  • he was 30 when he died red rum has inspired me r.i.p old chap xxxx

  • RIP. Ginger McCain

  • Awwww! Bless! At least he passed a legand and in everyones hearts!

  • Rummy was buried in the morning. I had the rare privilege of standing beside Ginger as they lowered the great horse into his grave (I worked at Aintree then) Joe

  • Go and sleep with the stars Ginger as Red Rum did a while back. RIP.

  • 19 September 2011 RIP Ginger McCain. Today you went to join your wonderful Rummy and we know you are now feeding him again :)

  • @samoyedfan Bollocks

  • he is the only good thing to come out of the Grand National x

  • Weird... today is aept 2nd... lol didnt even know that... RIP

  • Simply put - Aintree will never see his like again. He jumped 150 fences there and never fell, In 1973 he beat the course record. On his second win , which was his finest race, he carried top weight. What an amazing horse! Yes, there are others who would have beaten him elsewhere but at Aintree he was the king. Never will he be forgotten, he as the horse who saved the National.

  • Do you now what Red Rum spelts backwards?Murder!!

  • just beautiful

  • best horse ever

  • I thinks that May 3rd, Rummy's bday, should be a national holiday "Red Rum Day"

    WHO'S WITH ME!!!!!

  • The inscription on his gravestone

    "Respect this place

    This hallowed ground

    A legend here

    His rest has found

    His feet would fly

    Our spirits soar

    He earned our love

    For evermore"

    How very true that is

  • Without doubt the Greatest Jump horses of all time !!! 5 runs in the National..3 wins and 2 seconds..........a record never to be beaten !!! A true legend.RIP

  • i live in aintree and i can tell you everyone here have so much respect for Red Rum and Red rum will never be forgotten aslong as the Grand National keeps going.

    R.I.P Red rum

  • Comment removed

  • @DoubleDowner this Video is not about Animal abuse its actually about the death of Red Rum who died years after stopping the Grand National get it right you are making it into another issue thats my Complaint.

    Good bye

  • Comment removed

  • @DoubleDowner You lose the issue get the lost and shut up.

  • we love RED RUM!!!!!! :P

    you will never be forgotten.

  • At least Red Rum will always be first past the post now

  • its a pitty we hadn't discovered cloning in 95

  • OMG I LOVE RED RUM, some one asked me if you could go back in time and ride a famous racehorse who would it be> i was like, Red Rum! obv XD, i was nearly crying watching this, i ahve been to red rums grave and the statue that was built of him i was crying :L dunno why XD he was a ledgend

  • red rumd aniversary!!!! RIP ...legand throught the ages that will always b in our hearts:):) <3<3

  • WTF, almost thought Red Rum 781 died..

  • Read the horse's name backwards with the space omitted and you will find out the real cause of death.

  • british people are boring this put me to sleep

  • @imjustsomenigga Well, we had mutch better horses than youve ever had!, and we are very into raceing and love our champions btw if this is sooo boring DONT WATCH IT!

  • @stardustmypony Yeah , the keyword there is possibly "had" , but thats very laughable. Also , we have a "much" better education system , and good dentists. Haha.

  • @imjustsomenigga wish we could put anyone like you asleep.

  • When did Red Rum die?

  • @Calfaeairdrie - October 18th 1995

  • I got my comment wrong I feel robbed I never saw Red Rum run ! So my memorys are West Tip

  • West Tip is the greatest I can remember in my lifetime, feel robbed that never saw this one run ! West Tips Natinal Record is second best I think not sure ? Fell at Beechers in 1985, Winner 1986, finished fourth in 1987 and 1988, second in 1989, tenth in 1990. Remember he had a huge scar on his rump after being hit by a lorry nearly died.

  • The Greatest National winner ever. Had his posters on my wall. A true HERO.

In the same vain, there was an unsung hero in the mix. His Jockey for two wins and two second's, Brian Fletcher, who also won the National on Red Aligator, plus placed on Eyecatcher the year Rummy won his Third National....Probably the best National Jockey ever.....WHAT A TEAM!!!

  • Red Rum was the best horse racer you will ever find.

  • I think Dawn Run was the greatest because of her verstility over distance and obstacles. A true athlete! And a mare at that!

  • Yes, of course, you are quite right ; Dawn Run was a wonderful mare and the likelihood is that it will be a very long time before the Champion Hurdle/Gold Cup double is achieved again, if ever. It was a tragedy that a few short months after her Gold Cup win Dawn Run was killed in a hurdle race in Paris.

