@soapqueentv This video really inspired me to do side-business, pleasy kindly mail me, coz i have questions related to the soap making process..thank u so much
I've used 'soap calc pro' designed for Iphone and Ipad. There are oils qualities on this calc. First I used free version, but the autobalancing option on pro version is great. Try this, I've found it quite usefull, you can find it on appstore.
I really like your videos. You make saponification so approachable!
However your Lye flakes looked uncontrolled falling out of the bottle.
Otto Salzer, my High School science teacher, taught us this tip for decanting powders: As you tilt the container also "roll" it so the solid pours out of the container's mouth in a smoother more predictable stream. No clumps, no overshoot!
Hey Anne-Marie, is Cold Process Soap better than regular glycerin (melt and pour) soap? Some of them says that CP soaps are better because glycerin doesn't hydrate your skin enough and essential oils from glycerin soap fades quickly, so as their color? I think that glycerin soap are better!
@TheLunaMing I started making soap when I was 16 - so you're in good company! Thank you so much for the sweet comment, it means so much to hear that I've inspired you. Happy Soaping! Anne-Marie
@SuperSuperpuppylove As I try to explain in the video when you make soap correctly there won't be any lye present. A chemical reaction happens (saponification) and that is how soap is made!
@taurus1269 Thanks for the feedback. I love the song because it's so upbeat and happy - but I definitely think it's time for a change. Where would you suggest finding music that can be used for commercial videos at an affordable price?
Really great videos! Thanks for doing them. I'm new to soap and it's nice to have something to watch. :) Love your personality! Comes out in your videos!
@AjahDawn Sorry to scare you. But I really want to make sure people take safety seriously! You are going to love making your own soap - especially now that you know how to do it without blinding yourself. :)
@happytresor Potassium Hydroxide is used for making liquid soap while Sodium Hydroxide is used for making Solid Bar Soap. They are both called lye - so that can be a little confusing. But you do need lye to make soap. And Castile is another term for Olive oil, so Castile soap is made with Olive oil. Does that answer your questions?
Love the goggles, and know you sell them, but do you sell goggles that can go over my glasses? These goggles look like they fit the eye area pretty tight, which is good. It doesn't look like they would go over glasses. What do you think?
@julietesterman No, unfortunately the goggles we sell at Bramble Berry do not fit over glasses. I would go to a hardware store to try to find something that would work over glasses.
@InkRoze Once the soap is properly made there is no lye present in the final soap. And you can't make really soap without lye - because that's the only thing that will trigger the saponification process. I explain all that in rest of the videos a little more clearly.
I love all of your soap videos, but i'm sad to see that you use palm oil since the rain forest is beeing distructed for palm plantation every day... =/
@000Petra000 We use Palm oil that is supplied by a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), an organization that supports and encourages sustainable palm oil production. But if you are looking to avoid the use of Palm completely, Lard is a good substitute for Palm. It provides similar qualities of hardness and lather. Just be sure to run your recipe through a lye calculator because the SAP values are different.
@MrDaniloko23 If you are in a well ventilated room - there is no need to wear a respirator while mixing lye. But if it makes you more comfortable - by all means do!
@mrsmcgeth Yes, melt & pour soap and cold process soap have very different properties not to mention they just look different. If you are new to soapmaking I highly recommend starting with melt & pour soap.
@soapqueentv my boyfriend and i are new soapmakers and have just bought two batches of shea butter melt and pour soap, as well as a mold tray from michael's. i have also saved a couple of individual yogurt containers to use as molds as well for little hotel sized soaps to go in gift sets. however, I can't find the melt and pour instructional video; could u give me ur link please? thanks so much!!! : )
@FloydRoseMow I would start watching my videos from the very beginning (sorry I can't give you a link in this comment). My first 12 or so videos just dealt with the basics of M&P soapmaking. After watching those you should be well on your way to becoming a soaping pro!
thank you for replying. i guess what i am trying to understand is the recipe that you made batch in total was 35.3 oz, and you used a 2lb soap mold which is translated to 32oz. How do you know 35.3 will fit a 2lb mold. Are you accounting for water evapration to know what the end result of the batch will be? and is there a basic formula to use to translate a total batch to lb soap mold. I hope i am making sense. thank you again!!!!
@redbone26twin Hi there, I don't actually give a recipe in this video. So I'm a little confused, what recipe are you referring to? If it's in a different video, it would be best to comment on that particular video. That way if anyone else has the same question, they can see the answer, too!
@redbone26twin The CP DVD mainly shows different trouble shooting techniques as well as the basics of making Cold Process soap. The easiest way to adjust your recipe is to put it through a lye calculator, there are many free ones online, in addition to the one at Bramble Berry.
@reeselopez Great question! Yes, only really expensive chemistry lab Sodium Hydroxide is more pure. So the 98% is totally fine to use for Cold Process soapmaking.
Ohh, I,m so glad you put some videos for cold process. I watched those for melt and pour and they are so instructives. I can't wait to watch this new series. Do you think we can expect some french subtitles some day? I'm sure it will be helpfull for a lot of people who doesn't understand english. Continue your good work :-)
@SavonsetTresors Thanks! so glad you are enjoying the series. We don't have any immdeiate plans for French subtitles - but that's a great idea. Thanks!
I'm so glad you've decided to make this series!!! I've been wanting to learn CP soapmaking, but have been afraid of the lye aspect. I've seen some horrible burns. Thanks so much, and can't wait for the rest!
Another tip is to use a heavy plastic container when mixing lye, I have used pyrex and it has gotten so hot that it actually broke all over the counter.
@prutledge07 Yes, it's very important to use a non-reactive heat safe container. Pyrex is usually safe for temperatures much higher than the lye water will reach - but I have heard recent complaints of Pyrex containers breaking. You have a good idea using plastic!

hi, what's the difference between potassium hydroxide & sodium hydroxide can i use any of them as an alternative to the other in making the soap?
many people use Castile to make soap or shampoo can it be replaced by Moroccan soap?

Why would people use Lye for their skin and food if it's so toxic in many ways?
It does not sound healthy.
