nicholsjoshua15 I'm not caught in 1995, I love even American Gothic, but I think this song is pretty bad, same as all the free Teargarden songs except probably "A song for a son". It seems that Oceania will be much better though.
Ehh...lightning strikes is still my favorite so far. Oceania seems promising. You're still my one and only favorite artist Corgan. Keep on keepin' on!
A bit mono tone. Again, the song lacks emotion. The music is nice but the lyrics and the vocals are just not quite there. I'm not sure what it is exactly...but Billy is totally missing something with the way he sings. Its almost like we get the demo version with the vocals.
@bssalazar have you ever heard of aging? Billy is no longer 25 or 30 he sang hundreds of tours and eventually your voice changes when you get older especially with a guy that sings for a living. David Bowie 20 years later couldn't hit the notes of ziggy stardust like he used to so he changed the key to sing it in because of that
@Schizima Yes. Zeitgeist was actually a great album and not bad as everyone made it out to be. Some tracks like Starz, Tarantula and That's The Way My Love Is were perfect. My favorite album will always be Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and second being Siamese Dream, but the new music is brilliant.
@Schizima even on adore, though, there were songs like once upon a time, for martha, perfect, tear, and ava adore that were cool. this current music just sucks beyond belief
This shit is like him treading the same ground he's been doing for the last decade at least, writing paper thin pointless lyrics which are even more meaningless than usual, and combining them with a heartless delivery and bad production. Melody's not great either.
@Schizima I agree man, but I did like Machina and machina II. Everything afterwards is bleh, really, nothing compared to what he did before. On machina, for instance, I think the everlasting gaze is a masterpiece, not just to jock on the hits.
@alpha771 i agree man, i've followed the pumpkins from the start till zeightzeist (spelling?) but this is so bad! it used to piss me off when ppl would say their new stuff sucks (circa melloncollie/adore/machina) but this era of "pumpkins" is so so bad i cant believe it! there is nothing good about it what so ever. lyrics/riffs/melody =shit. what the fuck has happend to one of the greatest bands ever!