  • @tarqogan

    agree with u

  • Worth also remembering that Dawn Run would never had won either the Champ hurdle or Gold Cup had the 5lb sex allowance not been introduced in 1984, edging home in both races.

  • Only two horses will still be talked about a 100 years from now, Arkle and Red Rum. I think I can confidently predict that Red Rum's Grand National record will still stand in the year 2110. There is NO way that any horse is going to win 4 Grand Nationals , which is what any horse trying to break Rummy's record will need to do. And we ALL know that is just not going to happen.

  • i love ruffian and red rum.only they will be talked about

  • i agree Ruffian was great, but remember, she was a 3yo american filly who raced on dirt tracks on the flat for about 1 year. Red Rum was on the other side of the world, starting his carreer aged 2 and retiring at 13, over fences and long distances. very, very different horses whoch cannot be compared with each other!

  • @vixitrixalina I saw him run at age fourteen. And since when do steeplechasers start at age two?

  • @thebackgroundartiste hello - sorry i meant 4, really wrong place to have a typo! silly me :')

you saw him run? you're so lucky - i was only 3 myself when he died so i never saw he was still alive :(

  • @vixitrixalina just correcting myself here - i didn't notice that i put "aged 2" instead of "aged 4" - sorry!

  • i think if it's 100 years from now you could add Dessie and Kauto Star to that list ;-)

  • he loved 2 run in the race

  • He died on my first birthday :O

  • 1.25-1.38 Brain Fletcher deserves credit too but he never gets any. Even Ginger Mccain does not praise him overly highly in his book "from red to amber "

  • R.I.P Red Rum

  • always will be best horse about never forgotten

  • rest in peace red rum.

  • red rum was good but the greatest horse that ever lived was ARKLE

  • I'd say Dessie was the greatest

  • R.I.P Red Rum!

you are a champion for life

  • He iwas THE GREATEST HORSE EVER!!!

    R.I.P Red Rum!!!!!!

    XoXoXoXoX

  • he died on my first birthday :(

  • he had the same birthday as my horse but shes 4

  • now i know when millies birthday is!!!!!

i will make a tribute video for her!!!!

    x

  • He was a legend had the heart of a lion and the people not only loved him , they were genuinly inspired by him! Without doubt he saved Aintree AND the Grand National, They were dark days and we needed a hero, and they sent RED RUM! Now tell me he isn't the greatest !!!!!

  • @DoubleDowner MY GOD U RETARD. Horse Racing isnt bloody AnimalAbuse. This video is a tribute the greatest horse (after Arkle) of all time. If you disrespect racing, you disrespect the spirit of Red Rum

  • I still have happy childhood memories of watching him on his way to training on the beach . Occasionally the stable lad would let us kids feed Rummie his favourite treat ........Polo mints .

A great horse , a great character . My dad used to organise the lottery for Sefton County Council , and get celebrities to launch them . Rummie drew the biggest crowd of all ; more than celebrities like Arthur Askey , Miss UK , Ken Dodd , more than popstars or sportsmen .

Rummie was loved by all .

  • nickcat0 you are SO lucky to have met the world's greatest ever horse!

I finally made it to Aintree this year and flung my arms around the neck of his statue. The closest I will ever get.....(and I took him a pack of Polos).

  • best horse ever, r.i.p

  • Red rum....Always in our hearts XOX RIP red rum XOX

  • Red Rum - forever loved, never forgotten

  • as someone from Liverpool, Red rum is up there with the Beatles, Steven Gerrard and John Conteh as a great local hero.

  • ye although im young and never saw them. (apart from stevey G) i think red rum is up there with the local liverpool heros , he dedicated his life to racing and loved being famous. RIP x

  • The greatest horse to ever walk the earth. I love you Red - Mx

  • just because red rum has gone,it dosent mean he's forgotten

    R.I.P rummy.

  • I'm finally going to Aintree for the Grand National next April (a lifelong ambition).

Before the race - a pilgrimage at last to my Red Rum's grave...A red rose - and a packet of Polos. (Mints forbidden by the race course. Sod that!)

  • born the same year as my mum.

died the year i was born.

we shared the same birth month...

    LEGENDS never die

    R.I.P , Rummy <3

  • couldnt be arsed to make a burial for best mate at exeter though.wankers.RIP RED RUM.LEGEND.

  • Regarding Best Mate & an Exeter memorial , unfortunately due to the one of the ramifications on the foot & mouth outbreak in 2001 ,approx, it is no longer possible to bury a horse in this way .

I dont understand the scientific aspect of it but needless to say it is because of this that the officials at Exeter were prohibited from doing this .

Another who will never be forgotten !

  • They broke the mold when Red Rum was made, bless you.

  • the greatest there ever was

  • god i miss him, even though i wasn't alive when he was

but i have got all his races so i can watch him win over and over again

  • so sad:(

  • His dam was MaRED and his sire QuoRUM. That's how he got his name. Although known as 'Rummy' by his fans, he was always called 'Red' by his stable. One of his grandparents was called Red Magic.

  • does it matter?? your don't read it backwards anyway

  • Rummy's epitaph at the winning post at Aintree reads:-

Respect this place, this hallowed ground, a legend here, his rest has found, his feet would fly, our spirits soar, he earned our love for evermore.

    That says it all...

  • I agree FullMetalChick777

  • Rummy was a great champion and he'll live for ever in the hearts of those who loved him

  • Me too, ritnyc. A journalist said to Red Rum's trainer after he died that it must have been like losing his wife. He replied that there are 25 million women in this country, but there was only, and would only ever be one Red Rum. A suitable epitaph for a beautiful, intelligent and thoroughly brilliant horse.

  • The sight of Rummy cruising to his third National win still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and brings a tear to my eye.

  • I always meant to go and see Red Rum in his retirement (I believe you could arrange to do this). I never got around to the great pleasure and when I heard he'd died I sat and sobbed my heart out. You only have to look at how regularly his fans post messages to see that he is still loved and adored. He was cheeky, gutsy and just brilliant!

  • just finished reading Ginger Mcains Autobio and it was really sad, great horse

  • All the races are on youtube.

  • The BBC can't afford to show the races!

  • how come all the race clips where cut out?

  • the legend will never end or be forgoton!! gold cup winners will come and go!! But the peoples horse will allways endure,RIP Rummy Rip Reg Green.....

  • Amen farscapone! Rummy's legend will last as long as the 'National is run..and beyond!!

  • i was 4 wen he was put down. we used to live on gingers yard and my dad looked after rummy wen he had finished his racing career nd the sash he is wearing at 59 secs is in my house. i sat on him wen i was 3 or 4 i cant remember it but we hav photos somewere. he was a great horse with amazing presence and will never be forgoten

  • But it sed "two decades have passed since he last galloped the sands" or sumfink...so he wud hav been older than 7 months wen he was put down!!

i no an ex hurdler (keep the peace) and he is seven now, was givin tranquilisers wen he was 1 to make his teeth grow so he cud be raced.

he is 7 now called charlie and he has been re-schooled but i can tell ya, he still knows how to go!! (I dont gallop him) but owr yard manager is an ex-jockey so he does!

  • no horses4lifeXx was saying that he not red rum was 7 months when he died

  • sod kauto star sod denman sod arkle sod dessie theres only one red rum

  • How can you diss those other great horses (especially charasmatic Dessie & Arkle)? They all give their very best for our entertainment & risk their lives.

    Shame on you.

  • yeah we all knoow theres only 1 red rum but these horses are good not as good but still good.

  • i was 7 months old wen he was put down =(

  • i was 12 days old when he was put down

  • Rummy - WE LOVE YOU!!!!!

  • goodbye redrum R.I.P

  • Excellent, though not continious as a "Video Film" due to transmission.

"Redrum" is once in a millenium hurdle horse.

"Redrum" is once in a millenium hurdle horse.

  • i visited this place!!!!!!!!!!!!! when i went to see McFLY

Red Rum i solute you! which i did hehe! =D

  • i read in the mail the other day..comedian Lee Mack rode the great Red Rum, the one and only horse he ever rode. Quite a claim!!!!

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

i don't want my horse to die he's just like red rum

  • did he die the day u posted this?

  • Must have had night time racing...I know Rummy liked his carrots but.....anyhow he would have still got around with the lights out - RIP Rummy.

  • yes.. i want to see red rum's national wins!!!!!!!!!

  • yeah we want rummys races on the tube they r owned by the people

  • Since I live in the States, most of the music videos I put together are of famous US horses. However, I have put Rummy on my list of 'to do' projects, and I do have complete copies of all three of his winning races to work with. I just don't have a set time on when I'll finish things up.

  • ....yeah, what's the friggin' score here? Surely they can't be 'copyright - owned' by anyone? The National is owned by the nation; and people like me want to see all the old nationals on youtube.

  • Any clips of his three National victories on here?

  • Sort of pointless since the race replays are blanked out.
